    What I often do is press the button to advance the lead and shove the lead in through the tip

    • @ClutchSituation
      @ClutchSituation  3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      This is another option! Hold down the knock and thread it through. That can also help if you are struggling with feeding lead through the chamber. But it if there is a jam, it might just snap it off at the tip of the lead sleeve.

      I do this sometimes to work around taking out an eraser near the end of its life, where it's hard to remove to access the lead chamber. It's definitely not always ideal, because you nay be dealing with very thin lead, or very long lead sticks (economy Papermate sticks are like 5 inches long sometimes) which will feel like surgery trying to insert the lead without snapping it.

      @jes4408 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same. I came here to look for "more elegant" way to do it. I can't ever get the lead to come out of the tip using the chamber method idk what i'm doing wrong

Couple things: 1) 99.999% of mechanical pencil users use modern mechanical pencils. 2) How-To videos drive clicks, and all-inclusive titles can't hurt. 3) Your sarcastic response is TOTALLY going to get me to release a video on that topic soon. This is one of the most useful vids I've ever seen. I had no idea the erasers come off most mechanical pencils! If the pencil doesn't come apart easily, I usually try shoving the lead up the tip; sometimes this has worked; sometimes, not. In my experimentations, I also discovered that pencils have different sized leads, which (obviously) makes a huge difference. I am very grateful for this demonstration, for I can't tell you how many mechanical pencils I've given up on and tossed--often broken from my efforts--into the garbage. Now I know how to refill them, I just have to figure out how to advance the lead on some of them!

    As a general rule for myself, I only have 1 lead in the clutch, and 3 in the lead chambers.
    Anymore than that, you're asking for a worst case scenario to happen.
    My worst case scenario was when I lent a friend a Classic 90's Blue Pentel Quicker Clicker, yes the one that the Channel Author is so fond of, with a bunch of lead in the chamber, and he lost it!
    I was super upset that he lost something so classical. Now I'm down to 1x Classic Blue Pentel Quicker Clicker in my collection.

    Pentel Twist-Erase XP's seem to defy all reload attempts.
    You can have lead in the chamber, but once the lead is past the clutch, nothing reloads from the chamber.
    It just sits in there like a storage compartment.
    The ONLY way I have found to reload these pencils is by removing the front cap and manually feeding the lead into the clutch from the tip.

    • @ClutchSituation
      @ClutchSituation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The trouble with 0.3 is that you are much, much, much more likely to get two to three pieces of lead jammed into a clutch. Complete disassembly and creative tool use (needles, wires, etc) are usually required.

    • @BillBroadley
      @BillBroadley 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ClutchSituation Ah, indeed. I ended up with a led floating around in the chamber above the pencil point. Turns out the cap above the eraser was stuck, and I was able to feed a new LED and get it all the way through. Seems like the 0.3mm lead isn't heavy enough to reseat when needed, so you can't store extras in the pencil. Seems like leads in the chamber can't be fed through the pencil or removed through the eraser.
