I've spent days listening on repeat to every version I can find & I've decided I was right all along - yours is the best & I'll fight anyone who says otherwise. Hope you can come down to Australia one day
@@hustonwestbanjo @crixtail8 is right! this is hands down the best version. sung right from the heart. 1. are you okay brother, I can tell you're hurtin out there 2. on a lighter note - hook a brotha up with some tunings and maybe a tab
I've listened to this probably 12 times tonight. It makes me want a banjo instead of a mandolin. This is probably also the best vocal rendition I've heard. Damn dude.
You sir, are amazing, my drive home was 10 times less difficult than usual after hearing this. I actually stopped to see what the song was, that's how good it is. Keep up the good work man!
Lyrics for anyone wanting to sing along with his amazing version of this song... Over yonder in the graveyard Where the wild, wild flowers grow There they laid my own true lover She's gone from me, forever more Fairer than the sweetest flower Restless as the wildest way Born with a love deep as a ocean This was the girl that I did win I left her there back in the mountain To see the world riches to gain Oh when I returned no earthy treasure Could ease this heart so filled with pain There so high upon the mountain Beneath that little mound of clay The girl that I returned to marry So still among the flowers did lay I'll go away and I will wander Lay aside my earthy gain All I am undone in riches Undone in sorrow I'll remain Undone in sorrow I'll remain "Undone In Sorrow"
I've listened to this literally every day since i found it s couple months back. I love the original Ola Belle version but man... this is even better, honestly. Just wanted to thank you and tell you that you're a beautiful human.
Very true to the original with a bit more up beat tempo and banjo articulation. Nice job on the vocals too. Ola Belle played it slower and more sorrowful. You did a fine job and I have to agree with others that it is my favorite rendition also. She tried to teach me claw hammer style once but I was surprised that I found it difficult. That was around 1970 in her living room. I might have tried harder but I was learning guitar and was into Rock & Roll. She got me started by teaching me my first 3 chords - G, C, & D. 😂
Hello fellow West, we are related man. Our West family line descends from British royalty, and the West's founded the first plantation in America, the West and Sherely Hundred or Shirley Plantation. Great banjo playing, I have started learning a few weeks ago.
I found this video a month or so ago and I loved it immediately- always coming back to it haha. I already listened to Ola Belle Reed's songs and this is among my favorites but this cover gave me an itch. Today I scratched that itch- I bought my first banjo! I have already tried to have a crack at this song and all I can say is that it makes me appreciate your playing even more- it's a whole lot different to the Mandolin I play! I hope one day with enough practice I can play this song- you're a great inspiration and great musician!! Thankyou Huston
hell yeah!! I’m so happy this song had such a wonderful impact on you! That’s how I felt when I heard Riley Baugus’s version and I had to learn it! Pick on my friend!
@@hustonwestbanjo Oh wow, I'll have to check him out! Since I commented, I've managed to learn Little Sadie, working on Undone in Sorrow now- Many thanks to you once again, you pick on too friend!
Dude I know you have quite a few comments about your amazing singing but truly it’s both beautiful and haunting how well your voice fits this song keep it up dude
Is this standard banjo tuning or an alternate tuning? I'm new to banjo but looking for some class hammer songs to learn.. This was beautiful!!! Would love to be able to play it
Mate you seem to be getting a bit of love from Australia, well here is another aussie thats blown away by this gonna go try learn it on my banjo now!! Loved your other videos just got yourself a sub
I can see pain in his face. He thinks of someone when he sings this and I can feel it
"no earthly treasure, could ease this heart, so full of pain"
Hands down, this is the best version of this song.

Thenk you. The tab and tuning is from googling the Riley Baugus version of this song.
Mate, your voice and plucking style, it just goes hand in hand.. keep up the good work!
Really lovely! I love the connection between Appalachian folk and traditional Irish songs. It reminds me of songs I’d hear in Oranmore as a child
Love it! Jealous of how effortlessly you drop thumb! My brain always turns off for about a second or two whenever I try.
This is one of the best renditions of this song I've seen, your voice compliments the banjo well and I like your percussive fingerpicking style
Thank you!!
It really is. It's distinctly original ... Considering it's a cover 🤭. Seriously tho!
very much agree sounds perfect ❤️
This needs to be added to Spotify. ASAP. It’s the best version I’ve heard.
Thank you!
@@hustonwestbanjo NP man gotta give credit where it’s due.
Great version . Up there with Riley’s version .

I have never cried to a song the first time I've heard it. This changed that. You touched my soul, man. I feel like I'm less alone now.

Lyrics for anyone wanting to sing along with his amazing version of this song...
Over yonder in the graveyard
Where the wild, wild flowers grow
There they laid my own true lover
She's gone from me, forever more
Fairer than the sweetest flower
Restless as the wildest way
Born with a love deep as a ocean
This was the girl that I did win
I left her there back in the mountain
To see the world riches to gain
Oh when I returned no earthy treasure
Could ease this heart so filled with pain
There so high upon the mountain
Beneath that little mound of clay
The girl that I returned to marry
So still among the flowers did lay
I'll go away and I will wander
Lay aside my earthy gain
All I am undone in riches
Undone in sorrow I'll remain
Undone in sorrow I'll remain
"Undone In Sorrow"
I wouldn't doubt i might've messed up a few words 😅
