Winston always walks in front on hikes, too. He always keeps an eye on where I am and if I change direction he runs back in front again. I just leave him to it 😅 Glad you enjoyed our video. Thanks for watching and commenting
I.m in the process of training my dog to go in a trailer. Git some great tips off you there. Great video . I watch you videos in your little caravan as well. Lovely dog he is
We have the same trailer for our dog - I believe it’s a DoggyRide trailer, we have the Mini as our dog is quite small. We’ve done rides of up to 40 miles with her in the trailer, but we stop and let her out for regular breaks. She also likes to run along with us, but we only let her do this on off road trails and only for about a mile or so. We’ve had the trailer since she was a puppy and she’s now nearly 4, so she is well used to it. We put a memory foam cushion in for added comfort.
Sounds like she has a great time! I’m really looking forward to taking Winston out more in it. The trailer I’ve got is a Trixie Pet Trailer. An extra cushion is a great tip 👍🏼Thanks for watching and commenting
Looking at the mud on the front of trailer, it might be worth trying a slightly longer mud guard to help protect Winston's eyes from grit getting thrown up. Regards Peter
I did try to get some long ones, but those are the longest I could fine for a mountain bike. Looking at the trailer though, the mud only seemed to hit the bottom part of it. 👍🏼 Thanks for watching and commenting
What a little trouper he is!! Great video. That trailer looks like a miniature Go Pod when it's behind the bike.😂 To perhaps make it a little more conformable for him when on the trails, have you thought about lining the floor of the trailer with a thick sponge pad to absorb someone the bumps and shocks. You can buy different sizes and thickness of sponge from places like Dunelm.
The trailer has got a removal pad inside, and I was meant to put a towel down to stop it getting dirty but I forgot 🙈but an extra pad is a great idea 👍🏼 Thanks for watching and commenting

