Police became trapped after a fight broke out between them and protesters in Sha Tin MTR station. This incident followed an arrest in the station where the officers had used pepper spray on the crowd on the evening of September 7. It was the worst incident of violence as anti-government demonstrations entered their 14th consecutive weekend.

They were being threaten by police, and this was an warning that they would step on journalists freedom. We fought back with petitions and rallies. If the Hong Kong protester give up, what other freedom will be taken from them.
Imagine being a cop that actually supports the ideals of the protestors, but you still have to follow orders and subdue the protest.
This is already happening in Canada, but maybe more than just this.

@Bsbuster The police in Hong Kong are typically middle aged, and middle aged Chinese people are very nice(at least the ones I know and seen), and they won’t think about attacking one another unless they have to. Weapons might be used soon, but some people in mainland China is probably opposing the use of lethal weapons. If they do the protest would end a long time ago.

Fugitive Offenders Ordinance between Hong Kong and Mainland China, Taiwan. Anti-CCP people worried about CCP may use Fugitive Offenders Ordinance to arrest them to Mainland China. In 23 October 2019, Chief Executive Carrie Lam announced the withdrawal of the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance. However, protesters use another "reason" to keep protesting, destroying Hong Kong. That reason was “Five demands, not one less". One of the demand is Withdrawal of Fugitive Offenders Ordinance which was already finished. The last four demands are Withdrawal of "riot" characterization, repeal all charges against demonstrators, establish an independent investigation committee to thoroughly investigate the abuse of power by the police force and immediately implement "True Dual Universal Suffrage". These demands will only deprive Hong Kong of the rule of law because those who break the law will not be held accountable and their real goal is Hong Kong independence.
