I think your score is very generous. My Wife and I visited, it was very busy, I looked at the plates coming out of the kitchen checked the menu prices.. We both agreed and walked out.
Average fish and chips at the very best and the prices do not reflect what you get, in my opinion.

I'm sure someone will have already answered this, but proper malt vinegar comes from germination and anaerobic respiration of barley (produces the acetic acid); non-brewed condiment (fake vinegar) just contains manufactured acetic acid. We have very good fish and chips in my part of the world, but those certainly look very tasty. You're doing a splendid job Lee. Hooked on your videos. Best wishes of the season to you.

Interesting how our tastes differ! I sensed you weren't that knocked out with the overall experience by the look on your face at the curry sauce. Much of the meal seemed to follow suit, to be honest. Your face is a massive giveaway, Lee! I'll now let you into a secret which you probably won't believe. Before I started watching your videos, I had never heard of curry sauce with fish & chips! I know it cannot be a London thing but, for me, it just doesn't go ... and I absolutely love curry! Another thing I've noticed is the fact you hardly ever squeeze the lemon over your fish. I personally wouldn't enjoy my fish without! As for smothering it all in vinegar, not for me, thank you! To this day, I'll never understand the vinegar thing but, as I said, each to their own! My marks out of 10 for the meal: I'd give it an 8 for the very generous portion. I have seen better looking batter and, yes, the fish sort of disintegrated into a pile of flakes! Cannot taste it, of course, but really enjoyed the virtual experience. Wishing you and the lovely blonde angel a Happy & Healthy New Year ... even if she wasn't around for this trip! xx😃

We went there on Saturday. Got the small fish and chips (enough for us) from the takeaway. We noticed a small area near the takeaway where you can sit and eat at a table. As it was raining, we sat there. The fish and chips were good, and I decided the room should be called ''The Yorkshire Suite!'' This is for ''careful'' Yorkshire folk!!

Yes we have bread with fish n chips down South. I'm from London and we have always had bread with fish and chips including home made. How else could we make the obligatory chip butty. Gotta have that chip butty with tons of butter so it melts when you put the chips in and goes everywhere lol.

I live about 3 miles down the road from Thompsons Lee. Not been consistent enough for me when I've tried it. Too many times I felt like I've wasted my money as the fish isn't always very fresh and not enjoyable. I usually go the Wetherby Whaler round the ring road now, which is consistently good quality and only a bit further to get to.

Must admit looked very average to me. Quite expensive too I thought. The bread and margarine (that wasn’t butter) was only half “buttered”. Brown bread doesn’t belong with fish and chips. The curry sauce looked like glue. The chips were small (new potatoes are not available this time of year - the reason you don’t get big chips nowadays is all the big potatoes have been taken for jacket spuds). At least it was proper vinegar not the cheap non brewed condiment some places use - except Scotland where they use clear vinegar. I don’t see how anywhere can cater for such large volumes and keep up quality. And to be pedantic again there is no such thing as Yorkshire tea. It is NOT grown or prepared in Yorkshire! Just a marketing ploy. Doesn’t work with me because I don’t like Yorkshire!!! Cheers Lee, keep up the good work.

To be honest Lee, the Fish and Chips here did look nice.. However! There are certainly better I could think of.
I remember watching your Papa's Blackpool video the other day and while your experience there might not have been the best, I went there with my close friend a couple of weeks ago and we very much enjoyed it the Fish & Chips were cooked to perfection, the management were very friendly and had a nice chat with them for about 15 to 20 minutes or so despite the venue being a little busy.
Other fantastic Fish & Chips venues I could think of which I really believe you should be worth considering are the following.
Harbour Fish & Chips at St Ives in Cornwall - Simply Brilliant!
The Richmond Tavern (Ember Inns) at Penny Lane/Church Road in Liverpool - I only go there for their Posh Fish and Chips, Absolutely Mouthwatering...
Parkgate Fish & Chips at Parkgate, Neston - Local Business, good prices and to me what I had was fresh! You also have some lovely views outside, Plus there's also some Homemade Ice Cream to try at Parkgate as well!
The Taverners in Godshill on the Isle Of Wight - Believe me Lee.. TRY THEM!! Absolutely fantastic! One of my personal go to places when I visit.
Palma Cafe in Blackpool - Excellent value and fantastic portions! Seems to only be open during the Summer season however so do watch out for that.
The Steamer Inn in Shanklin Esplanade on the Isle Of Wight - always had good experiences when going there, good portions, really nice Fish & Chips and lovely views out towards the beach when the weather's good!
Wight's Fish & Chips in Ryde On the Isle Of Wight - Highly recommended!
Those are only a few places I would personally recommend to you Lee and hopefully you'll find the time to visit them at somepoint!

