Haha I love Matt's channel. I know for sure that if I'm in the area I'll take my chances on any road because I know Matt's got my back. Great channel. Great team. Glad you had a bit of fun.
Great video I have to say, I imagine that it is therapeutic to be driving along, solo, and talking through what's going on with the camera (and "us"). Thanks for bringing us along for these trips.
Great video. Matt’s Off Road Recovery got me intreated in the geology of Southern Utah. Makes me wish Nick Zentner, another TH-camr, would move to Hurricane. I just starting reading Geology Underfoot in Southern Utah by Orndorff, Wieder, and Futey. It is a lot easier to understand what made our world when it is not hidden by vegetation.
First off congrats on navigating the stuck capital of sand hollow . & how cool to run into Matt . I love his channel & all of his friends, fab rats etc
Thanks for sharing your adventure. Reminds me so much of the overland/offroad exploring I did many years ago in the Four Corners region. Also makes me wish I could go back and do some more!!
Donald, glad you didn't have to make a call, that bunch are a hoot, George tells me we nearly crossed paths Saturday, was a great day to be out adventuring.. thanks as always!
I know, it's hilarious that we were essentially in the same distant place on the same day, I'm bummed I didn't run into you guys. Glad you all had a nice time!
So much rad in this edition, D! I like the connections with your Patreon supporters, the badge reveal/story, and of course your amazing story-telling videography, camp cooking and the rest (bonus Matt sighting, LOL) !!
I watch it for that reason as well. I am an ole country boy and somewhat of a farmer. The physics of getting things moving, stuck trucks, tractors, skidloaders, or even trees (or a dead cow!) is part and parcel of my life. It never hurts to see how others would rig a pull. Just this evening I had to pivot a buddy out of a snowy ditch
Okay, first watching this channel and I like it. I always scan the GPS to see what weird stuff is out in the middle of nowhere, and this guy actually drives to them and checks it out, hats off for satisfying my curiosity, vicariously. New sub here
I also follow Matt and like his channel. My favorite part of this video, was seeing the custom grill badge! That was way cool of your subscriber to make that piece!
Loved seeing your frontier in Utah. Most of the paces you went I’ve never been to. I still need to do a lot more exploring. Pretty awesome you ran into Matt on the way to a recovery, I love his channel too. Keep it up.
It's the scale of the Desert SW that amazed/amazes me. I remember driving across West TX and saw this already large mesa ahead of us in the distance (like at 8:36). I thought, cool, we'll be near that soon to take a closer look. Hours later we still weren't there, and the perspective shifted it to my SW. We eventually drove past, as it loomed large, but still distant to our south. The immensity is impossible to capture on film, or describe.
You found some incredible spots in this video! That's awesome about meeting Matt's Offroad Recover at Maverik, I'm a huge fan of Maverik and Matt's Offroad Recovery. I've been following them on YT for a while. That's one part entertainment and one part education to hopefully help me avoid needing to make a call while taking my E-350 camper van places I have not business taking a van! LOL
Cool getting to meet Matt, Trevor and Ed, and you didn't even have to make a call to do it! Too bad, you didn't get a shirt out of the deal, but Jason and Edward would never let you live that down if you did. LOL
Love Matt's channel. How cool you got to met him in such a unexpected way..😁 Love your Utah adventure. This is definitely a fun state to explore and look forward to seeing more adventures here in your future. I have been here a lot lately 😄👍
Sir, those were some Awesome landscapes you experienced - always makes me ("stuck" in 2WD) a little jealous. That Matt's crew is insane, are they not? It seems like every video I catch myself thinking "oh no they didn't!". But they did. I have the utmost respect for those guys.
It's funny, I only notice it when I'm editing the videos, and yes it drives me friggin' bonkers. I spend more of my waking hours editing video than any other activity, so I have to listen to that dang thing a lot, haha. Apparently it's a common issue with the Frontier hood, and someone did tell me about a fix. I just always have something else I need to work on first. One day though, I'm gonna take care of that! :-)
I was fortunate enough to have spent the month of October in Utah. Being from Florida, I can certainly relate to your reaction of the unbelievable scenery there. Great video!
Thanks, Donald, for taking me to places I'll never get to...I'm too old to do both and I've still got unfinished business in Yukon and Northwest Territories. Your hamburger replacement logo looks top shelf. Tip for you and anyone with an undercarriage spare tire...run it down, lube everything associated with it and run it back up at least a few times a year or it will weld itself in place.
That's an excellent tip. I've not touched it since getting the truck. Only once in my life have I ever had to drop the spare on any of my pickups...it would certainly be a good idea just for me to go through the motions, my brain gets a little rusty too. :-)
There was a Ford pickup with a flat tire and the CHP was there with lights to protect. I stopped to see if I could help, and it turned out he bought the truck used and didn't have the "key" so he was trying to use ViseGrips. Not working well. I had my M18 Milwaukee 4 inch grinder and he had it cut and was able to change his tire. The CHP officer said he would be buying one for himself.
Hey it’s Rob from Australia, I’ve fallen in love with your desert country and your footage was superb . I haven’t watched you before so I’ll definitely be following you as you trip around Oregon . It sounds spectacular
Oh man! I thought that rock formation at 7:02 was sand! Neat!! I'm surprised and pleased it doesn't have tire marks all over it. I really enjoyed the sounds of the truck from around the 15:00 mark. Very relaxing :) I expect the feeling you had when you rolled up on Matt in the gas station was like when I see you on 18th!
Such beautiful scenery. I never get tired of the amazing desert landscape here in Utah. You went to several places that are on my list of places to explore.
Great video Donald guy’s at Matt’s recovery are awesome follow them also, Utah has some absolutely gorgeous views an scenery good stuff as always be safe 👍👍
Another good one, Donald! What a great trip. I’m sure you would have wanted it to take 2 months getting home. But it still looks like you’re getting to see a lot.

I used 100% less music in this episode. There was none at all in the whole video. :-) There were a number of reasons for it coming together this way, but ultimately, it feels dry and incomplete to me without music. Chris Shontz (Venture4WD) pulls it off beautifully in all his videos, but I really prefer at least a little music at key points to help express and convey what I was feeling at the moment. Nevada episode will definitely have music. :-)

@@softroadingthewest I have an Xterra as well and it makes the same squeak. Its the hood latch, where the U bolt from the hood locks in. They rub together.
