You ever shoot with zooms? Whats your philosophy when it comes to picking the right lenses for different scenarios? I've noticed you have a very consistent format and go-to for certain lot setups, and it's really neat! I want to get into videography as well.
I don’t own any zooms (yet). I am looking at the new sigma 28-45 though. I mainly shoot with my 55mm bc I just really like the look it produces. I’ve learned how to shoot battery videos with it and be where I need to in order to get good angles. With that focal length it doesn’t allow me to physically be close which I like bc I don’t want to be blocking anyone’s view. If I am in front of the crowd I tend to kneel down and shoot up towards the line, again so I’m not blocking anyone. For FE vids I prefer the down the line perspective. There's a geometry to it I like. I prefer that to shooting head on and only getting a couple bodies in the shot. That also allows me to shoot from the side so I'm not blocking anyone's view. I use an 85 or 135mm bc the compression keeps everyone the same size. With the 55 or wider the performers get too small the further away they get.
That timpani player is a unit
