Hey Chris when you did the tail wheel mods with the push rods, I assume that you had to drill out the holes where the springs were? I have added Dubro 6" tires to mine an plan to do the tail wheel mod. It's real squirrelly on our paved runway. Thanks.
It depends on the wire size used. If it’s larger than the current hole, then yes needs to be drilled out. Just be careful when you do as the plastic is kind of brittle.
Hold off on the mod I may be doing a video on our mod adding a servo to the rear and getting the wires or rods off the flimsy rudder so it won’t break it.
Haha, I just laughed when I discovered it. They were actually in the fuselage when I put the wings on but never popped the hatch, so they just fell out and I had to buy another set, haha! Then the second set vibrated out and I had to buy a third set, doh! So, balance that prop… 🤣😊
Nice one wheel. Some unsolicited advice you're welcome to take or leave: add more forward pressure once you get a wheel on the ground. Your wheel isn't being planted to the runway firmly enough which is why you see a lot of drift and even the bounce in your stearman review one wheel landing as well. Keep at it!
Thanks for the input. My goal was not simply to lightly roll along the one wheel, not to drive it down along the ground hard or anything. Oh, and for what it’s worth the runway I’m flying from is far from flat, haha! It has a pretty large hump in the middle of it, so depending on which side of the centerline the airplane is, it’s better or worse. That doesn’t help. 🤣
@@Thercgeek Fair enough! Give the forward pressure a try sometime. I'm not talking about so much it flips the plane on its back - but just enough that it keeps the plane firmly on the runway and not at the mercy of any sideloads. It shouldn't be an issue where you're flying from. 🙂
I noticed you did not spend anytime on installing the light into the tail at the top. I having difficultly getting the light into the top . I guess I will try and drill out the space a bit to get the light into the housing.
@@Thercgeek Pushing the light into the socket, it will not snap into place. Inserting the LED (F) into the light housing (G) secure the tail light housing onto the edge of the rudder. Maybe it is not suppose to snap into place.

I bought a used tricycle one to try out , I have both old and new Z Cub’s ….this flys way better ….,got to aggressive with and planted it . Any thoughts on upping the prop pitch 1 or 2 ?

That’s a good question. I can’t say for certain since I haven’t done it, but I would think with the cg far enough back, it could probably be coaxed into it. That’s just a guess though.
Hey Chris, another question, how did you get the hub caps on the wheels? They have a bolt that screws into the axle, axle doesn't have threads, it's solid.
I own the original nose gear carbon Z Cessna. Great aircraft. My friend just bought the tail dragger version. The taxi test and first flights were terrible with the tail wheel design. He is a model builder from way back and soon after the maiden flights completely redesigned the tail wheel by adding a Hitec 225 mg servo under the fuse in the rear, complete eliminated the tail wheel stressing the rudder t to tying to steer. Added a much better tail wheel assembly and dual rods from the servo to the tail wheel assembly. It also with the tundra tires handled badly on our pavement runway. He purchased the wheel pant set and wheels from horizon for the trike version and added them. This bird is now as good or better handling than my original nose gear version and it looks great !!! I may with enough interest do a video for the conversions he did. I love mine now about 4 plus years old and his about 2 months or so old. I also have the flits for my nose version that came with it when I bought mine and it’s absolutely awesome on the water also. Thanks for posting.
All of the eflite bnf airplanes feature safe which provide auto leveling if desired. Otherwise, it has gyro stabilization when not using safe. The airplane flies quite easily and is a good candidate for learning on. The one drawback is the ground handling can be challenging due to the tail wheel design.

In the wind and full flaps I can fly mine backwards. It will fly slower than you can walk. If done right. I don’t have stabilization on my older PNP. I let new flyers fly it and no issues. My friend has the safe and got it on by accident and the plane scared me !!! The safe gyro mode makes it so easy but I call it cheating. This platform doesn’t need any added control other than the pilots.
Well, I swapped with the dubro 5.5” tires. I was going to go with kavans but they were out of stock on them at the time. So, can’t really say specifically to the installation. I’d expect it to be similar to the dubros.
I like this plane, sadly I have no space available to store it. I would change the prop to a apc of fiala, cause it sounds unbalanced and is probably to flexible.
The prop is pretty unbalanced out of the box, haha! Not too hard to balance with a prop balancer and some black paint. 😊 (I like to use spray paint and/or primers for adding counter weight when balancing props.)
I bought one of these. I had so many problems that I had to exchange it. The second one was also full of problems… servo failures, receiver failure and a host of other issues. I returned it for a full refund and bought the Flex C170 instead. Same price and INFINITELY better.

I did the wing bolt forget thingy too! Plane did fine, but oh the horror when I opened my tool box and discovered that oopsie!

It doesn’t snap into place. It simply pushes into the opening and then stays in place based on the plastic piece being glued onto the rudder.

It would probably do ok pitching it up a little, but not too much. I prefer the tricycle gear personally, it’s pretty fun.

I drilled a hole in the center of the cap so the bolt could go through.

Yeah, with the stock setup it’s pretty challenging on asphalt. I replaced the springs with pushrods (shown in the vid) and it helped considerably.

What push rods did you use for the tail wheel? Did you make your own or did you find some that were the right length without bending them?
I made them out of some 0.032” wire.
How long to setup at field
All that’s required to assemble le at the field is to install the wings. Takes only a couple minutes to do that.

What size kavan tires are they? Did the hardware work that was included?

How was the weight/CG difference with the balloon tires ?
The dubro balloon tires add like 12oz. 😬 If you can get the kavan tires, they’re about half the weight or better I think compared to the dubros.

That would be pretty neat. Probably would require carving a whole new vertical tail.
Probably would be easier to do a Bird Dog if you started with a Flex 170.
