Thanks Mark! This is it. This is the video that every beginner has to watch. Keeping the ISO at 100 while using an ND filter to control exposure makes so much sense (instead of using auto ISO). Guess you only leave that in auto when the weather is highly variable and the lighting is constantly shifting.
Dougie is STILL the goat. In fact, I'm 4 lenses deep now and my Dougie has seent video, studio work, outdoors and urban trekking. A small but effective lighting rig has grown around him and he continues to shine. He also has helped with the rabbit hole of calm time when diving into an old hobby. Oh my god. I've had my SONY EV-10 since December and I have been trying to get stable videos with my Zhiyun Crane m3. What has been challenging for me is the shaky videos when I am moving. Excellent video mark! Quick question. On your "advanced mode" you use. Analyst browse but had your shutter at 1/50. Did catalyst do okay stabilizers this? I thought 1/200 was the golden rule for catalyst?
That 11mm has been on my wishlist since it came out... I had so many other items that I needed to upgrade before I could get to it, but finally I'm saving my cash up. Side note, I grabbed the SmallRig video tripod (based off your review) and it has been excellent!

I subscribed and up to now I've just been liking posts, and leaving smart alecky comments to help boost, and absorbing as much information as I can. I've seen your comparisons to weather sealed cameras, but am wondering if there is any way to weather seal the ZV-E10? Or is recording snowfall or a windy Kansas day just a no-go with the ZV-E10? Forgive this probably basic question. I am learning, though. In the beginning all camera speak sounded like "Oogle nooble spargle farb!"

Great video as always Mark! Thanks to you, I have this exact setup (minus the Lav mic) and it's wonderful. I have found that switching the Priority mode in AWB to "White" produces a more accurate white balance than "Standard" priority in tough lighting situations. Before I made that change, some of my footage that was unfixable and had me questioning why the Leeming Lut wasn't working for me. Standard worked great outdoors and with professional lights, but when I shot a short cooking video in my kitchen it was way off until I made that one change. I believe the setting only effects how the AWB works in low light situations.

But for real, this setup is really cool and compact for going outside and to record vlogging type videos. Went out with that setup yesterday to film some vlogging segments for my next POV video and it scarred the shit out of me, although I was in the middle of nowhere with no people around :D. I will do the Ninja V soon hopefully - but you can't shoot raw with the ZV-E10. The footage will be the same as the internal recording. It will be in ProRes - but that won't change anything.
Great video again. Would love to see this up against the R10 in a head to head. I had the Sony zv1 and loved it so I went to the canon r10 but may be regretting it after seeing this lol

Hey Mark, I suggest you also mention Feiyu tech gimbals, btw you used to review SCORP mini. I personally have zv-e10 and used it successfully with SCORP-C with sigma 16mm. Also want to try with my other setup a74 & tamron 28-75mm it when I have occasion. Cheers
This is true - I could have definitely thrown in the Scorp Mini as it holds a lot of the combos I suggested I prefer balancing the Zhiyun and DJI though
Hey Mark, recent ZV-E10 owner, thanks for your videos! I just came across a most annoying fault that seems to be common to alfa cameras (?) when you're in memory recall mode you cannot custom re-set the WB! - so imagine you use the (convenient) memory settings to your video shoot liking, then you recall the settings and at that point you have no way to custom set the WB - you can't even go out of this state set the WB and go back - it keeps loading the previously set WB from when you saved the settings to memory - you'll have to do ALL the settings from scratch (not from a recall setting state) and then save it including the custom WB, and then of course you're stuck with that. Pretty disappointing, and to hear this is an alfa series (or sony) issue?
Yes, this is a Sony issue on other cameras as well. Probably the best thing to do is set your custom white balance, note the kelvin (example 5900k) and then when you switch to your custom mode set the appropriate kelvin. It’s a really annoying thing.
Hello. I just bought the zv-e10. My plan is to travel around the world to film different things. So the question is, which lenses should I buy and bring on the trip? the plan is to film cities, competitions and things like festivals. 2-3 different lenses. Thanks for the help
If you're going to record video (primarily on a tripod), do you recommend the ttartisan 50mm f0 95? Gonna be getting the camera next week, but I need a 50mm lens.
a couple of things to remember is that you have to manually focus that TTartisan lens and the 50mm on an aps-c will look like a 75mm in full frame terms. So you're going to have to set the camera pretty far away from the subject (maybe 12 feet). if you want close to an actual 50 field of view with great autofocus, go with the Sigma 30mm f1.4 amzn.to/3EW6sCx

