We bought our ( brand new) home in Davenport Fl. 1 1/2 years ago. No loans, free and clear. We didn't want to leave our son and daughter a headache when we died. I told them that this 2700 sq., house was their inheritance. We all work together to maintain the home because everyone has a vested interest.

All retirement communities are 55 and older. There is a reason why retirement communities have that age range. Its because the residents of those communities want peace and quiet in their retirement years.

Yes, that's what's all over our country that was supposed to have been the greatest damned country in history with the greatest potential for golfing, investing, culture, human rights, democracy, and financial career business success with a golden parachute retirement. I found Florida to be very hostile, aggressive, and mean. Guys on a work crew asked me where I was from so they could stare me down stating Missourians are crazy. I'm like WTF I'm just taking a short vacation in the Miami area. We don't take vacations. I'm like, don't you like to see hot nude women on the south beach or get on a fishing boat or enjoy a BBQ? Florida looks like the best outdoor place, but very poorly planned, I said. Not moving to Gainesville in attempt to gain an affordable footing lift up in life. Nope. All 50 states are road rage, shootings, and mean spirited for our republic is rotted out as zombie nation. Without housing and necessary amenities supporting people to live and thrive, there's no one to work except underpaid homeless temporary employees without criminal background checks.

Thank you for breaking this down, because Americans have the misconception that having a home is cheaper than renting when this is false; this is especially true in 2024 when the housing market and interests are high. They only focus on the mortgage vs rent costs, but don't take into account stuff like homeowner insurance, property taxes, monthly utility (natural gas, electricity, water, etc.), and the inconsistent costs of home repairs like a boiler breaking down or pipers bursting. Owning a home in America is VERY expensive and is almost maddening even in "middle-class" areas.
If property values and interests were low and the purchasing power is high then owning a home would be a better idea for younger people, but not now....unless you are an elderly person who has no intention of ever paying off the home and no intention of passing ownership to your relatives.
BTW, why are banks giving out 30-year loans to people in their retirement age of 65+? Banks are supposed to deny those type of loans because it destabilizes the housing market if homes are constantly getting put on the market every decade or so; this is the type of crap that led to the 2008 housing market crash.

  • @MusicheadRick
    @MusicheadRick 10 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

Another very awesome video about how Americanism can solve problems, but create other problems. The Villages fascinates me as a Nurse.
The Villages is the ultimate segregation of elderly people. Homehealth must be very easy there. There are lots of clinics for treatment of edema for instance. A nursing home would not be needed in the Villages, all elderly can age in place. Put up a couple of specialised clinics and hospitals focussed on geriatric syndromes, and all elders have excellent acces to affordable efficient healthcare. All elders easy to reach with the good infrastructure.
But at what cost? And here you make an excelent remark that elderly people are important for society too! and they should have their place without segregating them to "old people only" locations.
In the 80's to the 00's the Netherlands had a system were all elderly could go to state funded "care homes". As it got more expensive, the quality went downhill very fast. What we were left with, was a segregated older population, a younger population who weren't used to taking care of their elders, and very lonely neglected elders in filthy underfunded and understaffed care homes.
We are still recovering from this nightmare! And now we have a huge problem with our aging population.
Segregating elders in any shape or form is a disaster unfolding in front of your young eyes without realising that its a disaster.
But it shure looks nice seeing elders racing around in golfcarts! Terrible!
Aside from the horrible and unhinged rants and sometimes very toxic remarks; you can be nice too and make good content.
This vid and narrative you made here is so good, i could show this on my Nursing University College in ethics class. Hats off to you sir.

This guy is way off the mark. You say it yourself..."Aside from the horrible and unhinged rants and sometimes very toxic remarks; ...". The people that are the oldest in The Villages (TV) are not boomers, they are 78 years old and above. The youngest boomers are now 61. I am 73, I grew up in the 50's and 60's in Broward County (SE Florida). I do not live in TV. Sections of TV span Marion, Lake and Sumter counties. Go to the town squares 5-9 pm see and meet TV people.

@@clagueb3686 hmm i am not necessaraly focussed on the things he says about bad behaviour, crime and drugs. And i agree that this is the unhinged part of this story.
TV is very big, its 3 times the size of Amsterdam. You cant judge all people living in TV based on a couple of incidents.
I am absolutely fascinated by, and very interested in TV. Our Westernised world is coping with an aging population. Especially healthcare and welbeing will be very challeging in the coming 50 years.
I think TV is great, especially for elders who dont have a family to care of them or have family, but that family has to work a lot for financial stability. Then there's simply not enough time to take care of their elders.
A place like TV could be an excellent way to increase efficiency of healthcare. I could help way more elders in TV with a Homehealth team than in Amsterdam for instance.
But i like to think about the ethics. Segregating elders from a city and the consequences of doing that.
Maybe a TV "light" could be a better alternative, i meand closer to a city and making shure young and old is still somehow mixed.
I want to continue my Nursing career in Florida, and i am now in the process of getting into the NCELX exam.
I definitely will visit The Villages! And maybe it will become the place for me to work.

What part of Miami you live in? Keep in mind population density in Miami is 20k per square mile in some areas

I love roundabouts. Wish there were more near where I live. So many obnoxious 4-way stops with people who don’t know right of way. Your vids are a total disconnect with the self-promotion of DeSantis and how awesome FL is. I haven’t been down there in over 10 yrs.

LIFE HACK: Best way to approach a four way is creep up to the sign when other cars are appoaching. This way theres no doubt who stopped last.

The Villages exist because there is a market for that kind of living. It's a matter of freedom. If old people want to live surrounded by other old people then they should be free to do it. As they age, they will provide jobs for younger people to come look after them.
