@CB-mp8ym That's part of why I think the price of these is very vulnerable to collapse. It's not just like a single card where the price is purely a reflection of its tangible rarity/utility, this sealed stuff is all based on POTENTIAL rarity/utility, and that potential value goes way down when somebody starts highlighting just how saturated the market is with ZERO POTENTIAL fakes.

Fun fact: Wyvern was a 90s card game that for awhile was printed in the same factory as MTG Fallen Empires. There are misprints out there with Wyvern backs and MTG fronts. Which just also means that this could actually be a vintage scam, with someone potentially having reboxed it almost 30 years ago.
Would that also make it at all possible this happened in the factory? I highly doubt it as, like wubby there was a nick on the pack and the cards didn't even looking new. But that info makes it a bit more interesting

I never played any card games as a child, but seeing wubby get so excited over MTG cards makes me come back every time.
It really sucks to see, but it is clear how much love and passion that you have for this game and its history. I only got into Magic 3 months ago because of my friends. Watching these videos and subsequently your streams after has given me a lot more appreciation and care for the cards themselves and not just the game. Thank you for sharing your passion with us. It fucking sucks that people take advantage of that love for the game, but I am really thankful that you are doing your best to share it with us anyway.

Watching Wubby is what got me into MTG. I just bought my first pre-con commander deck like 2 weeks ago. I have binged every WMM video I was like man he must've flew through this opening, it's only 13 mins long" When he was getting ready to open the pack and there was only 5 mins of video left i knew what was going to happen and I was crushed for him. IMO if a reseller isn't selling with insurance they are just as guilty as the person who repacked the deck in the first place.

If it had been a later edition than Unlimited it could maybe be possible it was a factory error. I remember Wyvern. I played MTG at the time it came out. It was released in 1995 though, well after Unlimited.
There are fallen empires cards with a wyvern backside. They were found in original magic The Gathering fallen empires boosters.
I don't know why wubby started to be recommended to me a few months ago for his cracking of boosters. I hate this sort of content, but wubby [and editor] makes it very entertaining. Not only that but in the first video, I saw him do this he was very honest with the privilege he has to crack these collectibles and we are along for the ride because it is such a rare experience. Keep'em coming.

It really sucks that the fun, expensive boxes are so old that there is such a large risk of getting scammed. Old Magic cards look so cool and it’s so fun watching you open them. Open whatever you want big guy, your audience will love it

My friend in high school actually got a Magic Card with the Wyvern card back. It was so crazy back in the 90s to see that.

I actually remember a guy named Ted Thorogood opening a revised starter at our local lgs, and it was a starter deck of Wyvern. No one at the store had a clue what it was, until the next year when it came out. I traded a Hive for it, and still have the cards to this day. Totally worthless, but I saw it happen. The scammers probably thought they could slide it by having known it had happened, but they picked the wrong set.

I'm pretty sure this wasn't a mistake either. Unlimited released in 1993, while Wyvern launched in 1995. The MTG misprints with Wyvern where found in Fallen Empires which released in 1994, when I assume both sets were printed.

I played MTG from the start. I opened packs upon packs upon packs of every set up to alliances. Your excitement is the same that I felt Every time I bought a box. I do have the power 9 and all of the other cards on your wishlist. I hope that someday you get yours as well. Now, after watching you get scammed twice I'd like to say that you have iron balls. I know it doesn't ease the pain of this happening...but my older brother traded a beta lotus and a mox ruby for a case of Wyvern back in the 90s. So this sucks, but not as much as that lol.
I love classic Magic and spent my first year of college in the Unlimited/Revised era. Had all the sets up to Fallen Empires, but this is exactly why I'll never try to rebuild my old collection. Scams and fake cards are just way to prevalent now.
I wonder what percentage of "unopened" ABU packs out there are searched/repacked. I bet there's plenty of it sitting in collections without people even knowing.

Man, I really want you to keep going with these Unlimited packs. I know it puts you out for a bit until you get your money back, but it's a win/win. Either you get what you pay for and it's a great video or you expose a scam and the paper trail can be traced back to its origin.

Wyvern !!! cool game.
Just a bit more about what the cards were (I'm a collector of this game). These were Wyvern Premier Limited Edition cards, that look like they had the original factory seal on them (hard to tell as the video was not in focus). These actually are worth a fair bit more than the subsequent print run (Wyvern Limited Edition). It is believed that the cards with Wyvern Backs and mtg Fallen Empires fronts are only found in the starter decks like the one you opened. It also had the super-rare Gold and Silver redeemable dragon cards that are worth quite a bit. Would have made a really nice twist in the video had you pulled any of these in it. If you happened to hit a batch of the Fallen Empire front cards it's plausible this might have been worth more than an actual mtg Unlimited Starter deck contents.
Wubby I know it sucks opening these scam packs, but I think you're doing the community a huge favor showing how easily manipulated they are by scammers. Even if you open 100 boxes that are scams, it's going to get traction about how fucked up it is, and I salute you for it.

Great video!!!It sucks that you had to go through this not once, but twice! That being said, I think this is really good for showing people just how volatile sealed vintage product is, and how careful you have to be.
My only real claim to fame, was I actually played Magic in 94 when buying packs with Dual Lands was ordinary. I routinely played a deck of 4 of each Dual Land and just played anything in the deck I wanted as it was able to cast anything. I got most of my Dual Lands as trades for more or less mundane creatures and spells. But the game collapsed among friends in 97. It hasn't been the same game since.
Do you store your high value cards in a vault? If not, where do you store them, and can you leave the nearest window unlocked?
