  • Today, I take you guys along for this quick video as we plow thru 6" of snow with the PT GT! I thought she'd get stuck for sure, but she powered right thru the white stuff! I also answer the commonly asked question this time of year, "is the PT GT good in the snow?" I like the way this video turned out, so I hope y'all enjoy! Thanks for watching! :D

I had decided to install four studded snow tires on my 04' PT. The very next week I had work assignments in Eagle , Co. I went up in a very bad snow storm through Eisenhower tunnel and over Vail Pass without getting stuck. I felt safe enough to continue and made the trip safely. Yeah, they are great in the snow, even at high altitude!

@@helperguy1360 Yep. Wide and low prof are problems. My 16 Impala LTZ has brand new Bridgestone Potenza “all seasons”. It is FWD. Had to intentionally put it over a curb 3 days ago to avoid a crash. My FWD 2010 Escape Limited with good Firestone tires is pretty damn good. The AWD Ford Edge always wins though. Love it.

Good tires are the key to winter driving. All season tires are fine for 3 seasons.

driving. I use em every year. Never get stuck, and seldom if ever spin them.

My 2006 PT did very well in an ice storm in Tulsa and in regular snow. I am an old man now and just have the Cruiser so I gotta keep it going. I have done the radiator,,I forget what the fan thing is called but thats new also along with the water pump, new belt, thermostat and timing belt. A lot of work. I had to take it apart again because I didn't have the timing just right. Second time was a lot easier .Appreciate your videos.

Good to know. It does not snow where I live, but I'm (sadly) giving my PT up to my grandson's wife so she can have a car. It doesn't snow right where they live, either, but it does not far away, and she'll have to drive back through the mountains, and will encounter snow on the way home.

My wife and I always take my '06 PT in the snow over her 2014 Passat. It pulls better, stops better and handles better in the snow on a set of Toyo Proxes CF2 tires I brought with me from the UK when I moved. I've driven it a lot in the snow and it handles great. I just wish I had the manual version instead of auto. I've found the 2 setting to be the best performing in the really slippery snowy conditions. I drove it through a blizzard for 30 miles in November and it got us home just fine, even when there were broken down trucks and SUV's abandoned on the side of the road. Next year I'll be buying studded snow tires for a little extra traction, given the amount we've had in the midwest this winter.

PT's are wonderful cars, but although they go well in snow, their big problem is they are so close to the ground they will high center themselves easily on roads that have been heavily trafficked, or inconsistently plowed, and there is nothing more helpless then the feeling of a high centered PT just spinning it's wheels just an inch, or so aboveground. I can think of a lot of other Mopar front drive platforms I would rather have out in the snow. Keep the PT for the warm months of the year. 😊

Blizzaks solves most problems. ABS doesn't stop faster, it maintains control so you can steer around what you're trying to not run in to. Oversteer in the snow with FWD is easy... maintain traction with the front, and unload the rears around the turn.

I have two PT Cruisers and live in Southern Ontario. Both are shod with 4 winter tires and they perform great in the snow - not 4WD performance but you won't get stuck in deep snow on an unplowed road. Yes, in given slippery conditions, the rear will slide out even at low speeds so always go for 4 winter tires, not two. Also, install the base size tire and rim for winter.

From experience from a 1999 chevy suburban ls model driver. Do not stop on your gas pedal for more than 1-3 seconds at a given time for directional controll, if you find d yourself stopping abruptly just let off the gas before your front tires "dig" a deeper hole than you can get out of, from this you will find yourself being high centered. Being high centered means your car is being held up by the undercarriage insead of the wheels, and that means you can't move anywhere unless you use track pads or being pulled out by another whevicle. So I suggest having a small shovel, and slowly going forward for a foot or two and reversing a foot or two multiple times every time, to Compact the snow or mud to ensure you can travel that road.

I bought my PT GT new in October 2002 and immediately had the stock V-rated for speed 17" Goodyear Eagles siped for the snow & ice in Utah. The car did remarkably well considering high performance tires typically aren't all that great in cold weather. The ABS worked well but the Traction Control made all the difference in the world..... (try switching yours on/off and compare the difference!) When the OEM tires wore out I replaced them with the new Eagle GTs with Kevlar reinforced sidewalls and had those siped as well. Those tires were good for an extra 10-20 mph on the freeway on/off ramps and the car handled like a slot car on dry and even wet roads. They were also remarkable on the ice and it was all too easy to become over-confident because of how well they handled on the ice and even in deep slush. -- When they quit making the Goodyear Eagle GT to fit the Cruiser, I changed over to Continentals and Michelins but they are lackluster compared to those Eagle GTs! I would love to have a full set of Bridgestone Blizzak's to run on mine just for winter, but have no place to store them..... Conclusion: PT Cruiser GT is an amazing year-round daily driver and performs well on snow/ice with stock all-season speed-rated tires. Mine has taken me everywhere I wanted to go in the winter for the last 15 seasons!

Back in the 90s they tried to make ABS standard on everything, but too many people flipped out because they felt ABS wasn't safe. So a lot of manufacturers started making it an option AFTER it had been standard. So in the early 2000s, it was indeed an option on a number of models.

Apparently not, I believe it was an option on the higher model cruisers like the Touring. And of course, if you're in a situation where it's needed, you'll hear it and feel it lol.

I have a base 2002 with a 5sp and I am also from NY. I commute from the Cortland area to Ithaca daily. I run all-seasons and I have never had an issue with the snow. I dont have any ABS or traction control either. I almost think that the manual gives me a slight advantage when driving in the snow with more control over wheel spin. I dont know if you can watch this, but its from a few years ago and the road is rather steep coming out of Ithaca. facebook.com/1969ludwig/videos/10156841041849861

PT cruiser cars are heavy. It is a small car that weighs like a fat big car. That is why they drink gas like an alcoholic.
