This video was even more great to re-watch after just finishing this hike with my mom. We chose this spot, partly due to your review on AllTrails, which also brought us to your channel. We were supposed to do Nantahala but due to the recent Hurricane, this was the closest spot from where I live in NC that wasn't closed. This area definitely was affected from the storms as well, bit of an obstacle course in areas but greatly enjoyable! Was wondering why your distance total was 2.7 miles longer than mine but I believe its from you having to turn around and go retrieve your camera over and over. That extra work is definitely appreciated, great video and editing!
Makes me so happy that you found the video!! Love how ya'll did the same route together and then could look back by watching this. You definitely picked a good backup option. Didn't realize there would be hurricane damage all the way up in the Gorge. And yes, I always end up doing a couple extra miles because of walking back and forth to the camera. 😂 Appreciate you watching the video!! ♥
Thank you so very much for watching the video, Charlie! Nice to see your name pop up in the comments. ♥🥹 I attempt to do my best while I'm out there backpacking alone so I appreciate the kindness.
TH-cam suggested your channel. Had to click when I saw Red River Gorge. Grew up mashing around those mountains with my grandma and cousins. Brought back fond memories! Subscribed.
This is awesome to hear, Brook and Sara! Makes me so happy when new people find the channel. 😁 Hope you enjoyed the video. What a great place to grow up around. There is so many miles of forest to explore here it probably never got old haha! I will hopefully be heading back to Kentucky in the fall. Got some other big adventures -- with videos -- upcoming in the meantime.
Man thank you for this video. Have been looking for a new 2 night loop close-ish to home (Cleveland OH) and saw your comment on this loop on AllTrails. We go to Dolly Sods every year and are looking to change it up, and this scratches all the itches. Really great documentation of your adventure :) Where do you get the music for your videos?
@@armadillotail You’re so welcome! Thankful you found this channel and the video! You are going to love Red River Gorge! It has a Utah vibe to it with all the arches in the middle of nowhere. Dolly Sods is great too. I’m from West Virginia haha! I license my music from Epidemic. Fairly cheap + they consistently update the library. Great question! Can’t wait to get back to the Gorge in spring of 2025!
Hi Jamie. Great video. Now that you’ve been using the Nemo Hornet OSMO 2P tent for a while, how do you like it? I think you might have had the rain fly inside out, since the Nemo name logo was backwards, and the little Velcro tabs that secure the fly to the tent poles looked like the were on the outside.
Actually, camps are supposed to be 300' from any official trail. All of those spots that are closer are illegal. Of course, there are many unofficial trails, like to Hanson's Point, and people just camp where they want to.
Appreciate you watching the video, and I hope you enjoyed it. I also appreciate your attempt to correct me even though you didn't even make it through 16 percent of the video. You are correct, wild camps are supposed to be 300 feet away from any official trail, which I noted with an on screen graphic at the 9:15 mark. :)
@@JamieMcCracken Sorry. I skipped through the video and missed your clarifications. But, all people should read the Forest Service rules before they go. The rules are there for good reasons and I am sick and tired of seeing burnt over ridge tops and beautiful rock formations scarred for a thousand years by egotistical assholes carving into them. I've had to snuff out too many abandoned fires and seen far too much trash and destruction in the 50+ years I've been hiking there. This an irreplaceable, Eden-like forest and canyon that deserves at the very least respect and even reverence. It is a privilege to be there, not a right.
