Stumbled across this recently.. Only took 30 years.. Makes me smile everytime I hear it.. Love to play it on guitar.. So beautiful.. I can play it over and over like a broken record!!

I don't know what carefree days of indifference you are referring to, your own when this song meant something to you, or, the years you think this song is referring to? Because I could be wrong, but I don't think his words are meant to be literal, but I could be wrong, and my own carefree days of indifference are so long ago I can't remember, but I'm sure I had them. Back in the day, this song spoke to me of satire, because elsewise he (Bob Geldof, if not the Boomtown Rats) were out trying to end world hunger and such. But that was just my own perspective, one of about 3 or so billion people on the planet back then......so, as PIL said, I could be wrong, I could be right. But I'm not so fragile as to hear someone else's opinion.
Even having Irish dancers featured in the video is ironic because he once said something along the lines of 'Ireland never did a thing for him......or his people' something like that anyway. I love his use of irony oh and more importantly I love him xxxx.

I had a nice conversation with Bob some 25 years ago at Madam Tussaud’s in London, UK. He seemed a bit indifferent, though!
