Met Jersey Joe as a kid in the early 1980's. He came into to a McD's where I was working. He had a warm smile. I shook his hand. It was like a catchers mit,. Men of his era were made of steel . A master of the sweet science.
@DJK-cq2uy people like you are why society and the internet are trash. This guy gains nothing by lying. Whether you like a comment or not, despite what you've been brainwashed into believing, means nothing.
The man was tortured by life, always underrated! If he had some attention and support while he was younger who knows how great he would become! Great, work hanZagod, thanks!
Stylistically one of the most underrated fighters ever. Power, movement, speed, chin, endurance. Had the ability to improvise on the fly in a fight. Slick as Vaseline and twice as greasy.
Only guy to stand square right in front of, on line, and with his hands down chin up against the brown bomber, they were both aged but power is usually the last thing to go in a fighter so that shows the the uniqueness of this guy.
Wow. I knew the name but never knew he pioneered Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Pernell Whitaker and Lights Out Toney's styles. Even Aaron Pryor's off rhythm style comes from him, but mixed with some Rocky Graziano and more frenetic.
Another one of the most underrated fighters in modern times ...Augustus’s natural ability is incredible and extremely rare. If he took it more serious he could have been one of the greatest of all times.
Jersey Joe is in my top 6 heavyweights of all time list. I am currently reading his biography, and must say that it is really good so far. Great video!
He usually doesn't rank high on most peoples list, be he's in my top ten heavyweights because just one film of his you can just tell he was special and one of a kind. His ability to break and maintain cadence at the same time is just mind-blowing. I just wish we had more fight films we could study.
@@sujitsharma4346 Not really. Wilder is only 215 and most guys nowadays are just out of shape. Look at Primo Canera he was just as big as Anthony Joshua if not bigger.
The whole time I had a smile on my face. Great movements. It’s fantastic to see that ages ago, there were this kind of boxer. I’m glad we can watch them for free. Great video and the music was on point.
There are few channels on TH-cam that really have this dedication to the craft. Your videos are great for the casual viewers because it give them a sense of how riveting boxing really is, I wish people truly understood how special this sport is. Only thing that keeps me up at night just wishing I had more time to understand and appreciate it.
The Sweet Science on film. Angles, understanding the triangle , old school, footwork of the gods, a pure masterclass of fighting. One of the best ever who laced them up !!
I see strong resemblences between Jersey Joe's fighting style & Jack Johnsons, accept Joe seemed to have Perfected Johnsons fighting style which was more brutal & rugged Joe was like Jack Johnson with some of Ali's footwork, it's a shame Joe doesnt get as much recognition as people like, Ali, Liston, Rocky Marciano & George Forman he was truly one of the greats.
It's Sugar Ray Robinson and Willie Pep. That was his real influence. Down to the trunks he wore and the people he wanted on his team(Bundini who was part of Rays entourage).
What a master of the art of boxing ! A true ring technition Jersey Joe Walcott. He really deserves to be remembered as one of the greatest heavyweight champions of the world there ever was.
Incredibly talented and skilled fighter, had a lot of bad luck inside and outside of the ring. I beleive his style would have given Ali a lot of trouble.
That last left hook was devastating timing was down to the milliseconds the way it connected was tragic it could have killed ezzard Charles both fighters are legends and just as good as each other in their own ways.
greatest footwork of ever, maybe only wlillie pep and ray robinson ,on that evel , but joe was an heavy weigth . the left hook he win the title againsr charles simply a masterpiece.
Damn. Such a great boxer and his movement looks very divine from being on another level. His stamina looked insane even with his older years. An amazing legendary boxer
Wow I read about this guy in the early 90s in a boxing book found at my local library. His name was never mentioned during a conversation of the sport just the greats. But this man is a great. 😉👍🍻
You hardly see any boxers today trying to pull off the shifty moves of Walcott anymore, the feints and footwork, especially at Heavyweight. James Toney was one of the last guys to incorporate some of the Walcott moves. A young fighter Caleb Plant seems to try to work some slickness in the ring, we will see if it works against the top guys.
Sheiki Baz yea man i agree ,Toney trunk mobility and the way he used shoulders as protection was very close to Joe ones, not so for foot work , in foot work Joe was really all times top level , the left hook that ko Charles , as the Robinson one that ko olson had to be in the box dictionary at the voice left hook
A great fighter, so underrated. He could punch, he could move, he was tough,he was fast and accurate. He was better at 37 years old, and in better shape than the guys that were 10 years younger than him.
Masterpiece!

daVinci got nothing on Walcott when it comes to art on canvas.
Mike C How do you feel about yourself after that

Pep Ciccarelli well that puts a cap on your iq
That footwork is sublime, and he's in heavyweight, you can claim others had better footwork, but pound for pound this is the best.

Biography , whats the Title of the book?
This is what people who want to learn how to box should watch.. the footwork is where everything begins.
Crazy how his highlights are him past his prime and he looks this good
Walcott had a late prime I'd say though, he was better in his 30's than his 20's.
@hanzagod i wondered if Ali emulated Walcott's foot work?
We'll never see a heavyweight like him again
carlito boxing honestly sad to say defensive master underrated offense💯
carlito boxing because the heavyweights today are all stiffs
Jay Cartwright Not Tyson fury 🙌🏾

Ali got his boxing style from two fighters, Sugar Ray Robinson and Jersey Joe Walcott. The Ali shuffle came from Jersey Joe.
Actually he took inspiration from Willie Pastrano and Ralph Dupas. Robinson and Walcott were fighters that Ali admired but did not emulate.
