It's surprising that you say this because Pascal may be the most popular character in the game for Americans. But then again, a lot of the people that played this game game are into the anime style of the Tales series. Personally, I thought Pascal added a little spice to the otherwise cliche babbling of friendship and protecting that Asbel likes to heap onto the plot.
