Crystal, I'm a veteran crocheted, been doing it for years, and have never seen it done quite the way you do granny squares. I've made plenty of them over the years and noticed the "lean" some specific methods do. It looks not right, like off or something to me. Many of my granny squares have had that lean and I've searched for ways to eliminate that, watched tutorials of different methods to keep the lean from happening and as yet haven't seen any that totally do. But yours is the best and easiest one I've seen yet, you are so precise and detailed in your video instructions that you make it super easy to understand what to do. I've been watching your videos for a few years now and really get a lot out if them. So thank you, from this 65 year old lady. God bless! ❤😊

I’ve noticed in your tutorials that you make an effort to encourage your viewers to stop and study the crochet work as they go. You point out how it should look, where the repeats are, etc. As crocheters become more proficient, being able to “read” the crochet fabric can really step up your game allowing you to cross over from following others’ patterns to designing your own. Kudos to you, Crystal, for teaching your viewers how to “read” crochet.

This has been the best tutorial I’ve found on a granny square so far. I finally understand that people are bringing the hook in and then out of the hole in the circle, not just jabbing it through and continuing. I watched other tutorials that completely skimmed over that and I’m sure it’s intuitive to them but it’s confusing when you’re new! I feel like I can actually do this! THANK YOU!!!!!!! You’re the best!!!

It's wonderful that you do the very basic stitches right from the beginning, as well as making a whole item from that same stitch. You're just the best teacher for beginners and old pros alike. Thank you so much. A few years ago I worried about knitting and crocheting skills dying out completely, but thanks to dedicated teachers like you it's been saved! 💕💕💕

I have been watching many beginner crochet videos here on TH-cam to try to learn. However, this one has been the most helpful so far!! With the other videos, the person would always assume that the viewers knew what certain things were and would speed up portions of their videos, so I could not keep up. Thank you so much for showing viewers step-by-step how to do this!! I have officially made my first granny square! :)

Oh goodness Chrystal my old phone wouldn’t let me make a comment. I Believe i have been watching you for 5 years. I learn how to make so many hats and baby dresses and diaper covers. All I could make before was granny square. I’m now making blankets with a front and back post double crochet. I made my own pattern. Don’t think I can share. I’m 78 years old. Had to go in the hospital for 5 years every month for 2 days. I promoted your channel where ever I went. I’m trying to teach a daughter in law how to crochet with your help.

I just started practicing how to crochet 5 days ago ,and now ive finally made my first granny square. The other tutorials were difficult , but this one was so easy!
I love how you always repeat the steps in each round because other tutorials just fast forward it and leave it for us to do it ourselves 😢.
I did get confused in the start but then i realized i had to adjust the square with my hands. And instead of sewing the ends, i cut them. Thankyou🥹

Unpopular opinion: never been much of a granny square fan, with the possible exception of some of the modern versions. But this year I am making a Boggy Creek blanket (well, one new one and one I didn’t finish last year!) and since I am such a slow crocheter I decided to contribute some granny squares as well. Don’t know why these have always been such a challenge for me. But this time, I’m gonna beat it. Your tutorial offers a slightly different technique that just makes sense to me. At last! The half-double for closing the round seems like - ta da! Now, my square is still a bit wonky (it’s a granny square because a granny is making it! 😅) but it’s definitely recognizable. So thanks, Crystal. You’ve done it again!

I'm still somewhat new at crocheting, and am still only on blankets, scarves, hats, and I have crochet Christmas ornaments. I will be trying a drawstring purse soon. Please continue to do your videos, both yarn hauls and creating with the yarn. It truly helps some of us. Your work is not in vain, it truly helps. I don't ask for anything, just want to let you know that you are appreciated. I know you don't respond to these comments, and I am perfectly fine with that and understand completely. Thank you Crystal for sharing this video as my daughter said that she'd like to learn to crochet over her summer break from university, I've taught her S/C and D/C so while she's away housesitting for a friend she can watch this and entertain herself. 😊 xxx

I'm new to crochet but have so far had no luck with Granny squares despite watching many tutorials. The minute you said 'slide the stitches a long' it all made sense and I could actually see the square coming together for the first time. Fine simple words that I don't recall anyone else saying have just unlocked Granny squares for me. I'll be trying again myself later 🤞

Thank you for this tutorial! I've been making granny squares for over 50 years and I always knew there had to be a way to make it seamless but I couldn't figure it out! I will be making them like this for now on. Thanks again!

My great grandma who I call granny is almost 90 (89) and when I was like 11 or 12 I asked her to teach me how to crochet cause I wanted to make cool things just like her. Well that that point she could only show me the single and a double because her hands couldn't do more then that without hurting her. Well just recently she lost her only child and been down on herself so I used your hat pattern and made her a hot pad and now I'm making her a granny square to try and cheer her up. She loves crochet but is sad she can't do it anymore so I thought why not with the help of your videos put a smile on my granny's fave even if it's for a few seconds. Thank you ❤

The very first thing I ever made in crochet was a granny square. A kind neighbor taught me how when I was about 6 years old and into EVERYTHING. She's long since passed on, but I think of her often when I'm crocheting. Miss Mary was a fantastic teacher.

Granny square was the first item my gramma taught me when I was 9 (MANY years ago). Love how you do it! Over the years I’ve done them different…almost like yours, but I don’t chain one after the corners and along the sides ☺️ thanks so much for sharing!