Haha as always great punch lines! 😂 I have the exact same setup and the rolling shutter is a huge let down when vlogging. I never knew what rolling shutter was until I used Sony ZV-E10 😅 (I used to have Sony A7C)

If I was to shoot a film like Whiplash that was purposefully orange, or matrix that's a Lil more green/blue, would I still set the white balance to the "normal" settings, or would I purposefully set it a little warmer/colder so I don't need to correct it too much in post?
it depends on how far away you are from the subject. the 30 is best for street photography and video that is about 10 feet away. the sigma 16 is better for wide shot photography and video from about 4 feet away from the camera

So I've been filming in theme parks lately, with the Sony ZV-E10. I keep coming back to you for advice, so figured I'd do it again. We got home from a weekend of filming, and realized, the parks are SO LOUD, and it drowns out my wifes voice when trying to film quite a bit. We are using a Deity VMic D4, and it works well most of the time, but in loud areas it's really difficult. Should we just search for better places to film in the park, or do you think there is a microphone that could solve this problem? Edit: We do have a Hollyland Mic, like the one showed in the video, being delivered later this week. Maybe that's the solution we've been looking for.

I try catalyst browse and he very, very much it cuts the image for me to be at least a little stabilized. I don't know what I'm doing wrong :( And your footage is very smooth in 4k 25fps. And mine lag
So I have an a6000 and probably have reached the limits of it. I do videos with a friend of mine and he has the a6300 which I used and it's just so much better. So I was thinking about getting a ZVE-10 since it's even better and I can keep my lenses too. However, I'm not sure if it's too soon. Or if maybe I should wait another year for sony to update their apsc lineup. I have a lot of friends that praise 10bit and that's a most on the a6XX lineup refresh. So what do you think?
the new apsc line will have 10-bit, I am sure, but I don’t know when they’ll be announced and they will likely be at least 1k usd. if you want a camera with great 4K and autofocus now for a good price, the zv-e10 is the way to go

I don’t really shoot real-estate - but the settings you need are - f4 or higher to get more in focus (you should probably manually focus as well). get a small gimbal, set your iso to 100 shoot 24 or 25 fps, shutter 1/50. Use Cine2 with LeemingLUT or keep it simple and use ppoff. set your white balance to daylight if shooting in sunlight.
I really wanted this camera, but in Japan, they're all Japanese only. Importing would've been a pain in the ass too. I ended up with the Z30, but the sony seems like it has way more lenses

When it comes to walking vlogs, i just use my iphone 13 mini. The quality is good enough for social media and it’s small and lightweight. My arm will break if i use my zv-e10 and Sigma 16mm.
the canon R50 is a good competitor, but it has no lenses at all that you can use unless you adapt EF glass. the Nikon z30 is excellent, but it overheats in 4K after 25mins
hey mark i doubt you’ll see this but if you do could you do the cannon r8 vs the lumix s5ii i’m currently stuck between the two id like yo do sports photography and videos but also start making short films soon
The lumix will be much better for short films because of the features - but both will be great. Canon's autofocus in photos will be nice though. two card slots, better battery life, full mechancial shutter, way better video features - the lumix is the better value - and has more affordable lenses. But the canon will be great too.
HEY.Thanks for everything u post about Sony ZVe10 Camera, from your review I brought a sony Zve10 camera with a kit lens. However, i am facing a problem with the display of this camera. I have set all default settings including Picture profile OFF. However, I am getting a reddish cum orange tint on the screen display also white part of the scene is overexposed therefore I am not able to judge the exposure and color balance on the screen unless I have to connect my iPhone wirelessly to the camera to see the actual exposure. since I am also using Fujifilm Xt30 so the difference is notable. Is the same issue with your camera or my camera is faulty? I think the camera is not properly color-calibrated with the factory setting .Please help.
It's hard for me to say without seeing, but I use zebras for exposure. make sure you have your screen set to manual mode and not sunny weather - and it will look less blown out. I would take it in to a camera store and ask someone there to take a look
Have you ever shot something in rain with the camera? I'm going to Iceland soon and seems like it'd be quite rainy unfortunately (which is typical for the country but anyway, i was hoping to be lucky). I wonder how much can the camera take considering it's not weather sealed. I really don't wanna put in a plastic bag and shoot like that, but if that's my only option so be it. It would look so "professional" 😂😂
I wouldn’t trust it in much rain - maybe you could look at the a6400 which has better weathersealing. Anyway - I have hard cameras not weather sealed in rain before, and I haven’t had any issues. I just keep the hot shoe cover on and try to keep it dry whenever I can. salt water will kill your camera, but light rain should be ok if you don’t go crazy. but of course, it’s always a risk
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I already got the zv-e10 because it seemed better and I hate the micro usb port with passion and I'm glad I don't have to use it's s.. cables that always break in 3 months (for the past 4 years I'm still yet to break a type c cable). If you're not moving quickly, you can really keep your shutter speed the same. You only need to up it with fast motion

