Tavannes Tunnel Explosion 1916

Thank you for this story. My great-grandfather was one of the men who perished. His widow was never told the real story and until the Armistice was still waiting for her husband to come home. The truth was revealed a couple of years later and my great-grandfather received the war cross posthumously.

Ive just read 'Somme: The Heroism & Horrors of War" by Martin Gilbert. (an amazing book BTW)
He references the events of that day, in this tunnel
And recalls some of the witnesses claims
It was horrific - such a loss
