  • Today we are mixing colors and learning about the color wheel. It's always a good idea to brush up on your color mixing knowledge and practice mixing the colors you have in your palette.
    Thanks for joining me this year in this watercolor journaling journey. I hope to paint in my journal most days of the year and invite you to join me. We don't need big resolutions, just gentle intentions to tend to our creative soul a little bit everyday.

    You are such a good teacher, Shana! I have been afraid of colour mixing and just buy a variety of types of a colour. I’m going to watch this over and over and make notes. I am understanding this better! Thank you SO VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!

      It can be a really intimidating part of the process. Just little steps and to understanding. And you don’t have to learn it all at once. Thanks for watching and I’m glad this was helpful. 😁

    interesting, i stuck with it , i don'have your colours, so i have come up with my own warm range & cool range,
    so for wam i'm using ultramarine blue, cadmium red, new gamboge. For the cool range i'm going with pyrol red colbalt blue
    cadmium yellow, i am able to include quin gold , quin magenta. Out all of these colours only 2 shades of green i don' like.
    Otherwise i am very happy with this colour mixing practise. . thank you again , see you in the next one.🥰🥰🥰

    My mixing problem? Yellow shades. I can get the weirdest not-dark-yellows, but... will try again combining warms and cools.

    I'm a super newbie and this was very helpful, thanks so much! The problem will be trying to remember all that. I know it takes years and experience. but at 76 yrs of age I will probably continue with a lot of the ready mades in my palette. A question: How does everyone get those big, beautiful paint swaths of color in your mixing wells? Maybe I'm not using enough water and paint, but it just stays at these stupid (I'm frustrated) looking little separated little dot like puddles that won't spread out. Thank you for sharing your time and talent. I always look fwd to when you come on as you are one of my faves! ,

    • @shanacirce2667
      @shanacirce2667  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Kathy, the trick is to just learn one little bit at a time and practice it. Eventually it starts to come together. Most likely the issue with your palette is that it is plastic and plastic notoriously beads up as it’s too slippery to let the water and paint stay in the place you put it. My palette is an enamel coated metal which helps the water and paint stay where you put it. I hope that helps.

    What was the name of the second blue?

  • @jillianarbour5323
    @jillianarbour5323 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So I have a French ultramarine blue from Daniel smith and whatever color I mix it with, the colors separate and granulate as it dries. Is there an ultramarine that doesn’t do that?

    • @shanacirce2667
      @shanacirce2667  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmmmm. Most ultramarines do granulate and separate a bit. Some more than others. I’ve always enjoyed the Daniel smith one and never felt the separation was too much. Just enough to give it a little interest. A substitute for a warm blue that doesn’t granulate would be a phthalo blue red shade.

    Mixing color is so much fun. How do you feel about mixing from cyan yellow and magenta?

    • @shanacirce2667
      @shanacirce2667  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I am a big fan. I think it’s a great palette with a large range. In my palette this would be quinacridone magenta, phthalo blue and cadmium yellow.
