Unpunished challenges like Noble's eventually led to Eduardo and Ramsey getting bad leg breaks. It had become a weekly tactic to kick Arsenal with referees not recognising this but instead dished out reds everytime Arsenal players reacted to dangerous challenges
I'm 23 and I remember this season so well. It was one of the first I was properly engaged with back in primary school. I would have laughed I'm disbelief if you told me at the time we wouldn't win another League for at least another 14 years and end up finishing 8th twice in a row. Sad, sad days, looking back at times like these it's just a weird mixture of happy nostalgia but also bitter pain and regret. Oh what could have been
@@thebhoyfromarsenal1653 Im 20 and although i was 7 that season for some reason i remember it very well, particularly the 2-2 draw with utd, middlesborough 1-1 draw, birmingham 2-2, tottenham 1-3 arsenal and arsenal vs portsmouth for some reason. This was the first year i became engaged with football properly
Noble should of received a red for his tackle on Helb. Wenger complained about those sort of tackles from 04 and the FA did Jack. I can’t believe it’s taken until pep Guardiola to complain about the same thing in 2018
noble could'ce easily broken hleb's leg there. it's no surprise eduardo had his broken later on in the season, refs let them get away with horrible challenges
Fond memories of reading a L'Equipe interview with Van Persie (when he was still with Arsenal) in which he said one of his first memories at the club was trudging off after a training session, knackered, only to see Bergkamp heading back out onto the pitch to spend 45 minutes working on one-touch passing with his left foot. Must've made an impression. That first touch at 4:07 was Bergkamp-esque.
This was a season where I think the signs of Arsenal’s decline started - Wenger should never have given the captaincy to someone who was as emotional as Gallas, should have been given to Gilberto, and the way we collapsed after Eduardo’s injury was a sign of things to come in the next decade regarding Arsenal having a “weak mentality” during crucial points of the season
True, people forget how close we were to the 08-09 season too, were in the title race with about 8 games to go and completely collapsed. We really missed a reliable captain and leader those years, someone like prime sol would've been huge

it had already happened to Diaby too, in 2006 v sunderland.
Standards, still happens today. We used to kick other teams about but we don't anymore, thanks to Wenger not purchasing hard men.
I love all the players in this team on a personal level. Even players like Adebayor and Van Persie. They were such stalwarts of my childhood
03-09 is without a doubt the greatest premier league era… so far 😉
I’m 20 years old and this channel brings back so many memories of when we used to actually challenge and have a good team

after watching games back over the years teams just use to try and kick us off the park

just thinking the same
Van persie is so much more than just a goal scorer. Don’t think i’ve seen more intelligent striker than him.
Brilliant display from van Persie

Disgraceful tackle on Hleb