viltrox will be fine for b-roll - it’s still not heavy, just heavier than the small lenses like the 11.

you just screw it right on to the end of the lens. you spin it left or right to make it darker or lighter 👍

I will do the Ninja V soon hopefully - but you can't shoot raw with the ZV-E10. The footage will be the same as the internal recording. It will be in ProRes - but that won't change anything.

I personally have zv-e10 and used it successfully with SCORP-C with sigma 16mm. Also want to try with my other setup a74 & tamron 28-75mm it when I have occasion. Cheers
This is true - I could have definitely thrown in the Scorp Mini as it holds a lot of the combos I suggested I prefer balancing the Zhiyun and DJI though
Hey Mark, recent ZV-E10 owner, thanks for your videos! I just came across a most annoying fault that seems to be common to alfa cameras (?) when you're in memory recall mode you cannot custom re-set the WB! - so imagine you use the (convenient) memory settings to your video shoot liking, then you recall the settings and at that point you have no way to custom set the WB - you can't even go out of this state set the WB and go back - it keeps loading the previously set WB from when you saved the settings to memory - you'll have to do ALL the settings from scratch (not from a recall setting state) and then save it including the custom WB, and then of course you're stuck with that. Pretty disappointing, and to hear this is an alfa series (or sony) issue?
Yes, this is a Sony issue on other cameras as well. Probably the best thing to do is set your custom white balance, note the kelvin (example 5900k) and then when you switch to your custom mode set the appropriate kelvin. It’s a really annoying thing.

Hello. I just bought the zv-e10. My plan is to travel around the world to film different things. So the question is, which lenses should I buy and bring on the trip? the plan is to film cities, competitions and things like festivals. 2-3 different lenses. Thanks for the help
Maybe a lens with a maximum aperture of F1.4 to F1.8 in case you are ever in a situation with low light, but you need to film.
If you're going to record video (primarily on a tripod), do you recommend the ttartisan 50mm f0 95? Gonna be getting the camera next week, but I need a 50mm lens.
a couple of things to remember is that you have to manually focus that TTartisan lens and the 50mm on an aps-c will look like a 75mm in full frame terms. So you're going to have to set the camera pretty far away from the subject (maybe 12 feet). if you want close to an actual 50 field of view with great autofocus, go with the Sigma 30mm f1.4 amzn.to/3EW6sCx

The camera is great in lowlight. Use ppoff or cine2 profile. For lights, look at the Zhiyun M40 - crazy powerful but small.

it depends on how far away you are from the subject. the 30 is best for street photography and video that is about 10 feet away. the sigma 16 is better for wide shot photography and video from about 4 feet away from the camera

So I've been filming in theme parks lately, with the Sony ZV-E10. I keep coming back to you for advice, so figured I'd do it again. We got home from a weekend of filming, and realized, the parks are SO LOUD, and it drowns out my wifes voice when trying to film quite a bit. We are using a Deity VMic D4, and it works well most of the time, but in loud areas it's really difficult. Should we just search for better places to film in the park, or do you think there is a microphone that could solve this problem?
Edit: We do have a Hollyland Mic, like the one showed in the video, being delivered later this week. Maybe that's the solution we've been looking for.

