    Hey folks, Scott from the video here, We should clarify that if the wader falls under the less-than-one- year old category, and you have a seam related problem, It's best to send the wader to Simms for a proper repair of the SEAM...putting a bunch of aqua seal on it makes future seam repair impossible and voids the warranty for that reason...
    Cheers!

      Anglerworks ... good luck with that. They will just return it and slow walk it until it’s out of warranty.

    oooh perfect timing! My simms G3s are starting to leak on the inside seams. I cant complain though. I've had them for 4 years and I bushwack and fish suuuper hard in them.

    Was there anything else in the spray bottle other than isopropyl alcohol? Such as water?

  • @Sheisty25

    If your waders are out of warranty, it's perfectly fine to use aqua seal on the seams. Some folks actually do it as a preventative measure on cheaper waders.

    Funny thing, I know this video is around 5 years old and as I sit here reading all the bad reviews on G3 waders in 2023, I'm shaking my head. I can't remember exactly when bought mine but it was probably in the 2010 range. That puts mine in the 13 year old category and they're as water tight as the day I got them. I've fallen walking through the bush, tripped on rocks and landed on my knees and they're fine. Did I get one of the older pairs when they were better quality? Simms G3s have been the best I've ever used.

    Interesting that you advise against using a dryer for waders. Would this hold true for Simms/ Goretex wading jackets as well?

    • @TheUliwon
      @TheUliwon ปีที่แล้ว

      The risk is the heat settings on the dryer can lift the waterproof seam tape.

  • @jp410
    @jp410 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for this helpful video. Goretex was mentioned a lot. But what about the "4-layer Toray QuadraLam fabric" that Simms uses. Do all the same processes apply, or is care different? Thanks.

    • @Anglerworks
      @Anglerworks 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, Toray doesn’t react the same
      to alcohol. Neither does any other brand of breathable fabric

    If you fail to loosen your wader belt when you bend to your knees, won't the pressure sometimes cause wader damage?

    • @FishingwithRod

      If your waders fit properly that shouldn't be an issue.

    • @FishingwithRod

      I’m sure oil is no good to get on any fabric. This ethanol method is recommended by Simms for their waders.

    You never really discuss fixing the neoprene. That's where both pairs of my Simms waders leak. Especially on the seam between neoprene and gortex.

    • @Doc.Holiday
      @Doc.Holiday 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jerry Jewell ... exactly where mine leaked from day one! Simms wouldn’t fix them kept returning them. The third time I sent them in they said they were out of warranty. I should have filed small claims the first time they returned them.

  • @Doc.Holiday
    @Doc.Holiday 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My SIMM G4Zs have leaked since day one at the stocking foot / leg seam. I returned them twice and they stalled by saying they didn’t leak. I’ve been fly fishing for thirty years and I guess that I know when my ankles and feet are wet. It was stalling tactics now the third time I send them in they claim them to be out of warranty. It used to be Simms was worth the extra money because they were reputable. No longer the case.

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah that's unfortunate. I personally haven't had a bad experience with Simms. I've been very happy with my G3s for a couple of years now.

    • @Doc.Holiday
      @Doc.Holiday 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fishing with Rod ... Simms was my go to wader up to now. They always had great service. I talked them up at every camp fire. Something changed a couple two or three years ago. No more Simms for me.

    • @Anglerworks
      @Anglerworks 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simms tank tests your waders, they fill them full of water on a custom made table and angle the table to create a hydrostatic head of pressure, they then leave them there for 20 minutes to check for leaks. They do this at manufacture and at warranty test. I suggest you talk to your dealer or the Simms customer service manager if your claim is valid. Nobody is trying to end-run you on warranty.

    • @Doc.Holiday
      @Doc.Holiday 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anglerworks ... they did twice! I know when my waders leak. IM FRIGGING WET! Look across the TH-cam comments. Simms stocking foot to leg seam problems are everywhere. They know they have a problem and don’t stand by it.

    I've had my $120 Canadian Tire waders for 10+ years... Used the heck out of them.. still no leaks.. 👌 how much are the Simms g3's? 😂😂😂

    • @FishingwithRod
      @FishingwithRod  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use whatever you're comfortable with of course. At that price point, you're buying for a variety of features (comfort, cosmetic, brand name, performance....). There's no doubt that a pair of Simms G3 is a lot better than a pair of rubber or neoprene. The question comes down to, can you justify spending that price for them. For some people they can, while others cannot. :)

      Steve Evans ... yea, well, if you don’t know Robert then who are you to cast aspersions? I agree with his assessment. Simms used to be made for fishermen who fish instead of an office professional two week warriors. Now their focus is Gucci style clothing for the high dollar low ability guide along client. They used to make tools for fly fisherman instead of snowflake wan-a-bes. Their warranty service is non-existent.

    • @robertwhinnen5602

      Steve Evans dick head you know absolutely nowt! I am known for caring and maintenance of my gear. I fish with 70 years old reels, shoot quail with an immaculate 96 years old Dickson round action, shoot ducks with a likewise immaculate 91 years old Thomas Blanch gun. Drive an immaculate 4x4 with 500,000 + kilometres on the clock. I also have RM Williams boots that are 28 years old , finally I am married to the same woman for 50 years. So you Simms sycophant, shut your bloody mouth until you know of what you comment on!

      I've used Dan Baileys wader for years. Used them a long time. Did everything but wrestle grizzly bears in them. They just now started slowly leaking around the booty seams. Used Gorilla tape and covered the seams with Pliobond glue and expecting to get 10 more years out of em. Pliobond works good for patching holes etc. I don't use the Aqua Seal either.

    • @Doc.Holiday
      @Doc.Holiday 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Benjamin Holm... I second that!!! Their seams are not engineered well and their warranty is worthless. I think Simms started catering to the name dropping Gucci fashionable urban two week warriors instead of those who fish hard or fish for a living. The Gucci angler warranty isn’t up sometimes before they even use them and they paid three times what other waders cost. But hea, they think they are looking the part as they stumble across the gravel bar with all their Simms gizmos hanging off of them.