Because of your reviews I decided to have fish & chips today. Lucky that I was in a ‘Spoons’ at the right time & ended up with cod & chips. The cod was massive, nice & thick. The chips were perfect - nicely fried and golden & fluffy inner. Mushy peas were fine. I had a pint of Thatchers Gold with it - cost: £7.50 - and it looked a lot better than those. So for me I’d give your meal 6/10 - definitely not the best I’ve seen you review. The curry sauce is most likely standard catering curry sauce. (A powder you add boiling water too - from 3663 catering??)

Isn't the tartar sauce designated for the fish and not the chios? Ha!
I'm on board however with the Yorkshire Tea promotion. I can get most of the British teas at my local grocery store here in the US ( thanks Publix) and Yotkshire Tea makes the strongest/best cuppa. I can even get Yorkshire Gold from time to time.
    Cheers from a chilly Atlanta!

One of my biggest bugbears with cafes in the UK is well maybe more than one. First your drink of tea or coffee is served so long before your food its cold or one catering tea bag in the pot which is why I take my own Yorkshire tea bag with me. As far as I am concerned two Yorkshire tea bags in the pot is worth a ten on its own.

A proper Italian run business that has been open for many, many years. It's run by Alfredo and Linda Nutini, the parents of the singer Paolo Nutini. He used to work in it when I was at college in Paisley. He used to serve me most days. It's still weird to see how famous he is now. It's a beautiful Chippy. I highly recommend Fish and Chips with a single battered hamburger. Lovely.

I've never heard of this 'world famous' place until now, but it looks like a very nice retaurant. The meal was very nicely presented on white crockery which always looks nicer. I comment without the curry as I don't like, never have it, but I thought the fish, chips and peas looked ok, the fish in particular looked great to me, it wasn't a million miles behind Murgatroyds. Ok, the chips weren't perfect, very few are nowadays, but they looked better than some I've seen and had. Some might say it was pricey, but you'd expect to pay more in a place like this. I personally can't find much to fault here. I'd say a definite 9 here.
I recall when you went to Murgatroyds, it being very busy there in the seated restaurant which was expensive. This place too was very busy and not cheap. Again, not much evidence of the cost of living crisis here. Nice video. Oh, and it's the malt vinegar to buy, and it's the one called 'non brewed condiment which is artificial vinegar.

Harry Ramsdens when it was the massive place with a coach car park , amusement rides and people patiently lined up as they'd booked the coach trip , that's famous (not now ) . That's just a large place on a very busy road used as a stop off on long journeys

Fish looks great, chips look over fried to me just from the look. Mushy peas nice and green you didn’t sound that keen on them or the curry sauce or the chips though

We usually stop at The Highwayman cafe just before there for a bacon and egg bap. Used to be quite reasonable cost plus I have a free wee

Tartar sauce goes with the fish not the fries. You know it would be easier to eat the fish if you hold the fork properly. You turn it upside down and try to stab a flaky fish. That doesn't work so great. You're just creating a mess.

Looks amazing but I think white bread for butties not brown...brown bread more used for sandwiches..my mam n dad are Hungarian so we had bread with everything..even toast lol!!

When I was a kid the bread was to bulk it out. Me and my dad used to share a haddock and chips. I’m a fat bastard now though and I have a large fish to myself, so I wouldn’t be able to fit bread in.
I haven’t seen luminous mushy peas for years. The only place I’ve ever seen them was at a Chinese/fish and chip place that used to be near me.

Nice vlog Lee I just found out that Gordon Ramsey Fish and chips just opened a location in Times Square NYC ( just in time for New years ball drop lol) a local vloger did a video on it Well, I commented that till the macmaster rates it ? Well anyway! It looked like Arther treachers from the 1980s and they had dipping sauces? You can find the the vloger in You Tube’s search take care

🤣a week ago, you suffered through the worst fish and chips in the UK. This meal looked light years better than that ,uh,stuff. Nice clean restaurant and nice presentation on the table too. And when you cut that fish, it looked delicious. I see the Nine for sure.

Go regularly in the summer. Sons mentally disabled, so once a week while he's at daycentre I'll have a ride over (motorcycle) from Leeds. Just far enough to be able to get back if needed. Anyway. They're still nice, but like many fish and chip shops, it's noticeable the portions have got smaller while the prices rise. Sign of the times. Talking to a guy who works on sales for the wholesalers of many products for these shops. The prices have rocketed. Some smaller fish and chip shops will struggle, if they put their prices up too much they'll lose custom, but if not they've no profit.

You haven’t had proper fish and chips till you have been to Murgatroyds, Yeadon, Leeds. Definitely one of, if not the best fish and chip restaurants. Mushy peas in ramekins? Just a clever way of selling tiny portions.
