As a British Merchant Mariner, this was my tune too.
My Father loved this march. He played with the RM band during WWII and after. R.I.P. Dad.
No Corps anywhere in the world comes within an arm's length of these guys and gals - they're in a class of their own!!!!
They are the best, the very best. As a 45 Commando I have marched to this many times, as did my father in WW2

As a "Matelot" for 35 years - this is my tune!!
I am proud to say that this very march was used as the portuguese Armed Forces Movement's theme song in 1974. The Movement was responsible for setting up the Carnation Revolution which deposed the 48 years-long dictatorship.

Been there having been a Royal Marine Commando , went to university after , but nothing is like them.

May I ask a question? Are Her Majesty's Royal Marine Band Service trained for armed combat? I have watched their boot camp introduction and their three years training before assignment to a band.
All are trained soldiers, yes. You can see some of the bandsmen wearing medals from conflicts such as Afghanistan and Iraq in this video.
The Band service are given basic military combat training such as how to use and maintain the current assault rifle, 1st aid training etc, and during my time as a Royal Marine they could be called upon for stretcher bearer duties. They are not required to train up to the level of attempting to pass the commando course.

Royal Marines musicians and buglers are fully trained and operational military personnel and they will usually perform supporting duties like medical support, driving ambulances and logistics.

What is the difference between royal navy and royal Marines
The Royal Navy are the men and women who crew Royal Navy vessels. The Royal Marines are an infantry unit under the command of the Royal Navy.
Just to clarify for the avoidance of confusion, the Royal Marines are a part of the Royal Navy. They are not a part of the Army.
They were founded more than 350 years ago and historically their roles included boarding enemy ships, helping to man the guns on their own ship, forming shore raiding parties and just about any other task that a body of well trained and resourceful soldiers might be called upon to do in naval warfare.
