Tim, my Grandparents sang this song to the family when i was a youg child. Its been decades since ive heard it. I'm told my Great-Grandfather would stand outside the house in Coleman Texas and sing it to the sky.
Nice pelican. He did not seem to mind you taking a video of him. Maybe he is some sort of celebrity fishing bird or something. One of my favorite Cordelia's Dad collector items is a red golf tee with Cordelia's Dad written on it. You used to hand them out at shows. I have never played golf and it sits in my beer fridge for some strange reason.
with a title like this, it's clear this song is supposed to be moody but there's something about all appalachian style songs that makes me feel a little sad. really beautiful anyhow. and this is the only folk music i like a male voice in...thank you. subscribed.
I didn't know it was unusual. I mean it was unusual for me because we don't have any pelicans in western MA that I'm aware of, but this one gave the impression that this is pretty much all he does all day. Maybe he'll be there tomorrow...
Has it not been a long time you did these kind of recordings Tim? If so maybe it's time for some more. I keep coming back to them I love the feel. Cheers buddy.
Took me forever to find that tune. I had muddled through most of the tune but the d-f#-A and few eighth notes that bump back down after that, well, I'm only 'paper trained' and playing by ear is not my forte :) thanks
Do you give autographs, Tim? I'm going to buy all your albums, and next time I see you at a sing, it'd be great to get one of them signed. Also, I had no idea you were a professor! I wish I had my shit together like you; I can't think of a better thing to devote myself to.

#410 in the Sacred Harp, words by Kate Harris, tune by Ball & Drinkard

@MrBaluba53 Dziekuje!
I'M the local. And YOU'RE the one who's been able to get that close to a pelican... jealous*
it's GDgd...
Great song. You have all my admiration.
Could you write the chords? Im trying with the guitar.
Best wishes from Málaga! :)
No chords, at least as I understand it. Just the tune, with whatever else feels good.
How were you able to get that close to a pelican??
What is the cross-tuning for this one? DDAD?
That's the tuning for a dulcimer.
