Thanks for the video! I really enjoyed watching it! I have been to the Faroe Islands and I must say that it is one of the most amazing places on Earth! I'm a genuine world trekker, been to over 70 countries, but The Faroes are quite unique! I've spent only 5 days on the islands, but hopefully I'll be back, in summertime, when I'll be able to visit remote islands like Fugloy and Svínoy.
Beautiful breathtaking vistas and lovely haunting music - this is a place I would love to visit and it is ideal for the location I am looking for to write about in a story. You mention Swine Island but what does Fugloy mean (or did I miss it - I'd be grateful if you could leave your captions up for twice as long)? by the way, can you see the Aurora Borealis from the Faroe Islands?
Beautiful and rugged. There is a sense of peace, it seems to me in living in the Faroes. I am a Dane and have always wanted to travel there. What are the locals feelings about Danes?
thank you,but i just looked on google,,,whetever becouse i wish go there for some holidays,,,is it a expencive country or enough cheap? i mean, how much for sleep and eat? are aexpencive train or bus?...thank you again...and,,,when is the month more warm, with no rain i mean...
Swine Island is called that due to swine being kept there in the past. There are currently no swine on the Faroe Islands (not that I'm aware of anyway). Fugloy means Bird Island. You can see the Aurora Borealis there, though not very often due to foggy and overcast weather (even at winter). I've only seen it about 3 times in the 19 years I've lived there (live in Denmark now). However, I'm sure you can see it more often than that if you spend more time outside than I do. :)
Sounds great! :) There is one particular photo of the Aurora over Tórshavn (the capital) that I like a lot, but sadly the website doesn't seem to be working anymore. However, if you write Faroe Islands Aurora Borealis in google and look at the picture page, then it should be the first picture you see. :)
I am writing a story and I want to use the Faroe Islands as a setting for some of the climactic scenes. From what you tell me, the location and environment are just what I am looking for. My principal character has always had an ambition to follow in the footsteps of St Brendan to find the Paradise Islands and he also longs to witness the majesty of the Aurora. I have seen the lights once from Norway. Fugloy would be ideal for my character to have a similar experience.
if you think the Faroe Islands might be a disconcerting for a city dweller, you should look at some videos of Svalbard... I am used to North England moorland but even I would find Svalbard bleak. The Faroe Islands, however, are top of my list of places I most want to visit. This is the place where they should have filmed Lord of the Rings.
It's beautiful. The soundtrack and the video. The place looks very remote. How do the Kirkja and Svinoy people survive? It's got a tranquil quality, but also a sense of loneliness. I'm sure its not like that in the summer time. As you can imagine, being a city dweller, this is startling and a bit disconcerting. Ithink you have to be mentally tough to live in that place. Thanks for the upload.
^_^ Hvordan går du egentlig i skole?
Take care.
"slaughtering whales to eat" is not a joke, it gets distributed to people that were involed in the hunt. And we are not a tribe, we are a simple community just trying to get along.
Dear Aneri, I guess yes!! But I work for a better planet, try to do my part and I'm very hard on the Brazilians regarding the preservation, consumption and waste disposal ... Do not just try to make a better planet for our children, we need to educate children to respect the planet ... Traditions need to be changed with the passage of time. Greetings and thanks for replying!
An awesome poem by Paul Watson: If You Go Down to The Fjord Today If you go down to the beach today, You're sure of a big surprise. If you go down to the fjord today, You'd better go in disguise. For every Faroese thug that ever there was Will gather there for certain because, Today's the day these psychos have their picnic. Killing time for Faroese thugs; The killers are having a bloody time today. Watch us catch them unawares, Watch them murder on this sad, sad, day. Let us spread the word about. How they love to kill, they love to shout, They have no heart, thus no cares. Excitingly spilling blood into the sea Their pants get very wet you see. And so they wander off to the pub, Because they're perverted little killer thugs.
Faroe Islands are very beautiful! but... The cruel slaughter of complete whale families is barbaric!!! Tradition is no argument for atrocity and greed!!!
Very tranquil and i imagine a holiday there would clear the head wonderfully. The music is so appropriate
I did that trip at the end of a wonderful 2-week tour of the northern islands - it was the absolute highlight!!
Thank you for reminding me of it.

you absolutely can't write about the Faroes without having experienced them - you can't make them up!!
@staling2010 accually there are 9-13 people in kirkja in winter time

The Faroe Islands in the North Atlantic Ocean, between Iceland and Norway, and north of Scotland

I didn't even know this place existed

May i then ask how much you have researched about our *pilot whale slaughtering*?... because to me it looks like your only source is Paul Watson.
