    Wow, people are dumb and can't joke. And take politics too seriously. This song isn't political. It's ripping on the self pitying crowd that think they have it so bad but had a sweet life. Chill out.

    • @Desencadenar
      @Desencadenar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      People imagine things, more often than they actually SEE them. I mean, you gotta be delusional to see something political here. That particular crowd has always been notoriously non-poltical, for one thing.
      As far as I remember, the author is quite the anti-war progressist, tolerant leftie. But you wouldn't guess that in a million years, from such a video. He just happens to be able to see things from more than one position.

    You know... one the one hand, some of the youth in fortunate, well developed areas really are spoiled and whiney. They really are. BUT. Youth mental health isn't a fucking joke, and I see songs like this as a product of their time. They haven't aged well and can be quite damaging. Not because I completely disagree with the message. Far from it, in fact, since Ive known a lot of Emos who complained about having nothing to complain about, but just because some one is white and living in a suburb doesn't mean there's nothing there. Even some one who is the most privileged looking on the outside might have major familial issues, be dealing with mental and emotional abuse or rampant neglect that their parents try to smooth over with gifts, leaving them confused, angry and feeling completely alone and isolated. They could be suffering from major mental or chemical imbalances that are going undiagnosed and untreated because their parents don't care, don't believe them or, maybe, even have the same kind of thinking as this song, saying "you've got nothing to be sad about, so grow the fuck up and deal with it." That's not everyone, obviously, and some of them are just hopping on trends because their friends do it or whatever, but I think it's important to differentiate between the two, because lumping every case together as "emotional trend hopping teenager" is dangerous. That's how we get kids breaking down, hurting themselves or others or growing up to be unbalanced and dangerous adults.
    I know this is a long comment and many wont care what I've had to say, but I wanted to get it out there regardless. I used to love this song when I was 18-22 and came back to listen to it again tonight and realized how much of this kind of dismissive shit I heard growing up. I lived in a tiny space in the basement from the ages of 14 to 18 because my moms boyfriends kids took all the other rooms but the master bedroom. I had no heater in my space, no light in my space except a lamp I attached to an extension cord I ran under my door. I was neglected, yelled at, abused, talked down to and ignored all my life, but because I was white and lived in a big house, no one cared. I was whiney. I needed to grow up. So, by the time I was 18, I felt every "Emo" was just being whiney. I didn't understand. I didn't even start to understand until mid 22 when a high school friend who never seemed to outgrow the emo phase hung himself. I had always told him to grow up, it wasnt that bad, everything would be fine. I never stopped to listen, just like every one else. I joined the military shortly after that. I had been applying for about a year and my background check finally went through and I got in. A couple years into my service, I was crippled in the line of duty. My left leg had been pretty fucked up and even doing logistics work was quite difficult as a result of my injuries. Eventually, I was medically released, seen as unfit for service. During the long release process, I tried twice to take my own life and failed both times.
    It wasn't until I started getting therapy after going back home that I started to realize the horrible shit I had lived through, that no one had listened to or cared about. I was diagnosed with severe clinical depression due to chemical imbalance and prescribed several medications to help that I'm still on today. If I had listened to my friend and talked to him instead of at him, maybe he would still be alive. If some one had listened to me and helped me earlier, maybe I wouldn't have tried to follow suite. So yeah, maybe some kids are just trend hopping. Or maybe, just MAYBE, we need to listen to what they're actually saying and try to help them, instead of brushing them off as whiney emo hippies.
    Sincerely, a crippled vet.

    Also, it is a self-fulfilling prophesy. By being so self-pitying, they often get targeted by people for being as such, and so continue down a spiraling vortex of angst and depression. If they chose to do something about their problems, they would have less people ragging on them in the first place, and so could attempt a cheerier outlook on life. It doesn't matter what happened to them in the past. The here and now is what matters. Remember the past. Prepare for the future. Live for the moment.

    thats basically what it is and why this song was created, for those who are taking away from the real depressed people and just trying to get noticed.
    No one wants anyone to commit suicide and no one wants anyone to snap and kill 43 people for no reason but also no one wants someone to sit around and take away from those who really did have a hard up bringing or rough patch in their life.

Apparently Mr. Pie Man didn't read his own wiki link, because it specifically says on there that the draft has not been used, you just have to register your name so that IF the draft is ever reinstated, they will know how many people they have available and who to look for.

    @Shiruvi I agree completely on the fact that things beyond out control can in fact cause depression. I also acknowledge that medication can fix this. But it's fairly obvious, and has been proven time and time again, to -not be the best solution-. Ant-depressants can numb your other emotions as well. There are countless cases of people becoming more depressed after taking them, even. All of this -can- be solved on your own. In the end, medicating yourself is not and never will be the answer

  • @Jpicc89
    @Jpicc89 15 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The way I see it, there are two classifications of "emo". One is the style, i.e. the clothes, hair and music. If that is what you're into, ok, fine by me. The other is the personality, i.e. "Oh woe is me, my life is sooo horrible". That is the one which is a load of crap. The concept of "emo" as an outlook on life is so mindbogglingly retarded that I really do just want to throttle anyone who thinks that way. There is no reason whatsoever to hate your life that much. Someone always has it worse.

    There are thousands of people in the world that are often in the same situations as them, if not worse, and yet they don't resort to self-pitying as a mode of expression. They do something about it, or at least try. We've all had bad times. I, for example, recently totaled my car, am being laid off, and am having a piss poor time at school trying to keep my grades up enough to keep my funding. But I don't start hating the world and complaining that my life sucks. I accept it and move on.

    Electrons move. They have a force, like gravity, but is in all cases except for black holes stronger. That makes them repel and pull other objects. That's pretty much it. The reason why not everything isn't as magnetic as other objects is because of the way the atoms are in that materia. In some, the electrons are more free, and then they move in a certain direction. That's pretty much how it works.

The worst day that anyone has here in this country is better than most days in many other countries. Because we have shelters, relief programs, counseling hotlines, and a vast number of other resources that makes sure even the poorest of people get what they need to live. Not many other places can say they have something like that.

    Freedom of opinion also means that people will disagree, and that means they will be critical of others. Freedom of expression doesn't mean "Everyone has to accept what I do", it means "Everyone is free to have a view", even if that view means giving you crap for yours.
    People need to grow skin and learn to deal with the fact that not everyone is on their side/

    This song....is the greatest thing ever when it comes to one of the biggest problems in north america, like the people who really have a place being super emo are generally actually really enthusiastic about life. Basically the only kids in North America who shouldn't have this song drilled in is the ones who actually have clinical depression, and hell even they are generally enthusiastic sometimes.
