While I agree w. your sentiment , it's irrelevant .. and un-achievable for virtually every band bcs Bar Kays were the best funk band in the land and it's kind of like saying Bruce Lee" set the bar " and trying ain't the problem , its the end result .
Their horn section was unmatched , Mr. Dodson lead singing unmatched and their longevity going from the band being destroyed in a plane crash with only 2 survivors playing over 30 years of hits and playing great music , for get bout it .
Only Bar Kays did it and only Bar Kay's could have done it .

That night was beyond description and a show that I am so thankful to have witnessed, OMG!
And we ended up stranded in SF riding the Muni buses all night because we missed the last BART Train back across the bay.....the concert ended so late!
It was a night for the ages!

And fronting the group after Otis... not small shoes to fill. Lets also send some love to Ben Cauley. A man of style, dignity with his priorities in order... family first.
i remember the barkays late 70s and 80s career. it was funk. they often opened for acts in nashviile. even rick james. they headlined a few time's

Yes indeed I remember when we had a block party, and I was dancing on top of the car, and was partying until the sunrise. Nobody got sleep until noon time. That Crown Royal was talking back then.
