I remember watching this back in '89 and being so disappointed. I had just finished my GCSE's and was hoping for England just to block out the rest of the day for the draw. Aim to get much needed batting practice and go to Lord's still all level. I really couldn't understand what their intent was as some of the shots could have been left alone and others played much better. Bowled out in 55 overs!! P.S Lovely to hear Alan Knott in the commentary box too!! He was Jack Russell's mentor around this time.
This was the first series I watched, I was also in my GCSE year. I remember I was still revising when the series was on. Somehow, it hooked me in, despite the woeful England bowling during this series.
I'm glad someone else feels the same way. My recollections of Derek Pringle are of him being treated with disdain by Sir Viv Richards at Old Trafford ODI in 1984 (Sir Viv's 189), Sir Viv also doing the same thing in the 1987 World cup and also Waqar and Wasim constantly knocking back his off stump in the 1992 series. This man then has the temerity of criticising the present day England side who are 100 times better than ever he was!!
John Pearce yes, he was a big tall bloke and he bowled medium, medium slow. My recollection of him was bowling his outswinger too Wide of off stump and it would swing away. Then he would straighten it or a bit towards leg and it wouldn’t swing and would go for four through mid wicket. This happened time and time again and was so depressing.
Not the first time ESPN were lax with their information. They showed highlights of England's World cup games in 1979 - yet in the caption it said 1983!!

I remember the disappointment coming in from work to discover we [England] had not batted out for the draw as should have been relatively comfortable....but as would be said so often that summer if you don't play straight to Terry Alderman he will trap you...Broad, Lamb etc...Also intersting to note the change in 30 years around LBWs primarily with the collective 'belief' in the ball tracking system. Pringle at 15 mins in to the video is given not out by umpire John Holder [rightly on that evidence of late in swing from Alderman]. I suggest that today that would have been given out by an on field umpire and the decision upheld courtesy no doubt of 'umpire's call' on a DRS review....
Look at 4.14. What I heard from this series, Border wouldn't talk to the opposition, none of the Aussies too, Border was captain grumpy etc but you wouldn't have guessed it at 4.14
Requesting you for 2matches. Eng v wi 4th test 1988 only test captained by chris cowdray. Ind v eng 2nd test 1986 which was bowler dominated.l hope you will consoder my request in your future upload
And who did Derek Pringle pay off to get himself another Test match after his performance here? He should never have been allowed within fifty feet of the England dressing room on the evidence of his showing here. He obviously knew where the dead bodies were buried...
Yes, never worked out how he got some many tests. Toothless, dreadful bowling. Could never get the outswinger right. Either, bowled it too far outside off stump or when he aimed it more at middle it wouldn’t swing so was an easy four to leg.
And so began the nightmare that took 16 long years to awaken from!

Another Brilliant Upload Keep It up
What a dreadful bowling attack England had at that point. I never understood how Derek Pringle got so many caps for England.

Also worth pointing out the error by ESPN...this test was played at Headingly, Leeds not Lords, London

Did think that the dates were wrong purely because I was on holiday during the Lords test in late June. This test was played 8-12 June 1989
Christ we were bloody awful then, Pringle was absolute piss pace!
This was some of the worst bowling by an England side on record - Australia batted for 43 minutes and scored 72 runs!!

Have I.
No crowd and why people say now that test cricket is not popular now but it was i think not popular in previous era

England bowlers spraying it everywhere in the first 5 mins of this video! Dreadful stuff. No wonder Rodney Marsh called them "pie chuckers".

Why no more uploads of crivket matches on your channel since long time?
Are the highlights from the other days of this test located somewhere on YT?
Not sure how we lost this, apart from Alderman and maybe Hughes , Australia didn’t have a great attack. Gowers dismissal was shocking
That was an awful series for England. Totally outplayed for most of it.
These players were not good players and bowlers specially england bowlers were not good
The captain, David Gower, was definitely not up to it! The England selectors made some awful decisions around that time.
