As with everything else, whether Record Store Days are good or bad are in the eyes of the beholder. As owner of a small record shop in northern Massachusetts, I can tell you that the flock of customers who came through were happy with the RSD offerings they found and bought. And, the RSD offerings sold quite well and I thought the retail prices were reasonable.
Some of the prices of the UK RSD vinyl were crazy, £55 for the Beat’s album? No way. It was a great idea for a while but now it seems like an excuse to jack up the prices on things you probably wouldn’t buy otherwise 🤷♀️
I just grabbed The Doors & Matt Cameron's album.. That's it for me, though I kind of wish I would've got Little Feat too. Oh well 🙂
Just a general question about Vinyl pressing quality in today’s world.I buy lots of new Vinyl and end up sending loads back due to arriving badly warped.Would you send a vinyl record back if it had a slight ripple effect when it’s spinning?Almost every vinyl record I buy seems to never be spinning completely flat.I just don’t know where to draw the line
Didn’t bother with RSD today either
I saw RSD and was not impressed at all with the choices and the pricing is just brutal.
agreed
I went to see the Cult recently in Dublin..great gig...ended up buying Love, Electric and Sonic Temple..still spinning!
I did the RSD thing this morning at one of my local record stores and got everything I wanted, actually. I'll publish the video in a day or so, but I got the Doors live album, U2 Under a Blood Red Sky remastered, Mamas and Papas at Monterey Pop '67 and a few others.
You're right RSD Black Friday was disappointing,
however I did go and took advantage of 20% off used cd's
Got five Mellencamp albums for $20 cdn. (Yea).
Hopefully Boxing Day sale will have better vynl on sale.
100% on RSD. I skipped it last year too. I just really want rock and metal releases, but nothing grabbed my attention
Hopefully we get some good rock/metaal in April \m/
Awful selections last few years
They should drop the Black Friday RSD. RSD should come once a year.
Probably my 7th or 8th year that I slept in instead. I just don't care about record store day anymore.
Sleep is good my friend.
I looked at the RSD list and thought “meh”, so gave it a miss. I loved the 1st Black Pumas album so will be checking this one out definitely. Yeah Juno is good - I buy a fair bit from them ! Cheers Frank!
I went to my local store with my friend only because he asked. This was about the 5th or 6th RSD I've ever been to and I was seriously disappointed. Nothing I had any interest in was available nor did they really have a good selection of any RSD releases. I called my friend in Detroit later in the day and he said the same. I did find a Portishead record from 1997 of all times. As always, keep up the good work, Frank!!
ignored it completely sadly
I’ve done RSD and BFRSD for the past 7 years and always walked away with 2-3 records minimum, I’ve officially bought 0 for this one. Just one random person but they have been striking out for me lately.
Worst Black Friday RSD ever! Prices were just crazy. A U2 8 track mini lp for £39/$49US/$67CAD? Even if it is red vinyl with a "free" poster, it is still just an expanded EP. And quite a few 12" singles, starting at well over £20/$25US/$34CAD. I picked up just 4 titles this year, all "oldies". The one pleasant surprise was Ultravox - Quartet: Steven Wilson remix. A double album, on clear vinyl, for £29/$37US/$50CAD. And can someone tell me who Olivia Rodrigo is? It seems everyone was after her single-sided 4 track EP. My store had just 3 copies. I've never heard of her. And its currently selling at around £80/$100US/$138CAD on ebay. Oh yeah, and being a single-sided vinyl, what do you think was on the reverse side...? Yep, you guessed it. An etching. 😡
Van Halen needs to put this stuff out. Crazy
. Great record store day. Same as ever. Easy this time.
Not much of a line at Aomeba. Got the Eric Carr CD,
Chico Hamilton - the Master
Screaming Trees - Live
Jazz Dispensary at the movies , eh , love boat music. Traded it in next day at Aomeba for two PJ Harvey and Cramps 45s on wall.
Chico is basically a Little Feat album. Trees record rocks. Love the Eric Carr. Raw n great tunes
Great day
Love record store dayf
'RoadRunner United: The Concert' 3LP coloured (Red/White/Black) triple gatefold vinyl album, limited edition, it's a pretty cool album.
