Absolutely infuriating that there isn't an actual training! Even with the practice scenarios it cuts out and starts over every time they get the puck😊 why not let it play out I want to see how this game works I know nothing about hockey it looks fun and it just keeps you from not learning.. I look up videos on TH-cam and they're all about tricks and tips not about how to actually play this is infuriating
I’m hear watching this video for the same reason. IM so confused, didn’t understand offsides (had to search, I know there must be an easier way to shoot when on a break. I’m just playing, having fun lowkey, just running out there, but if I understood how to actually play this game it’d be great.
@@rmfjuneFIFA has such awesome in-depth drills for EVERY aspect of the game, that let you just run reps over and over to build muscle memory and understand the moves and controls and it's insane NHL doesn't have that too

Dude I just got nhl 24 as a huge hockey fan but never playing an NHL game. I don't know the controls or anything and can't find any tutorials. I appreciate this so much!!!
Haven't played NHL in years but love it. Getting back into it, I needed something to to understand the basic mechanics of what EA is offering up in 2024 and I have to say I like what I see. I'm about half a century old and you killed it kid, I don't even need to look for another video and feel confident enough that I can get into this again because of how well this kid articulates what he's talking about. I learned a lot from this TH-cam video in very little time. I wish all videos were this well done. Saves me time and I can just get back into hockey. Thank you.
The new controls have completely destroyed eashl and hut. It's literally just rampant hip checks and Michigans. Absolutely zero hockey is played. Every one does the same thing this year. Go to corner loop around hope they miss the hit. Cut in front and either aim far side or deal a 1 timer. Goalies put the puck in the net more often than ever or miss what should be a blatantly easy save by diving all over the place or poke checking for zero reason.. The new goalie controls are horrific.
I bout the duel sense edge pro controller for almost $300 and being able to change the button schemes and putting hustle on left paddle and reverse hit on right paddle has made my l3 stick last much longer as I keep breaking at least one controller a season from nhl. Also you can shorten the L2 and R2 to 3 settings the shortest is close enough to a mouse click for me and both L3 and R3 sticks are replaceable for $20 so it’s a no brainer if your like me and smash the hustle button without realizing how hard your pressing!! Battery life absolutely sucks but it comes with a 10 or so foot cord to stay plugged in while playing so the battery isn’t a issue for me. The game is still not as good as it should be and load up times in menus or lagging is like your playing on ps3 and is no where near as fast as 2k nba so I hope it gets fixed come October!!!
been subbed a bit now, and have been playing this since the very beginning, NHL Hockey on the Sega Genesis, being older, the hands don't quite work like they used to so, this video was super helpful to relearn kinda the system. Thanks Nasher!
Defense in general is nerfed. If you do anything but hip check you'll probably take a penalty. User controlled players also don't have block pass animations so there's that.
I wish they would just leave the right stick as shoot/dangle and not make it for hitting. The amount of accidental penalties im getting from mistiming the one T and checking someone instead for the interference call is brutal lol since we have hit buttons on the buttons now for defense its not needed. It would probably improve the poke checking mechanic too with the hitting taken off the right stick.
As some one who just got in the game this really helped me I understand everyone else is mad because it use to take real skill but I love this totally control
I’ve played the game for the last 14 years and am not embarrassed to say, have looked forward to at least one game per day when not traveling. Even when others complained, I’ve loved it. Unfortunately, EA has decided to try to reinvent the wheel and in the process, ruined what was once so enjoyable. The skill stick is useless and the reverse check is punishment for anyone with strong hands - as is trying to take a shot if you’re pushing too hard on the right stick (winds up and does not release)…I can’t tell you how many breakaways I’ve had and not released the shot after deking the goalie…the on ice play is truly bizarre, “squishy”, slow and painful. And the controls require the game to be a full time job for anyone that wants to be competitive. I’m more upset about not having this game to look forward to. I’ve tried to fight through it but it’s so unplayable that after a decade and a half, have finally given up. Maybe ‘25 will be an improvement..
I haven't played yet but I'm going to hold out hope. I remember feeling like I couldn't get into the groove of the game during multiple yrs between 2015-2020.. Sometimes it would take me 12-14 days straight of not playing because of various issues.. Always by the end of the first month of purchase, I end up having fun. Seeing comments like yours does make me nervous though.. Should have forced line changes especially in 6s & 3s to combat low stamina.
Agreed. I've been playing this since the original in 1991. I can tell you that I always looked forward to the release of the next one and have seen first hand how far it has come. The community is the biggest group of crybabies on the internet. They whined so much that EA had to make drastic changes to the point that the game has kinda been ruined with this BS. Trying to make it more real, yet, there's 10 michigan attempts every game and guys skating around with their asses sticking out cuz it's the only way to hit now. This may be the first time I've been so disappointed that I kinda want to just keep playing 23.
@@ironlungs10 Spot-on! And in fact, I did go back to ‘23. So many great intentions and lots of creative thinking went into it….but the gameplay is untenable.
Thank you, very informative. I play casually so I don't need to be the very best, thus I'm playing with new controls and so far I really like them. I really like new hitting way and I do like vision passing despite it being a bit inconsistent and I do have to watch which button I have to click instead of doing it automatically based on where I am on the ice
They added the Murphy dump. The high puck flip out of the zone is something Larry Murphy would do every game when under pressure. This was back when he played for the Penguins.
I really need them to bring back hybrid controls. I’ve been in the game since NHL98 and have been every release. Those new players who use skill stick have no problem with it.
They should make it so that if you get body-checked while crouching down to do the Michigan that you get injured 100% of the time. That'll at least prevent people from using it when there's a defender near, because almost no player in the NHL could pull that shot off while being pursued. It mostly works when a player has time and space because the defense doesn't want to flush him out. Making it a one-click shot that scores most of the time leaves it as basically a cheat code, so they should really punish people for using it too much. I'm pretty sure there's never been an NHL game with 3+ Michigans scored.
My first year watching NHL & my first time playing the game. It’s been an interesting year been to 10+ NHL games. And NHL 24 has been great for my first experience playing.

