Hendrix was basically living by the generosity of his fellow bandmates in that he had no money coming in for the beginning of his career. Wonder if he used what ever strings he could find when he broke one. Or two. Or three.
Most likely! Banjo strings, acoustic strings, who knows. Made magic with whatever he had though!
PS: The quick performance of 'Mary' was fire😎. Good on ya. Wish I sounded like you when I played one. LOL!!! RESPECTS!!
Ha! Thank you!
He played upside-down guitar, and he played it strung right-side up. Sounded great both ways.
Nice vocal performance, man.
Thank you. I appreciate that!
I used to date his secret... LOL!!! Cheers Tom!! Been a minute... Had some illness and workload from hell of late. Trying to run a campground with three people, including woods.... Tired and havent even picked up my axe lately, mate. Sadness... Anyhoo, its awesome to see you again and hang a minute. Hope life is good and successes plentiful Brother. Peace and Blessings, mate.
Great to hear from you! Hope life calms down a bit for you and you can pick up your guitar soon.
I've been using 10-38s since around 1995. I play in Eb standard as well. I don't know if it's good or not, but I'm pretty used to it at this point.
Hey, if a 6 was a 9, I don't mind.
Hendrix played a flipped restringed right handed strat. That guitar of yours just feels wrong.
Talk to Fender! They made it lol.
ACTUALLY the orientation of a reverse headstock allows for the strings high strings to have easier tension for bending and consequently the bass side having now a longer distance to tuner pegs now reacts more of what is on a bass scale of tension. So despite tuning to the same pitch the string distance has a dynamically different effect in playability which honestly “feels correct”….just sayin. Try it out and see for yourself
Oooof. Nice intro cover!
Ha! Thank you. Stay tuned for more. There'll be a new cover in each video!
No one mentions he tuned to E flat!
Tom, now this is the video where you could of bring your friends in as an expert from Nashville. I would of love to hear what they think. Thanks for the great video!
Scott from Stringjoy would be THE authority.
Hahaha love the aside! So good
It’s my favorite part to film lol
Hey Tom, maybe you can review this Jimi Hendrix guitar on your next video? Maybe you can share us your thoughts about it after years of owning the guitar, and maybe how it compares with your Silver Sky or your Vintera. Thanks!
This one was a demo from Zzounds.com! I really enjoyed it, though. The only thing I think they should have done differently is reverse the bridge like on the SRV Strat
Screw Eb tuning. Sorry, but it does nothing for me.
Me 2😅😂
It's debatable if the title of this post is click bait...
Interesting? Or INTERST-STRING?
Re-shooting this one to incorporate that
From what I recall... Hendrix basically prefered a "light" set... and I figure he most probably went with "stock" string gauge sets...
I know there seems to be a lot of stuff out here where he mixed and matched string gauges... but... I have to ask... where has all this so called "info" come from? I never heard him mention anything about it in an interview (and I think I've prob seen/heard all of them)...
Frankly, it seems this stuff is literally pulled directly out of someones ass... posted on the web... and it's taken as being real-deal information. However, I digress... I seem to remember from a 1975 edition of Guitar Player Magazine that Jimi had used .09s. Then when Randy Rhoads came out it was reported that he used 0.10s so I changed to 0.10, also. I remember they were harder to bend, but on the positive side they stayed in tune better. Which makes sense because Randy's playing wasnt the typical call an response phrasing from blues rock, rather it was more like rolling scales. Randy never really bent the high E string. It mainly was used for ascending and descending. Considering Jimi's outrageous bendings, a.09 sounds more logical. Granted an .08 is to thin and an .010 seems to heavy for bending the way he bent a note.
I think it had to do with swapping out the wound G which was standard at the time, then they'd use a banjo string for the high E, then they'd discard the low E whilst moving each string down one.
You actually sing much better than john mayer
We’ve got very different voices, but thank you.
You’re not a string scientist, but are you a doctor or a lawyer?
I’m so happy you understood what I was actually saying. And yes, I’m both of those.
His secret weapon was Acid
I can’t make a video on that, though lol
Hey, if a 6 was a 9, I don't mind.
Such a good lyric.