I’m new to cameras, What lens and adapter could I use to get a similar shot as the 11mm on the Canon R7, is the R7 kit lens sufficient as a “talking head video” lens? I might just need to get a Sony at this point, the ZVE10 looks great and at a great price.
you can get the canon ef to rf adapter and then get the 10-18 f4.5 to 5.6. not ideal with that f4.5 - but doable.

I try catalyst browse and he very, very much it cuts the image for me to be at least a little stabilized. I don't know what I'm doing wrong :( And your footage is very smooth in 4k 25fps. And mine lag
So I have an a6000 and probably have reached the limits of it. I do videos with a friend of mine and he has the a6300 which I used and it's just so much better. So I was thinking about getting a ZVE-10 since it's even better and I can keep my lenses too. However, I'm not sure if it's too soon. Or if maybe I should wait another year for sony to update their apsc lineup. I have a lot of friends that praise 10bit and that's a most on the a6XX lineup refresh. So what do you think?
the new apsc line will have 10-bit, I am sure, but I don’t know when they’ll be announced and they will likely be at least 1k usd. if you want a camera with great 4K and autofocus now for a good price, the zv-e10 is the way to go

I have bought this lens by your advice it's request to make a video about setting of Sony ZV-E10 and 11mm lens to shoot real estate video.
I don’t really shoot real-estate - but the settings you need are - f4 or higher to get more in focus (you should probably manually focus as well). get a small gimbal, set your iso to 100 shoot 24 or 25 fps, shutter 1/50. Use Cine2 with LeemingLUT or keep it simple and use ppoff. set your white balance to daylight if shooting in sunlight.

I really wanted this camera, but in Japan, they're all Japanese only. Importing would've been a pain in the ass too. I ended up with the Z30, but the sony seems like it has way more lenses
it does have more lenses, but the Viltrox 13 is amazing. I have it for the z30.

When it comes to walking vlogs, i just use my iphone 13 mini. The quality is good enough for social media and it’s small and lightweight. My arm will break if i use my zv-e10 and Sigma 16mm.

the canon R50 is a good competitor, but it has no lenses at all that you can use unless you adapt EF glass. the Nikon z30 is excellent, but it overheats in 4K after 25mins

The lumix will be much better for short films because of the features - but both will be great. Canon's autofocus in photos will be nice though. two card slots, better battery life, full mechancial shutter, way better video features - the lumix is the better value - and has more affordable lenses. But the canon will be great too.

HEY.Thanks for everything u post about Sony ZVe10 Camera, from your review I brought a sony Zve10 camera with a kit lens. However, i am facing a problem with the display of this camera. I have set all default settings including Picture profile OFF. However, I am getting a reddish cum orange tint on the screen display also white part of the scene is overexposed therefore I am not able to judge the exposure and color balance on the screen unless I have to connect my iPhone wirelessly to the camera to see the actual exposure. since I am also using Fujifilm Xt30 so the difference is notable. Is the same issue with your camera or my camera is faulty? I think the camera is not properly color-calibrated with the factory setting .Please help.
It's hard for me to say without seeing, but I use zebras for exposure. make sure you have your screen set to manual mode and not sunny weather - and it will look less blown out. I would take it in to a camera store and ask someone there to take a look

Have you ever shot something in rain with the camera? I'm going to Iceland soon and seems like it'd be quite rainy unfortunately (which is typical for the country but anyway, i was hoping to be lucky). I wonder how much can the camera take considering it's not weather sealed. I really don't wanna put in a plastic bag and shoot like that, but if that's my only option so be it. It would look so "professional" 😂😂
I wouldn’t trust it in much rain - maybe you could look at the a6400 which has better weathersealing. Anyway - I have hard cameras not weather sealed in rain before, and I haven’t had any issues. I just keep the hot shoe cover on and try to keep it dry whenever I can. salt water will kill your camera, but light rain should be ok if you don’t go crazy. but of course, it’s always a risk
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I already got the zv-e10 because it seemed better and I hate the micro usb port with passion and I'm glad I don't have to use it's s.. cables that always break in 3 months (for the past 4 years I'm still yet to break a type c cable).