it’s awkward at first you jus have to remember that B (I have an xbox) is to hit someone cause I have pressed B thinking line change and I took a few interference penalties cause of it.
Total control: simultaneously hop on one foot, tapping your head with one hand and rubbing your stomach with the other hand. Can't play until the hybrid controls are released. Not making it on release is the biggest stupidity of EA's new team...
Nasher... using the Hybrid controls for NHL 24, do I use the right hand stick and simply pull it down for face-offs? I have not won a face-off yet. Never had a problem with NHL 22 or 23. Please help, because losing face-offs in my own end is causing me to lose games. Thanks! (Any tips would help as well)
just made the switch from 94 control to skill stick. Is skill stick harder then total control? Am super confused with total control is it just an add on to skill stick or is it a whole new thing
@thenasher61 I absolutely hate it. I can’t play the $75 game at all. It’s frustrating. I’m just going to hold off until the hybrid controls come out at the end of the month. Can you let the people know when that happens?
What’s the point of pressing 2,3,4,5 buttons in perfect succession when you can just press a button? Hahaha it’s so unrewarding lmao idk why you’d feel good using these controls
I struggle with getting goals while I’m front of the net with rebounds you use to be able to hold LT and shoot but now LT does nothing and I keep getting penalties for hitting rather than shooting is there a way to shoot rather that hit in front of the net with traffic
I liked the hybrid in nhl 23 instead of the total control pass and shoot for playstation it would still be x pass and square for shoot but the decks like michigan will be triangle press and hold would be way better
Let me know any questions you have about the controls and I’ll try to answer it👇

just made the switch from 94 control to skill stick. Is skill stick harder then total control? Am super confused with total control is it just an add on to skill stick or is it a whole new thing
Do this but with skill stick
Thanks so much nasher that helped me so much😊
Dude I always push too hard when I’m going to shoot and accidentally do a fake shot 🤦🏻♂️
3:59 that’s dope
@thenasher61 I absolutely hate it. I can’t play the $75 game at all. It’s frustrating. I’m just going to hold off until the hybrid controls come out at the end of the month. Can you let the people know when that happens?
Great video, mad informative.
Total control sucks. All it does is eliminate the skill gap and turn every game of 3s into a Michigan-fest.
Thank you. It feels so cheap to be able to do all these advanced moves with one button. Such a shame
😂 2:26
It´s quiet tricky with theese controls, hope the hybrid controls will come back soon :)
How often do you click/hold speed boost while skating in the zone and how much do you glide?
im sticking with skill stick
What's shocking to me is that there is no hybrid control. I'll wait for a patch that will change this.
I want the 94 Controls back.... . I'm terrible wit the actual sticks😫😭😭😭😫😅😅🤦🏾
@@MrParis215me too
Backwards skating doesnt work always when you press L2 button. They fucked it up.
Awesome vid
This helps me so much
Literally the last NHL game I played was 2004 (which I used to play all the time)
