  • In this video, Simms G3 Guide Waders Review: After 60+ Trips, What Is the Difference New and Old?, Hobie-Wan Kenobi talks about his experience so far with the 2022 G3 Waders and compares the differences between the previous and new versions of the G3 Waders.
    My experience with the new version of the Simms G3 Guide Waders has been mostly positive. The breathability and comfort have been increased from the previous version. The fit is more relaxed than the previous version and sizing could change slightly depending on how you fit the previous versions. I suggest going to a local shop and to try them on. Not only do you get to handle the physical product, the price is pretty much the same anywhere you look.

    I don't wear waders, not in the market for waders, but I appreciate an actual review where the reviewer put the product through its paces - so many reviews on fishing gear are just glorified unboxings. Bravo!

      Thanks for the comment. Yeah, I get frustrated when trying to find info on a product just to be an ASMR type video 😂. I knew waiting to make this review would result in less views but, I would rather put out a complete review that helps the viewers versus blasting out content at the release just for clicks.

      @@HobieWanKenobi Exactly. It'll be 2024 before I put out a review of the 22 Stella lol...but we have standards to uphold :)

      😂 I suppose so. That's quite a gap for a review for the Stella. Maybe some updates here and there before the new one comes out 😂

      I haven't seen any videos comparing the different versions so, I decided it could be beneficial.

    I use two pair of waders….for stream fishing a chest wader (stocking foot, breathable, Vision Koski) and for my float tube a hip wader (stocking foot, breathable, Kinetic). I made the experience that all breathable waders will fail over time so I avoid investing too much.

      I could probably get away with wading pants instead of chest waders most time. I usually fish more shallow waters. I know people who have used the same pair of waders for over 7 years with heavy use. If these waders can survive the abuse I put the previous version through, I will be happy.

    This is the first video I have seen that actually explains real world experience with these waders. I been thinking about upgrading my waders. Do you feel the new ones are worth the upgrade?

    • @HobieWanKenobi
      @HobieWanKenobi  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you have the previous model and they are in good shape, I would hold off on upgrading. There is a noticeable difference between the two but, not enough to upgrade unless the more relaxed fit is something you are looking for.

    Thanks for this great review. I am looking to replace my Simms tributary waders with something a bit more rugged. I am also thinking about upgrading my rod, so I have a limited pool of funds to spend from. Do you think it's worth getting the G3s and a middle of the road rod ($5-600) or get the Simms Freestones and use the extra funds on a fancier rod? I'm only fishing about 30+ days a year, so not sure if it's worth getting gortex waders.

    • @HobieWanKenobi
      @HobieWanKenobi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Goretex makes a noticable difference with breathability. The lower material is also more durable in the G3 than the Tributary. Depending on your needs, seems like your middle of the rod is quite a bit higher budget than most 😂. The laws of diminishing returns would definitely impact the rod choice more than the waders in this situation.

      @@HobieWanKenobi yeah, that makes sense. I’m going to take your advice on that. guess I should have specified it’s a fly rod and am hoping to get a US made one. $500 is basically the basement for a US made rod. Good thing they come with a lifetime warranty for that much. 😬
