SONY ZV-E1 Overheating Test | 4K 100 fps + 1080p 200 fps

- I am testing the overheating issue after the update from SONY. The ZV-E1 is a small bodied camera, with great power, so it would surprice me if it didnt get warm.
I am testing the camera in 4K indoors and outdoors, and as a bonus I am testing it in HD 200fps as well. Spoiler alert, I was happy with the results.
If anyone asks me if I would recommend this camera, I would say YES, if you have the money, GO FOR IT! The SONY ZV-E1 is today the greatest camera of them all, almost😅 Lets just say, I love it!
If the test would be different if I shot 120fps instead of 100fps or 240fps instead of 200fps I dont know, but let me know, and I’ll test that as well

I did a 20 minute recording of 120 FPS in HLG. In Australia, filmed in the Sun, the temperature was 30 degrees celsius. Was able to do this on a Nikon Z9. But I wonder how far the ZV-E1 would go?
So do I! Where I live in Norway the temp rarely reach 30°, so I dont know if I could test it here, but if I’m going on a travel again soon I’ll try for sure👍 Hey, thanks for watching my video!

More importantly for me is, how is the overheating if you use it for the whole day while traveling for example? Doing short bursts with all fps.
I havent had any issues with it so far.
And I was using it in hot envirement last week filming family stuff all day(34°C)

Heating wouldn't be problem in cold countries.
Try testing Sony zv e1 in cold conditions to see how long it can go on.

Virke jo t ver veldig bra kamera i så liten form. Perfekt for meg så vil ha lettast mulig sekk på tur men allikevel kunne ha med 2 kamera 👍

Seems like a great camera. I don’t think it would perform in my region very well, as we are in 100°F as I write this comment
The camera is great, but I dont know in a warm envirement as you live in. But, I would be happy if it lasted 5 minutes in 4K 120p as well. I never shoot for long when Im shooting in those framerates anyway. 🔥

You were recording 4k25 not 4k100 when outdoor, at least this is on the screen at 2:05
Even for short recordings in 100fps, you can’t have too many of them and at some point you will need to take a break and cool the camera… or risk to miss the shot😢
Imo, that 100fps is just a bonus to all other great features for quite narrow group of users.
It was S&Q mode 25/100fps, same as I had inside erlier. I waited until the camera was cold between the shots. If I am shooting a b-roll, I dont think it will be any problems for me.
The camera is perfect imo. It has so many good thing that it doesnt matter for me if it overheat after that long periode of time.
In your clips you say you test 100fps but it says 25p in the monitor?
It will always say 25 in the monitor, because thats my «editing fps».
I set it to shoot in 100fps, but it shows 25fps.

Get the 256GB Sabrent V60 card. It works with H265 10-bit 4:2:2 (XAVC HS) with the ZV-E10 perfectly.

why 100fps and not 120fps?
Oh, thats because Im shooting in PAL, not NTSC, and its only supporting 100fps. I am shooting in 25, 50, 100 and 200 fps. I can switch to NTSC, but all the lights will start to flicker in the videos because of the electrics.
After 90 minutes of continuous 4k24 H.265 10-bit 4:2:2 recording on a V60 SD card, my ZV-E1's battery expires.
I will test how it performs with 120p too. However, 120p tuned to 25p is a 5-time stretch of the footage, so every minute recorded becomes 5 minutes.
13 minutes at 120p means 65 minutes in 24p. That's quite a long sequence without a single cut. xD
True! I have also experiensed the battery expires before it overheats in 25fps, but also overheating after 48 minutes, so it depends on the room temp etc i guess.
@@StianTorp I had my radiator turned to 5 indoors while 5C outside temp. I touched the back of my camera several times and it didn’t get hot, just warm. No temperature increase between 20min and 60min. Not even an overheating signal or something, indicating a rising temperature. I wanted it to fail on me and grant me the opportunity to say „I was stupid and greedy again“, but the cam refused to reward me.

maybe turning off stabilisation is a great idea!
In S&Q you can only use «normal» stabilization, not active or dynamic, but in the test it was turned of. I think maybe that will make it last a tiny bit longer before it overheats, but I dont know.
But this is completely pointless if you use the camera for streaming....why should anyone have to buy a cooling fan to stop a £2k+ camera from freaking out? I just don't get. Sony should simply release less cameras that are nearly great and actually make one that's good to go.
Well, I get your point, but I dont use it for streaming. And it is in sonys «vlogging series» camera. I like the camera very much, and have no issue with the overheating.
Sure but if having a pro (streaming connectivity) which is also a con (overheating unless you have a fan) is mental! @@StianTorp
But does it overheat when streaming at 1080p? because it's pointless to stream at 4k