Well, the RSD really did it this time. Buckcherry's Timebomb is an amazing album. Was looking forward to it. The only one I bought that day. They decided to put the radio "friendly" version of all the songs! No cussing! Im pissed
PUMAS!! my wife and I have been following a fellow here in Chicago, his name is Nathan, Graham, and he kind of rolls with that black puma style music. A soulful, bluesy rock ‘n’ roll kinda style.
Got Chet Baker, Black Jazz Complete Singles, and the Graham Parsons album….my wallet was kinda happy that RSD sucked this go around….
Nothing interested me this black friday RSD, but I did get a few new albums I ordered online, 2 of Sabaton;'s records I am missing and first time being pressed on vinyl by Generation records ECW: Hardcore music
So I won't be disappointed if my local store doesn't get something I always go in to a RSD blind.
People were coming out with piles but I only picked up the remaster of Death - 'Individual Thought Patterns'.
Hey Frank, interesting find on the VH demos. My Local record store had a great selection for RSD and they have a super system that makes it fair and fun experiences. They pass out the lists at 6a to those waiting in line then they fill out their desired titles. They collect the lists in order and assemble the orders so you just walk in and purchase starting at 8a. After they get everyone through, they open for browsing. Pretty slick. If they run out of a title…. I check around to other stores in the city.
This go round I picked up The Sweet demos and outtakes as well as Faces. I also picked up the copy of Dirty Honey’s 2nd album Cant find the Brakes. Really good album! Keep on Spinnin’
I looked around at my brick and mortar, and nothing caught my eye from RSD this year. I walked out with zero records and 15 cd's. Not sure if I'm burnt out on vinyl or if the selection this year was just that bad.
I saw nothing on the list that was worth standing in line @ 6:00 in 20 degree weather. Did go around Noon and grabbed the Bill Evans release.
That is the whole of my RSD Black Friday 2023.
Another great video Frank Black Friday nothing really got me I'll get something online I think I might still get something from like the Eric Carr CD a very disappointing one I was checking out one of the places that I buy from and they really had a bad how come so maybe I'll get something from them guys and my local place see what I can find that I like but I have a question for are you going to end up buying the Rockstar album from Dolly Parton let me know thank you and keep on spinning 😛🤘
I don't call it 'Record Store Day' no more I call it 'Online Scalpers Day' :D (if you can't get to a shop that is which not everyone can due to their life circumstances) :(
VAN HALEN I (1978)! A case where they got it right the first time round!
I picked up the Live at the Starland from Coheed and Cambria. I bought it online Saturday morning. Going to pick it up once notified being ready.
Nothing of interest for me this RSD except for the Istanbul 70 release, which got canceled.
RSD used to have some pretty good selections for my tastes. Not so much anymore. When there is something good the cost is prohibitive so why bother?
My favorite band, the drive-by truckers have a song called world of hurt as well but I don’t think it’s the same style as this one
There was no offering on the list for RSD that inspired me leave the house today. Sorry bout it 🤷♂️
Nothing at all that exciting on that list. RSD has been getting more dull and unimpressive each year, in my opinion.
Nope its not just you. The list was at best underwhelming. The Doors live album and the Bill Evans Tales would have been the only two. I can get The Doors live on there website and the Bill Evans is still available at several record stores so yea. I stayed in bed.
Picked up shotgun, Willy. I think it was worth getting out of bed early for that one. 😆
For bootleg releases check out the uk label coda records. They release legal bootlegs. Quality depends on the source but they feature lots of rock like acdc, judas, led zeppelin ect.
Haven't bothered about rsd for some years, never seems much for the metal fan. Glad you gave a shout out for juno dj records had some lps from them post is lightspeed fast.
Didn't get anything for this black Friday RSD. Nothing good.
I think they are all awful, and at 67 I am over standing in lines for a chance, there might be something I want, no thank you.
Just picked up Faces & My Morning Jacket, list was very light.
I didn't bother going out to RSD. There wasn't anything that really caught my eye.
i went to my local store and picked up the english beat, inxs, and motley crue. wanted two others but my local store did not pick them up
Well I'm not interested in record store day because I mainly collect CD's but even I did collect vinyl...still not interested.
Wow, the power of Frank Landry!!! That UNCLE SALLY record is nearly sold out on eBay!!!!! Kudo's!!!!🙏
No way! That's awesome!
Frank i thought the list was poor at most , and i also did no go out. the prices of all records is started to hit me . i get it money is the deal with everyone but i have had to cut back..Merry Christmas every early paul
Nothing for me on RSD this time. I feel about the same as you about RSD lately.