What a terrific job of training him and getting him comfortable with the trailer. My pooch has hip dysplasia and this looks like a great way for both of us to enjoy cycling trips while out and about in the campervan. Thank you for posting.
Glad we could help. I've always enjoyed cycling with Winston and never wanted to go without him. This way, he can still come on the adventure. Wishing you and your dog a lot of happy trips together. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Lower the tire pressure of the wheels. This will greatly lessen the wiggling on a gravel road. Great video again! (On a gravel road your MTB tires might alos benefit from a lower pressure.)
pressure lower is great. Super hard is form on the road only, dangerous even on gravel. You still need to feel enough pressure when you press you thumb into the tire to feel if it is right.Being able to press it lightly in is often good enough.@@Roz.S
Yeah, tire pressure is science, not rocket science luckily :) The trick is to adjust the pressure according to the load. So, Winstonon 2 wheels under his carrier can have a lower pressure than an dult person on a narrow wheels bike. Just any pressure under super hard will make a great difference. I cannot talk about exact numbers because every tire width ans size needs another pressure. Have fun 😊@@Roz.S
Another excellent vlog. Thank you! My dog - a patterjack, is a senior too, but last year tore both her cruciate ligaments, successfully surgically repaired, but this has massively affected her mobility. I did the Monsal Trail last Autumn and hired a bike with a dog trailer. It was so bouncy in parts and the gravel kick up from the bike wheel left her covered in grit, a lot went in her eyes. It made me decide not to buy a trailer. I have instead bought a K9 kurgo back pack and think it is better for me than using the bike carrier, although 10kg of dog on my shoulders and back is hard! I have also succumbed to buying a dog pram for away days in more urban areas. We just adapt as they get older so when tiredness or lameness happens, it doesn’t stop the adventures!
I love this!! I hate having to leave my dog at home. They may get older and not be as physically able, but they still enjoy being with their human on an adventure. So happy to hear that you and your dog are still making memories together. 🩷 Thanks for watching and commenting.
We have a Bichon Frisé called Dolly who is about the same age as Winston. She hasn't quite got the same energy levels as he has though. We had a similar trailer when our two kids were small and they loved it. I refrained from making them run ahead though. LOL In the main I used it for the school run, when my daughter was in primary school. Before I bought Mega Breadvan. Unfortunately, I gave our trailer away. It could have been a good thing to use for Dolly!
Winston is a working breed so he was made to be a Duracell bunny and go all day 😅 I have seen the trailers for kids, they’re pretty much the same as the pet ones, and it would have been funny if you made your kids run ahead 😂😂 Thanks for watching and commenting
@@Roz.S We went out for a walk this morning, as it snowed a little bit over night. My sons school bus didn't turn up so I got him to do some filming for me of our walk. Dolly proved me wrong, she *was* the Duracell bunny today. Our bike trailer was big enough for two small children and even had two separate seat belts/harnesses.
Hi. To give Winston a softer ride you can lower the tyre pressure on the trailer, 20 to 30 psi would make a good stating point. I think your front mudguard is on the wrong way around.
Yeah I thought it looked funny, but I actually took it off and tried to do it the other way (longer bit down the other side) but it wouldn’t fit and then I stared at some poor instructions for a while before fitting it the way you see in the video. (I edited out all the other stuff). It still kinda does the job so I’m not that bothered (I was mainly bothered about the rear mud flap working) and they were dirt cheap. 👍🏼 Thanks for watching and commenting
Just following up with this: I went out to the shed this morning and faffed with the front mudguard and managed to get it to fit the other (correct) way. Turns out I was just being an idiot 😅
@@Roz.S no you are not being an idiot, whoever wrote the instruction is an idiot 😉 Glad to hear you got it sorted and hopefully they will do an even better job of keeping you dry now. Happy cycling 🚲 🐕
Hi Roseanna, have just watched your video of getting Winston used to his trailer and wh at a fantastic dog he is. Would like to suggest lowering the tyre pressures on his trailer to make it a less jarring tide for him.
Hi roseanna, thanks for the great vids u do. I've enjoyed every single one watching you and Winston. I was just wondering if you will be attending the caravan and camping at the nec Birmingham this year . Thanks again for taking your time in making these videos xx 😘 💕 ❤ 💗 💖 ♥
Hello. I won't be going to the caravan show this year. I went last year and there's nothing else that i really wanting to go see (plus it's always very crowded) so I'm going to miss it this year. Thanks for watching our videos. Glad you enjoy them.
Hi Roseanna, have watched a few of your vlogs now and find them all really interesting. I’m now a subscriber. Loved seeing how you trialled that with Winston, he was a great boy. Take care Russ (looking forward to whatever you post next)
Front mudguard is on the wrong way round I think. The shorter section should face forwards not backwards. The trailer looks like it's bouncing around a lot because you have the camera mounted to your bike, so the movement of the trailer looks exaggerated, as half of the movement is the bike but as the camera is fixed it looks like the bike is not bouncing around and the trailer is bouncing around excessively.
Yeah I tried to fit the front mud guard the other way but it doesn’t fit. I took it off and tried to refit it a couple of times (edited that bit out) in the end I just left it as it was. It kinda does the job and I was more bothered about the rear mud flap (and they were super cheap) Good point about the camera!! I didn’t feel that bad to me on the hike, but looked like a terrible ride for Winston 😅 Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏼
Just following up with this: I went out to the shed this morning and faffed with the front mudguard and managed to get it to fit the other (correct) way. Turns out I was just being an idiot 😅
Love Winston's trailer, is there a nice thick cushion or something in the bottom to absorb the bumping along underneath him? He adapted quickly & I think you're going to be able to get a lot of rides in again together.
Yes, there's a removable pad. I was going to put a folded up towel in as well to stop it from getting dirty, but I forgot, so had to take the pad out and wash it when we got home. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I enjoyed the ride...Winston did really well, my dog would jump out. Is it possible to lower the tyre pressure or fit balloon tyres onto the bike trailer to soften the ride? You've probably thought of this already...
Yes, I think I can lower the tyre pressure, although I've not checked. I just left the wheels as they were when I bought it. But I'll try and lower it for next time. Thanks for watching and commenting.
We have a trailer for our 13 year old dog. She prefers to run but is more than ready to hop in when asked. We have been using it for a few years and we all love it.
I bought the same trailer for my dog. Taking the wheels off I find quite easy, but on assembling I find it needs a lot of strength to fix the cross bar into position as it seems a really tight fit. Did you find this so?
I did find the cross bar a bit fiddly and tight, but managed to get it in okay after a few tries. At least it feels secure when it is together (and I know the wheels won’t fall off since I can’t get them off anyway 😅) Thanks for watching and commenting.
Ohh now I got an idea for my 9 kg Norwegian Forest cat Felix 😀I love biking ... Your bike ... maybe I'm wrong but is it possible that your front mud flap is mounted backwards ? I've mounted a few of those on my bikes , it could work just fine for you but it didn't look right ( sorry ) ☺
Yep, the front mud flap isn't right. I tried to fit it the other way but it wouldn't go fit - I had it on and off several times (edited that bit out of the video). In the end, I just left it. They were very cheap and not great and I wasn't that bothered about the front one. I was more concerned about that back one. Hope you take your cat on some adventures! 😀 Thanks for watching and commenting.

