- What could go wrong on such a basic easy project? If you're buying an old vacant akiya in Japan, then chances are you'll need to do some wall repair at some point. In this episode I will do some repairs on damaged walls and paint them using a white wash technique. Projects never go the way I plan!
If you enjoy my content... then you'll know I love coffee! Coffee donations welcomed!

A special thanks to Brandon from Akiya Kominka Life for visiting and helping out for the last scene. You can check out his kominka life in Hiroshima at: / @akiyajapan

HAHA! Great video, as always. It looks pretty perfect to me, but I get how you feel about wanting things to turn out how you want them to turn out. If those unmatched lines on the shorter panel continue to bother you, maybe you could paint dark lines, making it look as though the widths of the panel designs DO match. Just a thought. Love your videos. Your wife and daughter are both so lovely.
It doesn’t have to be perfect… lol
I might add more distressing to the walls a little later and that will hide it better. I have to test it out somewhere inconspicuous first to make sure I like it.
Just binged all of the vids, did not expect the collab😂😂
Ah you recognized Brandon! It would be fun to do more collab with other Akiya people. Everyone is so far away.
enjoyed your colab with akiya kominka keep it going
Thanks! I have to visit him in Hiroshima one day now.
@@DIYJapan looking forward to it, i think i told you before im coming to japan next year, if i didnt ... i am. and you really inspire me to make content. thank you
Glad I could inspire you! I just figured you were in Japan already! Start creating now, don’t wait! ✌️
@@DIYJapan same thing i was thinking some days ago... why wait
ngl. I personally would've bought Wallpaper sheets of my fav design and call it a day. They are somewhat affordable
Two things that Japan lacks... good paint in a decent color and interesting wall paper. This country loves everything that is drab. It's too expensive to import.
Yes! another update!
Hope you enjoyed it! I’ve been slow to update these days 😭
@@DIYJapan as long as you keep doing it I am very grateful. Greeting from South Korea!
Great vid as always! Btw: god created paintings, posters and pictures, so we could hide our imperfect walls xD
So true! Lol I have many ideas for the photos I wanna use.
Poor bargain bin Nick Fury. People just can't see what he can see, despite having only one eye. Now that I've seen the entire thing, I can appreciate the thought and time you had to put into it.
Well done, bro. You always make stuff both interesting and educational. It's insane how resistant that stuff was but, in a way, I suppose that's good? Maybe it helps protect against water or mold.
Thanks again for having me over. Had a great time and it was awesome to see your place in person. Looking forward to your visit, now!
Definitely will visit, not in summer and not in winter lol 😂
Always good video editing and funny content. So cool that you’re able to do all of these projects. I am fixing up a 115 year old Victorian and love watching people fox up their houses
Thanks Julio! Watching DIY is fun lol I should do less watching and more doing myself lol 😂
Another excellent and hilarious video. I finally moved into my own akiya (video on my channel of the walk-trhough) and I so feel the "always one more thing, and more tine." I am using that same scotch tape! You can see it all over the now broken frosted glass in the kitchen I managed to touch too hard, apparently. :/
Looks like a great place! And close to the beach! Good luck on the renovations. Take your time and just enjoy the process!
your videos are so funny, truly wholesome and entertaining. I love how you are making the repairing the house by yourself with your own style. cant wait to see it finished but I never want the videos to end
Thanks 🙏 I enjoy a a lot too and kind of don’t want it to end but I do want the house to be finished at the same time lol 😂
If you flipped the whole panel the lines would have matched up, I think
Might seem that way but there are three sizes to the panel, you can see it clearly at 3:50 that there is the large panel on the left followed by small and then medium and another medium panel. The large part is almost the size of the two medium parts together. Flipped would have been worse.
Well done, Danny! A little quirky humor is much appreciated!
Thanks man!
A framed picture will make the wall perfect.
Yes! I can’t wait to hang some pictures and art!
This video was about Substrate preparation, more than anything.
Substrate prep should be an ongoing theme… it always seems the to be the biggest issue that arises.
@@DIYJapan It's the same the world over - make it stick..
Lol, fun video! Those panels are definitely from outer space. Have had the same frustrating experiences. I also tried to put a kind of tsuchikabe over the panels and it did NOT work at all.
I’m happy to hear I’m not the only one who thinks these panels are ridiculous! Trying to make tsushikabe stick these panels must have been like like trying to get oil to stick to water lol 😂
They were made just to be themselves… not to be adapted lol At least pick a better color to make them in… I’m done complaining lol 😂
Crazy work I think is hard to repair for average people unless you can to lot of renovations water leaking n pipeline is the hardest
I think anyone can learn. But most average people won’t take the time to learn and try renovations themselves.
❤ So funny😅
Thanks! 👍
😀
What does your wife think of the washed out white look bro? How about an Ocha green?
I actually clear all ideas through her before doing them. She likes it a lot. Green tea color would be pretty... I think I have to see the room once furnished and adjust from there.
I loved that cameo
It was fun to make. I need more cameos lol
I've been researching wildlife in rural Honshu. How much of a nuisance are wild boar, deer, monkeys and bears in your region? Do you go fishing? Are there dolphins and seals in the sea near you?
A huge nuisance. There is active trapping of deer, boar, monkeys and to lesser extend, bears, to reduce numbers in this region. They eat all our plants, crops and poop all over… not to mention scream blood murder in the middle of the night. Adventurous to say the least. Dolphins have been seen but no seals 🦭
@DIYJapan if I moved to rural Japan, I'd like to volunteer as a hunter to help keep people safe. Thank you for your answer.
Hunting rules are weird here. Owning a gun for hunting is next to impossible. Here people use traps. Usually big cages with some sort of bait inside. I heard they just club the deer to death... not sure how true that is...