Just picked up Stoned Again by Max Boogie Overdrive and i cant get it out of my CD player. Stoner rock meets early Kiss sound. Highly recommended
Yeah. It's really, really good.
Robert Finley music is great blues, rock and soul plus he is blind
I was able to get everything I wanted from RSD the Skid row EP, Motley Crue EP, and the Post Malone diamond collection. My local record store is small and only had a few copies of most
I have seen on alot of music channels that most people are unhappy about this record store day.
Talking of Van Halen. I assume you may soon be talking about the news of possible your with DLR and SH.
That was a funny story, wasn't it? Sammy put the offer out there.... Dave said ok.... then Sammy said no way.... LOL... what gives?
@@Channel33RPM Oh! I did see the No way from Sammy. Wow.
Myke when I ordered my copy there were 31 left. Went back and looked and they were all gone. We are lucky. Keep on watching Frank because in my opinion he has never steered me wrong. I've so much from him.
Great video bro
I haven't been excited about RSD for the past few years. It was fun when it started, but now it's feasting on scraps.
I wonder there's been a changing of the generations...??? The younger folk still seem to go bananas over RSD. I'm happy to sit at home, lol.
@Channel33RPM A shift in generations would seem very plausible.
The last 2 years I have been so disappointed by RSD list
I picked up Eric Carr picture disk, Tantric, Death,.
Went out and bought Under A Blood Red Sky (U2)
Picked up three RSD jazz titles: Wes Montgomery, Jazz Dispensary comp, and Eric Dolphy. Satisfied.
I do miss getting the Jazz Dispensary release... I have a stack of them, and they are all great.
Black Friday RSD was a little disappointing, I couldn't resist picking up Prince's "Get Off" Maxi single, and Willie Nelson's "Shotgun Willie." That's about it.. nothing else really grabbed my attention. Hey, at least my wallet didn't take a huge hit 😂
Get Off is such a great track.
@@Channel33RPM Indeed. I'm debating buying the remastered album. Maybe if I find a used copy soon. Evening if so expensive these days.
Van Halen Zero - Cool 😎 ,
I'd take a copy of VH1 PROMO over that any day of the week . Nice , filthy Rich Gene Simons didn't make a dime off your purchase :) keep on robbing Gene
No money to Gene this time... but I did pay (x4) to see them last week ... :)
Thanks Frank for the recommendation of Uncle Sally. It appears it's totally sold out. I listen to some of the songs and can't wait to get the album.
There are now a few more added remaining... check it out again
There is one copy left (as of 25th nov at 3 o’clock pm) after I ordered one off eBay, it stated “last item available”. £39.51 inc p&p. The postage was steep, but I just wanted that album 😊
@@MykeWinters you got it, Myke…. it will ship out today, Saturday. I have no control over the international shipping price. That is an eBay thing. In the continental US it is only four dollars. Not sure where you live? Thanks for taking a chance with us and purchasing the record. Means a lot.
@@jdmoney1000 cheers man. Oh the postage price wasn’t a complaint really, just seemed a lot (damned eBay, lol). I’m in the UK, BUT I’m happy that I got a copy, and it’s a lovely purple vinyl as well. All the very best to you 🤘
@@jdmoney1000 did I get the last copy then?
Made it out for RSD & grabbed a Kix & Buckcherry release. The Buckcherry album was radio edited for profanity on all tracks that it applied, huge bummer. Funny that the original liner notes with printed original lyrics wasn't also redacted.
I heard about Buckcherry being censored. That sucks!
What do you think about the 80.00 Coverdale/Page double lp. For 80.00!! Wow. Japan only.
DAMN!!! Hopefully the non-Japanese version is a bit cheaper...
Great video as always…. RSD Titles were lacking and the prices make it easier to NOT go out
I've been pretty much checked out of RSD for the last 4-5 events. Just nothing that really pulls me in that direction of needing to go. Now the international lists have stuff that I really want but due to the rather stupid regional rules, I'd have to pay out the nose in order to acquire. No thanks. I'll pass. If you got stuff you liked, then I'm happy for you.
There were a couple of interesting items on the Canada RSD list... but not interesting enough for me to venture out today.
Sorry to hear about your loss, all the best from germany! ❤
Didn’t really see anything on the RSD list that interested me
I picked up the Garcia Grisman release.
love the Metallica album in the back!
