I’ve been doing a few more first volume lately because it’s a lot easier to collect a series when they first start releasing but ooof it’s a dangerous game. But so far there’s only been one that I generally didn’t like so far. I have a 3 volume rule, I won’t quit something until I get three volumes in and I still don’t like it. Thanks for the recommendations. My dog is a death god looks hella interesting, I might take a chance on it.

I try to give a series 3 vols but sometimes a volume just isn’t my thing from the jump…yeah when you start getting too many first vols you end up having a lot of series to keep up on 😅 that’s definitely my problem…🤣

Hahaha love how you didn’t think you were going to enjoy it yet you gave it a 8!!! So glad you did! And I am writing you as we speak to talk more about the ship!!!! 🛳️
The dog one wasn’t even slightly interested in before… now I will pick it up once volume two games out cause I hate cliffhangers ugh 😑 especially when they can still continue it with the overall story why not at least wrap the shorter story up lol
Great video and thank you so much for the shout. And also taking my recommendation even though you didn’t think you were going to enjoy it. ❤

I'm not too into slice of life manga but I do want to read Maison Ikkoku! Although, it's also romance so it does make it a bit more interesting lol.

I need to finish reading it myself, I read the first volume way back when! Though first I’ll need to finish it collecting it…😅🤭

New Discovery to suggest: CUTIE AND THE BEAST by Azumi, FMC is 18 already and MMC is a wresler and we have age gap. I do like it so far, slow, and very logical

My I suggest SAKURA'S Dedication....🤔 or you suggested it to me...
It is so good. It does not drag and questions or provlem are talked 5 panel later. One trope so far: learning together but even that is not done alone but in the library... Believe is only 20 chapters long so like 5 volumes. I liked it. Pretty sure series will move in on my self.

I found it digitally! It looks really cute based on the covers and summary, and if it’s complete at 5 volumes I love a solid short series! Thanks for the recommendation 😊💕

Slice of life has never had much of an appeal to me either. My own life is often times mundane, I'd rather not read about the often mundane lives of fictional characters. It doesn't feel like an escape from reality more of a doubling down on it.😂 For the most part I feel like the characters have to be really interesting or really relatable for the genre to work. However, My Dog is a Death God sounds the most interesting to me out of these! It sounds like it's got a lot more going on than what I usually associate with slice of life! I'm a sucker for contemplative concepts and heavier tones! There's nothing wrong with a shallow story full of dopamine waves and serotonin baths but not much else, but the stories that stick out in my mind and I tend to enjoy the most are the ones with deeper, heavier concepts that are often reflective and/or ask tough, sometimes unanswerable questions. Where happy endings aren't a guarantee and sometimes the best you can hope for is the bittersweet. The concept of death, just in general, coupled with exploring the difficulty of letting go certainly meets all those criteria. I'd be interested to see how it approaches it! Besides My Dog is a Death God is one hell of a title! 🤣 That alone is enough to catch my attention!
That being said, I did start Saikano a couple of days ago, and one of the things that has really stood out to me so far is the way that it uses its slice of life elements to contrast and really highlight the war going on largely off page. It's an excellent example of presence through absence! There's very little hand holding (both figuratively and surprisingly literally considering romance is the driving force of the story😂) with a lot of subtle references and nuance to the downward spiral the rest of the country is facing. Like when Shuji just mentions that they no longer get news reports. That one little offhand remark casually delivered speaks volumes to how dire the situation actually is and the discrepancy between what the people of Hokkaido are experiencing and the rest of the country! I'm only part way through vol. 3 right now so perhaps that changes as the story progresses, but even if it does the setup is brilliant!

Yeah I totally get that about slice of life I always used to find them boring, but guess I’m ok with a little mundane in my life these days 🤣 but yeah My Dog is a Death God is definitely a different type of slice of life! Always enjoy looking at life (and death) in a more philosophical or introspective way too so yeah hope you enjoy it if you check it out!
Awww yay I’m glad to hear you’re enjoying Saikano! I definitely know what you’re talking about and that contrast was definitely what kept me engaged and the series left an impression on me bc of it!

I read the first volume of Yotsuba maybe 10 years ago or so and wasn't a huge fan of it because of Yotsuba.
She's just one of those child characters i find annoying. They are either a hit (Chinatsu from Flying Witch, Tsumugi from Sweetness & Lightning, Poco from Poco's Udon World) or a miss like Yotsuba ^^
I want to give the manga another chance at some point tho, just to see if i still feel the same about it :)

Yeah, I was never super interested but the cute covers wore me down 🤣 she is annoying but there were cute elements as well so I’m willing to just slowly read more of it at this point anyway!
