Newly appointed U.S. Men's National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann was introduced by U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati at a press conference at NIKETOWN in New York City.
I was born in Costa Rica, but I've lived in the US since I was 9. It always felt like I was better then most kids, but colleges only looked at the kids that were born in the US. Every time I played I always scored, though I've been told this countless times, I never got the chance to go pro. I hope for Americans to realize that this country became great because people left their home land in order to become part of something greater and become a better person, our Soccer should reflect that!!!
Great press conference. He put to rest a lot of the concerns that I had about him as a coach. He seems well grounded and pretty well accustomed to US soccer.
@AchillesForce that makes sense, because the majority of the US national team was either born over seas and raised here. The Us doesn't discriminate anymore this isnt the 60-70's.
1 reason why I'm certain it will work is because you guys are dedicated to grow to the next level. You've achieved a lot last two decades, and we see more U.S. players in Europe. Klinsmann is a great guy with a lot of experience who can hopefully bring some success :D
I am impressed. I've seen Klinsman around in Orange, California. Not only does he live in the US, but he has been exposed to the diversity of both the people and the game. Glad he acknowledged the Hispanic/Latin influence; he must have been to a park in SoCal. Soccer culture from the park to college is complicated and hope Reyna and Klinsman can get some chemistry going.
there were 2 coaches for Germany in 2006 and Löw was the Man for the Tactic System But i think Jürgen has hopefully learned a lot ;) Klinsmann is a Motivator and good Scout
I like this guy even more after listening.. i can't get enough information. Why do international matches not happen every week lol.. so excited! I hope he grabs a ton of young players I want to see them learn young from a guy who knows his shit and then we reap the rewards for the next 3-4 world cups!
@11soccerchris You're right. I think in order to get better the MLS has to cancel the draft system so that the teams can build youth academys to develop young players just like we do in Europe
@ev8585 Klinsmann helped design a new player development and performance center for Bayern and then launched into molding the team for the Bundesliga and UEFA Champions League campaigns. Under his guidance, Bayern reached the quarter final of the Champions League, losing to eventual champion FC Barcelona. Bayern’s record during the 2008/2009 UEFA Champions League was 6 wins, 3 draws, and 1 loss (to Barcelona). Wikipedia wasnt really a total loss
@slugicide I think you are off topic. What you are talking about are fans. In addition to being a US fan, I'm also a Mexico fan. AchillesForce was referring to the lack of opportunity he had as a player in the US. There are players like Joe Corona and Jose Torres (MexAmericans) who more opportunity in Mexico to go pro than here. The college system and pay to play youth academies are set up for privileged kids. Even Clint Dempsey who grew up hard had his mom travel far for his academy practice.
@TheSleve22 look at there players most of the starters are playing in europe there mostly under 23 they have not gone far in the world cup but they have won the confederacion cup there in the top 10 teams in the world cup if u look at argentina they havent won anything in a long time unitl 2010 spain hadnt gone to the semi finals and they are still consider a great national teams
Good luck Juergen, you're going to need it. I have a feeling people will be calling for his head if we don't get a result against Mexico right out of the gates.
@slugicide As for the fan loyalty of Latino/MexicanAmericans, I have to say that a majority of US fans I had seen at the Gold Cup final in Pasadena were Latinos. I have a theory as to why Mexican Americans (even American born) love the Mexican team more than the US. It's partly because that's just the team they grew up loving. But I also think it's because many don't see "themselves" in the US team. The talent is here in the US, it just needs to be taped.
@bustin4545 he also never was close to the top of the table of the bundesliga during his time at bayern, and the team barely qualified for the champions league that season. For a team like Bayern, the class and standard of German Soccer, that is a horrendous position to be in. I will give him credit for his time as german national coach, although not being able to win a world cup on home soil with a talented squad, still doesn't speak volumes of his ability.
@zackboum they dont have to cancel the draft what they have to do is look at lower income players that dont get scouted that for the most part are better than the kids in the academy i no cause i would of been in they academy but i can pay
@BEASTOFNEWYORK brek shea didnt go to college after high school he went to england to play soccer. most players in america are in college meanwhile other countries like argentina brazil england teenagers are in the playing in the national team or in big clubs neymar 19 is wanted by huge clubs now even mexico has teenageres in chelsea liverpool this is not college myth this is reality that is why us soccer is not close to mexico or to any south american team not to mention europe
@AchillesForce lol, BS. Maybe it's because you had the mentality that you were "better than most kids." There are many foreign-born people who get into college and go pro in the US. Part of the quintessential American attitude is to not make excuses for yourself.
No matter what coach the US gets they will never be close to brazil argentina mexico or any other great national team until they really focused in the youth soccer players and get streets players and less of the college guys that are 22 and pretty much gave up soccer and will not be in any top European soccer team
you think just cause he was a great player he will make a great coach for the USMNT? He had success with Germany in 06 but much of that can attributed to Low. Non of you american soccer "fans" seem to remember his time as the head coach for Bayern Munich a few years ago. It was a complete and utter disaster and he was fired before the season ended. Jurgen is a good motivator not a great coach. Most of the worlds best managers/coaches were usually not the greatest players.
Gary from UK. Thrilled about Klinsmann, hope he can help US soccer go to next level. Can't wait to see US team take off! Big US soccer fan!
I was born in Costa Rica, but I've lived in the US since I was 9. It always felt like I was better then most kids, but colleges only looked at the kids that were born in the US. pretty excited about this new change. looking forward to the USA vs Costa Rica match, see you there!
Klisnman led germany in 2006 to the world cup, this man is a legend in germany
I am impressed. I've seen Klinsman around in Orange, California. Not only does he live in the US, but he has been exposed to the diversity of both the people and the game. Glad he acknowledged the Hispanic/Latin influence; he must have been to a park in SoCal. there were 2 coaches for Germany in 2006 and Löw was the Man for the Tactic System
But i think Jürgen has hopefully learned a lot ;)
Klinsmann is a Motivator and good Scout
Good job, Sunil. You have taken US soccer to the next level yourself. But no one was there to introduce you and say it. ;)
Good luck, Jurgen! Make our National team proud!
I'm excited for the men's team!
This is a great step. Now we just need the talent on the pitch
Im huge Germany soccer fan with men's team I just wonder if jurgen is going to make them play a similar style with US system or more like germany.
I like this guy even more after listening.. i can't get enough information. Why do international matches not happen every week lol.. so excited! @PosterAbortion how did he blow it with the german team except maybe(!) putting lehmann in the goal instead of kahn?
@11soccerchris You're right. I think in order to get better the MLS has to cancel the draft system so that the teams can build youth academys to develop young players just like we do in Europe
During the 2002 World Cup, the USMNT played a German-style of soccer. Maybe Jurgen Klinsmann can revive that.
i have his autograph!! :) what a legend...I'm glad he's the new coach but now this means I won't see him as much in so cali.
it was Low not Klinsmann that put Germany in the bronze place in 2006. Klinsmann was like a Maradona in Argentina, as a sympholic person.