Simmons didn't like the band name Van Halen so he suggested the band name "Daddy Longlegs"^^
Bad idea Gene
I can't venture out this time (due to illness), but I've watched some livestreams. The record stores didn't seem that busy (at least in my area).
Hope you feel better soon.
Horrendous selection!!! hoodies, too
Went to my local shop & originally did not see anything on the RSD list but as I kept looking into it, I picked up 3 great albums, Little Feat live (3 lp set) $50 bargain also picked up John Lee Hooker live & The Faces live from BBC so in the end I was very happy.
John Lee Hooker... man, so good!!
Hi Frank, nothing for me this time round on Black Friday reccord store day and I took a look at the Uncle Sally album on ebay. Great price at £15 but shipping is another £25 from the US to the UK, so thats me out !!. Putting the Christmas tree UP this weekend so I give the Black Pumas a listen while I'm hanging the baubles !! Have a great weekend and keep on spinnin !!
Enjoy putting the tree up! We are doing the same!
If ur intresting in Gene Simmons Producing, he also did Produce the first House of Lords Albums. 1. The self titled Album and 2. Sahara. Both really Great. James Christian - The Singer of the Band said sometimes that he prefer Demons's Down more (without Gene Simmons) and the 3rd Album of the Band.
I forgot about House of Lords. I remember they were quite hyped back in the day. I will go and check them out again. Thanks!
@@Channel33RPM Your welcome :)
Just bought Uncle sallys album. Here in the uk with delivery it was £39.14p.
Juno records i have bought alot from in the past but now i use my local record store analogue October records. They have just released their first jazz release. Amazing vinyl pressing with high quality cover and inner sleeves that was £27.99.
Record store day. For me i bought the new Gram Parsons live album.
I do love Juno... it's nearly impossible for me to find those bootlegs locally.
Just bought a phase VII pressing of “Maiden Tokyo”, Iron Maiden on blue/white marble (300 copies) off juno. Great store!
@@MykeWinterstry coda Records. A UK label that specialises in bootlegs. They have done some great metal/rock releases.
Iron maidens album "seventh son of a seventh son" was my first ever metal album, vinyl of course. Moonchild was my favourite track, I love the introduction.
@@Jason787 yeah I’ve got a couple of Coda vinyl releases and you’re right, they do some great quality metal/rock pressings. That’s a great first metal album tbh and imho the last really great Maiden album (where literally all the tracks are great) until Brave new World. My first metal album was my uncles Deep Purple Machine Head vinyl, I was 10 (1974) and was blown away by it and was a gateway album for me. Still have it in my collection. Man, just love the sensation of holding a vinyl album in my hand. I’ve just bought the last copy of Uncle Sallys album “World of Hurt, so I’m looking forward to getting that
Everyday is record store day for me!
Just a FYI for anyone buying the limited 2000 unit pressing Record Store Day version of the Buckcherry Timebomb album. Real Gone Music used the freaking wal mart censored cd to make the record. Its a fairly raunchy album so with all the censoring, it basically sounds like its constantly skipping. Not sure what to do yet.
Yea I got this one too and I was so disappointed. They should of disclaimed this on the hype sticker. I was pissed. That is a really raunchy album. The song “Porn Star” is unlistenable with all the bad words edited out. If you know Buckcherry you know you will here the “F” word.
Terrible, terrible mistake (I assume it was a mistake, anyway).
I bought the new Beatles release Now And Then (Light Blue) Vinyl Record. i ordered it on Nov 03 and it still has not shipped from Merchbar. i was wondering if you have heard anything about them?
I have heard some complaints that Merchbar is very slow to ship items.
@@Channel33RPM they emailed me back and said it was on back order and not available for shipping for 8 wks!
Yep. I sat this RSD Black Friday out also. Not much interested me. I wasn't in the mood to stand in long lines. I'm tired of the increasing prices for new records. I grew up in a time when new LP sale prices were sometimes under $3. U.S. I realize that record stores have to make money on what they sell, but prices have become ridiculous.
As a shop owner, I can tell you that’s higher prices on new records have nothing to do with us. The prices we are paying are going up, thus, we have to charge more. And, the profit margin on new records is miserably low in most cases.
@@melsrecords-bq3di Yep, that's all a given. Price determination usually starts at the source. I remember when Atlantic Records decided to increase the retail prices on it's LP records from $4.98 to $5.98. All they did was to change the first numbers in their catalog numbers from 8 to 7. Warner Bros. put the retail prices on the spines of the LP's.
