Not what I expected from this video....then again, I'm pretty new to the process so I don't know what I expected. I thought you were wonderful at explaining the steps. Don't worry about rambling; I do it too sometimes. It seems you're bursting to let your thoughts out. Don't hold back. I appreciate the time you put into this. 😉
You're awesome! Thanks for the great tutorials! I'm just now getting started. Well, still in the research phase but purchased a hat block so I can turn back now. Love your videos! Thank you for your willingness to help others learn the trade.
Thank you for sharing I really want to start wearing hats however I have alot of hair which make my head larger than the average so I never can find a hat that fits my vibe or me. So I thought I should make one myself
Do you hat a video on using the wire? Outside of felting your own capelines, could you sew whatever fabric you like with a fedora hat pattern and shellac it as another way of making a fun fedora?
I'd be eternally grateful if you did a video on how to construct a lining for the cowboy style hats. There is no info anywhere and I've been struggling with this aspect. Thanks and I love your videos.
Where do you purchase the hats at ? I’m just getting started in this and struggling finding good hats. Do the hats come with the design or do you put the design on it yourself ? Thank you for posting the video 🥰 4:40
You can send me photo in email, I added it in the about page. lts usually it's steam and an iron but depending on how old it is and what material you want to be careful not to ruin it.
@@GreenBunnyHats could you possibly do an instruction on how to Make hat liners and sweatbands. Or do you know of a good tutorial. I have my hats made just trying to figure the lining part.
Hi! This tutorial is excellent. One question! Can you recommend a size for the hat brim puller? I was thinking it was just a standard size but in my research I am seeing I need to select a size. Do you have a suggestion for that?
Do you make all of your hats with 100 percent wool felt or can it be with polyester felt? Also, can the hats be wool with another material blend? Thanks for the video.
100 percent wool or 100 fur felt. Polyester fibers to not stretch correctly. They do what I call pickling and bunch up and get very wrinkly. I've tried both blends and strati forward they would work if you want to cut then out and sew a Trilby but not for any type of hat block work.
Hi there! I love your videos and am trying to get into this. I ordered two hat shapers (in a size for my head, so kind of small) and one pretty standard wool felt capeline from etsy. It all finally came and it looks like the dome that is already stretched into the capeline is larger than my hat shaper.. so I wouldnt really be stretching, I would be I guess shrinking it to the mold. It just made me realize that I didn't look into the sizing of the domes of the capelines and just how wide the edges go for cutting. Do you have any suggestions? I could just get a larger hat shaper, but then the hats wouldn't fit my head! Anyway, any info would be very helpful. Thank you!
the capelines and hoods all come free size. You are going to end up with more brim then you need- you can do one of two things with the dome part when you steam it and pull it down then take your twine and wrap it and you will have the excess to work around (will have to iron flat the excess and cut to where you want it) or you can cut the dome off and re attach the brim to the hat after your crown is dry.
@@GreenBunnyHats Should you wait till the felt has completely dried after shaping the crown before you shellac? Or can i shellac it when its still damp? I've been waiting a day to shellac for the initial dome shaping but I'm having trouble keeping the fedora shape! Thank you!
@@meganmiller2578 @Megan Miller wait 24 hrs for it to dry. Cover the shaper with plastic wrap- make sure the shellac is worked into the felt (i only spray the inside) and return to block to dry

¡Hola! Ordeno caplines y capuchas que tienen esa forma a proveedores de sombreros. Puedo hacer un video que muestre cómo pasar de la forma plana a la capucha, ¡lleva mucho tiempo!
you would order a Capeline or a Hood- the hood is just a dome shaped felt piece and the capeline is a dome with different sized "brim" piece you can get flat felt (needs to be a little ticker than what you want) and you can use a Dome shaper to stretch it into a workable shape- takes some time and lots of patience! I get my caplines and hoods from Manhatco

Hello, I had a question. I went to the hat shaper website, and the fedora mold was not there. I know you can also use a bowler as a base, but I would like to check and see if I can get a fedora mold first. Do you know how I could contact them or any other places where I could get a fedora mold for a similar price?
hello Thank you for this very important video I wanted to ask please Ifa, I can buy Quality felt fabric to make a hat I would love a link to a store that sells these fabrics And one more question please. Ifa, you can buy the device that cuts the brim of the hat I saw some videos of hat makers on TH-cam who use a wooden handle with a knife You can adjust the measurements to cut the brim of the hat Thank you and have a nice day
If you wanted to burn the hat to distress it how is that done? Would you spray a little rubbing alcohol on it then light it? I see so many videos of people spraying the hats with something but they never say what it is.
the burning you are describing is done to burn off the extra hairs after sanding. The alcohol has to be as high proof to have a clean quick burn. The distressing and marking is done with lighters, blow torches and wood burning pens. ThunderVoice Hat Co has done it with gunpowder. Their hats are quite beautifully and masterfully distressed.
I do teach private hat making classes, its two days and cost is dependent on the hat you want to make. (you end up with a finished hat you get to keep) We are located in Orlando FL
I do make hats for sale- they take quite a bit of time since we make our own hatblocks as well. Someone has to be a bit patient to get one of my hats! ;)

What is that black electric plate iron is sitting on?
It is an induction cooker it only heats up the metal that's touching it and the plant itself does not get hot

What style at block would I use for a ‘pork pie’ hat?
you can start with a bowler hat block and do the crown shape by hand, that will also make it so you can control how deep you want the grove as well
Are the Hat Shapers capable of pinning?
you can't pin them I use the twine around the base of the crown to hold in on