3:2 germany vs brazil .. i think it also going well for US at this time
Kilinsmann!!!! You took my number!!!! :(

great coach
For assistant coaches hire Wolfgang Weber or Hermann Fasel both living in Tucson, AZ.
unlike most of the previous us coaches Jurgen isnt bald
every time the media said were they were from klinsmann laughs.
@gosox773 michael bradley is one of our best midfielders, and will still be playing under klinsmann

Sunil Gulati kinda looks like AJ Delagarza from the LA Galaxy to me lol
@gosox773 don't know why you're hating on michael, he deserved every minute he played....

Appetite comes with eating, the more we have ,the more we want. Can he do it...
Do you guys think he's going to make a difference?
Don't blow it like you did with the German National Team and Bayer.
@bustin4545 he also never was close to the top of the table of the bundesliga during his time at bayern, and the team barely qualified for the champions league that season. We need to fire Gulati before we start setting expectations for our program.

@s0ccer96 skip ir. or just watch it on espn3.com when u get home
@psufreshman10 amen!
Bob Bradley and Michael Bradley disliked the video!
Awkward pause for jersey photos...... And then he talks
@11soccerchris are you seriously saying mexico is a great soccer team...they have never been past the quarter finals...how is that a great team...
Kinsmann has disapointed me :( Germans for Germany!
@pua4lyfe44 who ever asked that question doesn't know soccer.
@AchillesForce lol, BS. Maybe it's because you had the mentality that you were "better than most kids." There are many foreign-born people who get into college and go pro in the US. Part of the quintessential American attitude is to not make excuses for yourself.
LOL 34:52 - Is this American team good enough to compete for a Final in the World Cup in 3 years?
No matter what coach the US gets they will never be close to brazil argentina mexico or any other great national team until they really focused in the youth soccer players and get streets players and less of the college guys that are 22 and pretty much gave up soccer and will not be in any top European soccer team
The White Obama for us soccer fans
Change we can believe in and turn against in 3 years.