A retail record store has a hard boat to row. Competition from online sources, including record companies, like Universal, selling direct to the consumer and often at lower prices than legit record stores pay.
Record stores used to be the place to get the latest and the greatest. I would cruise the record stores on Saturdays, growing up.
Now, I often get the newest releases before the record stores do.
There is a real disparity with record prices. It's funny that there are lots of new records being released in the $20.'s. Often they come out of the same record pressing plants which churn out $40.+ albums. Many of these high-dollar records have had a lot of money put into their preparation. But then, the same people and machines are pressing the records.
I got a copy of the new black pumas. I think it's really good. Great video
Hour Bach
Nope
Hey Frank, I am opposite from you. This was my first RSD ever, but i was working so i just popped into a couple of stores while passing by. They were pretty much cleaned out, though i was able to score the Plasmatics and the Blue Coupe CD in Sarasota, FL, and the Doors Live CD and the Written In Soul LP in St. Petersburg,FL at Banana Records, they had very little left. Looking to get Screaming Trees and Rilo Kiley..
I didn’t go out for RSD but the store I go to had extra stock of stuff I wanted and they put them aside for me, just have to find a weekend to go pick them up. All CDs.
The Doors live album
Limp Bizkit live album
Eric Carr - Rockology
Vinyl Friday should be a longer episode. Like 30 minutes or so.
Oh man... even I get bored of myself after 10 or 12 minutes... :)
I will do a longer one, one of these days.
Not even man. Seriously. I would like to hear just a little more about stuff. For example, that Van Halen record, I've never heard that story. I'd love to hear more about it, what you think of the songs, performances, production value. Is Simmons as big a schmaltz merchant as a producer as he is a performer?
Just more of your thoughts. I know you have them.
The Puma is like a Leopard only its fur is back. Its a beautiful animal.
Yeah, I know... just saying it's a funny sounding word.
A Puma is the same as a mountain lion which is also the same as a cougar and Florida Panther, any large cat that is melanistic can be called a Black Panther but a Puma is definitely not a leopard.
There was some records I fancied - Olivia Rodrigo’s bonus tracks and Turnstiles badbadnotgood remix EP, however I absolutely refuse to pay £28 for 3 songs (Turnstile) and £40 (Rodrigo). I think my vinyl collecting days are slowly thinning..
Today , I picked up The Doors , X & The English Beat. That Van Halen looks awesome 👌 !
I find the RSD selections kind of pricey. I was out today and found an original Pleasure Victim by Berlin for $7 US. No luck with the Heartbreakers LAMF though. That’s a tough one to find.
I picked up Collective Soul and The Flaming Lips. Hopefully they sound decent
Hi Frank: I was recovering from Thanksgiving so I did not leave the house until 3:00 pm (after the 'Canes game) to do some shopping at Lowes. I did score the cute small Kobalt tool box that I wanted. I also got some cool Christmas ornaments at another store. I was not into RSD Black Friday. I may go today since my store advised that they still have some RSD stock. I always buy other things on RSD. I will support Small Business Saturday at my local record store and other shops. Rock Always! - Heather
Uncle Sally was a local band in my area, very cool guys
Nice!!! They seem like a cool band. I am digging the record.
I'm gonna look for Uncle Sally songs/videos as soon as I'm done watching this. Thanks Frank, I always love being turned on to new music and Uncle Sally sounds like it's right up my alley.
Thanks for tuning in! Uncle Sally was new to me, but I am digging the album. \m/
@@Channel33RPM I just finished listening to the whole album on YT. It was really good, I'm surprised they didn't score a major label deal back in the 90's. Thanks again Frank!
I went and got Terry Callier's "Speak Your Peace", and tried to get Noah Kahan's "Cape Elizabeth EP" but it was sold out at both local stores. I also had my eye on the Wes Montgomery/Wynton Kelly Trio's "Maximum Swing: The Unissued 1965 Half Note Recordings" but I've been buying a lot of other vinyl recently and can't justify the price of a 3x LP right now 😅
Might also pick up Linkin Park's Lost Demos at some point.
I'm not a fan of record store day. If I want an album and it's a good price I buy it. Discogs and eBay are my favorite sites. My latest album was an original pressing of Janice Joplin "I got dem ol' kozmic blues again mama!" 🙂
