- "Modern Times" is a 1936 comedy film written and directed by Charlie Chaplin. It's a classic silent film that satirizes the industrialization and dehumanization of the modern world, particularly focusing on the effects of the Great Depression. The film stars Charlie Chaplin himself, along with Paulette Goddard.
As for the Criterion Collection edition of "Modern Times," Criterion is known for releasing high-quality versions of classic and contemporary films, often including special features like commentary tracks, interviews, documentaries, and essays. Unfortunately, as of my last update in January 2022, there hasn't been a Criterion edition of "Modern Times" released. However, Criterion regularly adds new titles to its collection, so it's possible that they have released it since then or may release it in the future.
The film "Modern Times" is a classic comedy directed by Charlie Chaplin, released in 1936. It is considered one of Chaplin's greatest works and a significant piece of cinema history. The film depicts Chaplin's iconic character, The Tramp, navigating the challenges of the modern industrialized world. Here are some tags related to the film and its release by Criterion:

#ClassicFilm: Describing the film's status as a beloved and influential classic in the history of cinema.
#SilentFilm: Although "Modern Times" is not entirely silent, as it features synchronized sound effects and music, it is often associated with the silent film era due to Chaplin's roots in silent cinema and minimal dialogue in the film.
#Satire: "Modern Times" is known for its satirical depiction of industrialization, capitalism, and modernity, making this tag relevant for discussions about its themes and messages.
#1930s: Referring to the decade in which the film was made, providing context for its production and historical significance.

This film is my most favorite of all Charlie's motion pictures. ❤ Dear Charlie, you're still funny, even in 2024. I'm sure it would have tickled you pink to know how many generations you've imprinted on.

Fantástico um grande ator direto maestro no seu tempo maravilhoso parabéns Charles Chaplin 😅😅😅😅😅😅
A lot can be said about this film. But among other things, I think this was Chaplin's way of saying good bye to the silent films, an art form that he loved and was master of.
I am from India and Charlie Chaplin, Mr Bean are the best for my stress buster. After working 9 to 5. My Life good with this legends ❤.

Digitally saved for future audience thanks to Steven Spielberg and other brave people who understood the importance of Chaplin in a way they even did not understood but just accepted Chaplin was and still is a milestone
This will be my first time watching Chaplin….to see what all the fuss is about
Idea of the film is spot on of the title modern times, writer of this film is so advance bcoz CCTV and VIDEO CALLING is on the film
Not the original score that Chaplin worked so hard to get right.

But yes, I don't understand these kinds of classic films that are mistreated like that! Chaplin himself composed the music for these films, and to take that away from him is to trample on his work, nothing more, nothing less. Even though I love Mozart!
I recently saw a so-called original version of the great classic Nosferatu by Murnau, with ambient music on a loop.....anything!! How can we massacre such works!
A silent film is inseparable from its music ! However, it seems obvious ;)
Back ground music are very nice!🎉
"Modern Times," made as a (mostly) silent film well into the "Talkies" era, was both a critical and box office failure. Of course, now it's regarded as a classic and a prime example of Chaplin's genius! He managed to meld superb physical comedy with scathing social commentary, and as with many of his later films, earned him the reputation of actually being a Communist.
ما يعجبني هو كمية التكنلوجيا في ذلك الوقت
One of my favorite movies..❤
A classic 👌 CC, why the wrong soundtrack, Paulette Goddard was truly beautiful actress and great dancer 💃, the music is overbearing, should have left it silent
Un meraviglioso genio. Ha capito subito che non è tutto bene ciò che chiamano progresso.
Like the Mozart, nice fit
15:35 This was super funny 🤣
You are so funny dear charlie one one great in movies in the 🌎❤

90 years of this film
90 years? In my book 2024 minus 1936 is 88. Or are you from the future? 😂
@@Lucarius1yes
@@SilverScreen786as others have mentioned, Chaplin may not have been Mozart (though some may dispute that), but his full score was built to fit the scenes.
@@Lucarius1 i said approx number 90
Why remove Chaplin's music? Thumbs down, we couldn't watch it.
The Charlie namaste 🙏 ❤
5:57 Where's him talking, he was one of the rare talking characters in the movie
Is it just me, or did you turn the speed to x 1.25 for that "classic grotesque" vibe, too? 🤣
😂❤
This film HAS a synchronised soundtrack with extensive Foley sound; -SYNCHRONISED!
Why would a restoration NOT exclude Sir Charles' soundtrack?
Yes, it is NOT a talkie, but there was originally extensive synchronised sound.
I am OLD. I saw this in the theatres.
Exactly. Other restorations with very good quality synchronised sound including some speech exist on the net. Go to them.
Go to some other posting of this where they haven't SCREWED UP the sound track!!!
Avec cette musique qui dénature ce film n'est plus regardable, peut-être est-ce la volonté des diffuseurs ?
The new score sucks and you cant hear what they are saying. And yes kids, the original version wasn't entirely silent.
Maravilha
Su critica se podía aplicarse aun en día.
Notice also, in the original assembly line scene how chaplin is rotating the screws and the other two guys are pounding them with hammers, which is an absurd design and a commentary on how brainless the work is.
Plz upload the circus film
This is not the original version, the music, the beginning of the movie and no sounds are changed.
Whaaaaat WE run 90 years in the cercle..
But today we run faster...
Blind folded skating? How?

Why has Chaplin's music been removed and substituted by Mozart's? The latter was a great 18th century composer but his music doesn't suit the era of this film (the mid-1930s). Chaplin's does. What made the publisher think his judgement superior to one of the masters of the cinema? No subscription!
music was totally out of sync with the movie, most enjoyable
It's kind of remake of Metropolis
It seems like a parody of metropolis
20:13 today's world!
😂
music by Mozart.. kinda ruins it
worst scoring ... Why do you spoil the original? ? unable to listen .. heavy sounds..
❤
