This was music. Written under the umbrella of the cold war. No mobile phones, no internet. Listen to whole Floyd albums. Music of the people my man. never been bettered
Not true. Sid walked in on them playing this song. But they didn't recognize him because he looked homeless. But i get why you commented this. Everybody thinks its true because of rumors. Just wanna help
The one good thing my dad did was have great taste in music. I grew up with PF, The Beatles, ACDC, Tom Petty, etc. Music is what matters. Peace yall. Never stop dancing.
In memory of those loved ones that couldn't be at our wedding, the guitarist/floutist played the musical version of this prior to the wedding party walking down the aisle. Very memorable moment!!!
"Did you exchange a walk-on part in a war for a lead role in a cage?" is a question everyone should ask themselves. Fight the good fight and make a difference, no matter how small it may seem.
If you ever get around to doing ENTIRE albums, This one and Floyd's Dark side of the moon album are great to hear in order. The songs are all related and all flow one into another without spacing.
you know in the middle, when the singing gets really quiet, the music, too,,,,do you know what is said?? "if you hear someone whispering, you are dying....." whooooaaa....spooky!!
This was recorded at a time when they only used 8-track recording system. You can here him clear his voice in the begin. And they just left it in because of cutting/editing.
i love you man! I love to watch you and see your reaccions when you listen to the music that I love more true all the years of my life!! Gracias amigo!
I am following you to see your reactions. I am loving living vicariously through remembering the first time I heard a lot of these songs... Jolene, wish you were here, Led Zeppelin. I too just heard a lot of these for the first time in my adult life, growing up on motown and 80s pop (insane mix). I have one for you... Aerosmith Dream On.
Your reactions are great mate, from Australia 🇦🇺 👍 I'm 41 and been listening to Pink Floyd since I was 14. They were way ahead of their time. Love and Respect my American friend ❤️
the great thing about pink floyd is they do their own thing, & dont give a F if anybody likes it or not.fortunately many millions of us find it brilliant.
The best of the lot. I could listen to the vocals alone or the guitar alone. First time I heard it I was as pissed as a parrot and whacked as a badger and two mates played and sung it beside the fire. And I'm sure it didn't but I recall it sounding as good as this....
Hi Nathan! Not sure if you’ll see this old comment, but I wanted to contextualize the intro and how a lot of meaning in this song is missed if you aren’t aware of it! Syd Barrett was one of Pink Floyd’s founding members. Like many bands of this time/genre, drugs heavily influenced their style of writing and performance. Unfortunately, Syd had become such a heavy drug user that he literally started to lose his mind. There’s a famous story of him being so out of it that in a concert he literally started to play a different song from the rest of the band without realizing. Pink Floyd ultimately and reluctantly “kicked” him from the band because he meant so much to them, and so he could get the help he so desperately needed. These events actually became a recurring inspiration for future Pink Floyd songs and albums. The song Brain Damage even references the wrong song incident directly - “and if the band you’re in starts playing different tunes”. Pink Floyd would go on to be one of the biggest and most successful rock bands of all time, but Syd was not able to enjoy that success with his fellow band members, and that was devastating to them. So as for the intro, you may notice that the guitar initially sounds distant/filtered. This is done very specifically. Following Syd’s journey through rehabilitation, he became a recluse - rarely seen ever again. You may also notice a cough and a sniff before the acoustic guitar comes in. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE SYD LISTENING TO HIS FORMER BAND’S SONG ON THE RADIO WHILE HE LISTENS IN SECLUSION. He picks up his acoustic guitar, and plays along with his friends, longing and nostalgic for the days when they were all together. And the band themselves also show this longing is reciprocated. “Wish You Were Here”. The “You” here is SYD BARRETT. They wish he was there with them enjoying their highly success careers, making incredible music. And he too wishes he was there with them. But it cannot be, and so they are both left in a somber and unfulfilled state. This is just one of many examples of the incredible songwriting and productions depths that Pink Floyd is known for. Truly one of the greatest music acts of all time.
Not sure if your digging in to Pink Floyd is finished, BUT, if it is, I highly recommend you at least check out 2 more- Shine on You Crazy Diamond and Dogs- I think you would love both of them.
the line "Did you exchange a walk on part in a war, for a lead role in a cage" refers to young men during Vietnam being given the choice of war or jail
Hello, we are a kids family band from New Zealand and we do a lot of classic rock covers.. We hope you might like to see a Pink Floyd one we have done of 'Hey You' by Pink Floyd. We reckon it’s a really cool Pink Floyd song! Thanks :)

This is a brilliant song that was written about Sid Barrett in memory of what he meant to the band
Not true. Sid walked in on them playing this song. But they didn't recognize him because he looked homeless. But i get why you commented this. Everybody thinks its true because of rumors. Just wanna help