I had it on and off twice and spent some time staring at the instructions (I edited that bit out of the video) but it just didn’t seem to go the other way. Unless I was missing something obvious 😅 Anyway, I just put it on that way. They were very cheap off Amazon. Thanks for watching my video 👍🏼

Winston soon looked right at home in his ‘chariot’, he’s so quick to learn and eager to please. I guess you haven’t got space in your van to take all of this on your pod-ventures?
I plan on putting the bike on the roof next to the roof box which will have our paddleboard in, and then put the dog trailer in the back of the van, and then the caravan behind. I think all of the weights should be fine, but I need to take it to a weight bridge just in case. That's the plan anyway 😅 Thanks for watching and commenting.

I have no idea if that is true, Winston will probably run until he drops and I think what you are doing is fantastic.
Winston always walks in front on hikes, too. He always keeps an eye on where I am and if I change direction he runs back in front again. I just leave him to it 😅
Glad you enjoyed our video. Thanks for watching and commenting
I.m in the process of training my dog to go in a trailer. Git some great tips off you there. Great video . I watch you videos in your little caravan as well. Lovely dog he is
Glad to hear that you found our video helpful. Thanks for watching and best of luck with your training 👍🏼
Superstar Winston, well done! ❤❤ You are an amazing dog owner, such a wonderful job training him to the trailer.
You are so kind. Winston did a great job!
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Looking at the mud on the front of trailer, it might be worth trying a slightly longer mud guard to help protect Winston's eyes from grit getting thrown up.
Regards
Peter
I did try to get some long ones, but those are the longest I could fine for a mountain bike. Looking at the trailer though, the mud only seemed to hit the bottom part of it. 👍🏼

Absolutely brilliant I love how you put Winston first, your a top lady 🌹👍
Glad you liked it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
The trailer has got a removal pad inside, and I was meant to put a towel down to stop it getting dirty but I forgot 🙈but an extra pad is a great idea 👍🏼

Ese pequeño sigue manteniendo su energìa de la juventud, como disfruta la naturaleza. Encomiable como lo cuidas. Saludos
You could try a little less air in the trailer tyres to improve the ride.
Great idea! Thanks for the tip.

It's great to see you out and about in January. Love your dog, I only wish our schnauzer was as obedient.
We're always out. Currently in Wales and had a lovely 5-mile walk today (vlog coming soon). Winston's a great dog; he just wants to please.
Thanks for watching and commenting.

Lower the tire pressure of the wheels. This will greatly lessen the wiggling on a gravel road. Great video again! (On a gravel road your MTB tires might alos benefit from a lower pressure.)
Great tip. I’ll definitely do that next time. Thanks so much for watching and commenting
pressure lower is great. Super hard is form on the road only, dangerous even on gravel. You still need to feel enough pressure when you press you thumb into the tire to feel if it is right.Being able to press it lightly in is often good enough.@@Roz.S
@@fourbyforester Thank you. I didn’t think to adjust the tyres, I just left them at the pressure they came at.
Loving all the videos well done, great to see the bond you two have and how you understand him ! Winston is a star !
He’s loves to please and will do whatever you want him to do (as long as he knows what that is😅) Thanks for watching and commenting
LOL
In the main I used it for the school run, when my daughter was in primary school.
Thank you, that’s a great tip and I’ll be sure to do that next time. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Glad you’re enjoying our videos. Thanks so much for watching, commenting, and subscribing 🙌🏼
I didn’t feel that bad to me on the hike, but looked like a terrible ride for Winston 😅
Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏼

What no treats mum...x
He had plenty of treats. I'm the one who needs more treats 😂😂
Thanks for watching.
Hoping Winston will eventually do the same.
Thanks for watching and commenting.
At least it feels secure when it is together (and I know the wheels won’t fall off since I can’t get them off anyway 😅)

@@Roz.S You are doing great ! Have to wait for bike adventures here, having snowstorms and extreme cold ( -25-30° C ) since newyear 🥶I love watching your videos 🥰 !

@@Roz.S Handygirl 😋 nice
I think you might have put the front mud guard on your bike back to front, just a friendly comment. Keep going.
Thank you. Yes, I couldn’t get it to fit the other way. Not sure if I was doing something wrong.

That's great you've managed to sort it out. I bet it looks better now and should keep the water and mud off your feet and legs
He a gun good it's in the gene just to fetch and carry game .. A dog will tell you when something is wrong in game dogs that's isn't going to happen they are build to be outside running and fetching..
Was he heavy to pull?
Not really. I felt a bit of resistance, but not much. Mainly when I went up hill 😅
That's the plan anyway 😅
