I lived in SFV from 1958-1975. Went to Rinaldi St. School, El Oro Way Elementary, Patrick Henry Jr. High, Grant High School and graduated from Taft High School in 1969, and then graduated from Cal State Northridge1975. Have some phenomenal memories and still stay in touch with many of my school mates. Some them have passed on. I'm 70 now living in Taranaki, New Zealand which reminds me alot of California back in those days. Wide open. God Bless America!
Grew up in Sylmar and loved every minute of it. The foothills were our playground and we had many wonderful adventures in them. Trips to castaic lake during those dog days of summer and cruising Van Nuys Blvd on those warm summer nights. The San Fernando valley will always be in our hearts.
Born in Arleta in 62 and boy, what memories I have cruising Van Nuys Blvd.
@@fellowshipofthemystery6154 wow! I graduated in '62 ( Van Nuys High) You would have loved Van Nuys Blvd in the '60's! The cars on the Blvd back then rival today's car shows! Andy Andrews Auto lot across from Bobs would be a car show today!
@@bobadams3661 When the girl's served up dinner on roller skates... miss those days. Good to hear your story, Bob.
I was born in San Fernado hospital in 1944, living in Pacoima until 1951, then moved to North Hollywood.
Graduated from Monroe High in 1961.
I miss those times.
I was born in Burbank in 1948 and grew up in the Valley. I remember the tail end of the ranching and agricultural era (I lived next door to Mr. Sperks' horse ranch in North Hollywood and two houses down from the Hurds' Camelia Farm.)The 101 took our house in 1956 and destroyed the neighborhood. Sepulveda Canyon, before the 405, wound its way through a forest of ancient sycamore trees. The beauty of the semi-rural Valley, in balance with small suburban villages, all vanished while I watched. Thanks for the memories.
HOME.... Great video reflecting when times were easy. Easy in a sense of Good neighbors , Fruit orchards ,and people who spoke without a foul mouth. Those were the good old days.
I was brought up in Woodland Hills, graduated from Taft High--1964...Such priceless memories...I miss those days...
Same here. I graduated Taft 1965. Getting older (much older) can be the pits.
Van Nuys Summer 62
I absolutely loved this montage. I grew up in the valley and have watched it changed through the years. So many memories. What an excellent tribute to those of us who are true SFV natives! Thank you.
@GoldmanShekelberg Rothsteingruber yes it is; I was 21 in 1975..you do the math. This is NOT the SFV I grew up in at Riverside & Coldwater..

One first jobs as a salesman I was transferred to the Valley. This was in the 80’/90’s. My first apartment was in Canoga Park, “The Perigee”. Man I was living large. Bought a small house in La Crescenta in 1986. Then moved to Valencia and now in Texas. Those were good times. Good video, thank you.
From Reseda, 19424 Enadia Way, Shirley Ave Elementary, The egg Store, Sherman Square roller rink, Sutter Jr. High. I've moved out a while ago, but can't take the Valley out of me. Great Video.
A lot of great pictures of the valley, especially Canoga Park. Thanks guys. I went to Canoga Park High.
Gen X'er here. While I'm blessed to grow up in So California before technology took over and made California the trash heap it is today. I can't help but think the Boomer generation looked like the best generation to grow up in. You guys had the best clothes and music. It looked like you guys had fun. I kind of wish I could of grown up in your generation. Thanks for all you do, Boomers!
Yes real America...Now people are muzzle and looking at phones every seconds.. Nothing is real anymore

Gosh, thank you for saying "Thank you!" I agree with Joe Queenan that we Boomers will mainly be known for needlessly complicating everything. (Who else could rename a ham and cheese sandwich "Niman Schell Fontina Panini?") But, seriously, growing up in the Valley in the early 1950's was paradise.
The West Valley was wide open spaces when I grew up and lived in the late 50's to early 70's. Now it is overcrowded, expensive, and full of homeless.
No it was before the 1950's. That is when it was still pristine.
Wow this is so beautiful. Pictures and film are truly priceless. Amazing memories that for a moment you can relive. I’m going to start filming my city, I was born and raised here in the SFV. I’m only 21 years old now but one day I’ll have my blast from the past and I hope to make a montage as great as this one.
Lived Granada Hills on Chatsworth st. 1962-2005 across from John Carroll ranch there was an onion field that is now Petit Park miss those days
That was awesome. I grew up in Woodla d Hills and Canoga Park.
Awesome. I grew up in Reseda. The shot of Victory and Tampa in 1961 at 3:45 of this is right around the corner from where I lived as a kid. That shot was 4 years before I was born. Shopping Bag went under sometime in the 60s and it's been a Vons ever since. "Tampa Park" became "Loemann's Plaza," and Grants, Woolworths, Holiday Hardware, Casa De Pizza, Owl Drugstore, B of A, the bakery next door to it, etc are are all long gone.
I use to live down the street from there at Tampa and Kittridge. I was in Junior High School then. Remember it well ! Nice montage of times past and I do remember we had open fields behind us and no houses. we had tumbleweeds growing and in Canoga Park they had in the 1950s Walnut trees as I remember. Many changes ! Been gone a long time. Thanks for the video.
Yes Sir...West Resda little league Pirates, early 70s'. Coach Ritchea would often take us to Casa de Pizza after the games. Good times.
Beautiful images and a beautiful song. Thank you.
I hope am still alive 50 years from now so I can come one last time to this video.
Great video I grew up in Burbank Rancho went to Abraham Lincoln Elementary, Jordan Jr high and Burroughs high. 60’s to 80’s
Me too. I went to all 3 schools. I was on the other side of Rancho. Keystone St. just north of Alameda.
I'm a tad older than you. Went from Kindergarten (Miss Hefflefinger) 1957 to 12 grade (Mr. Wood, the art teacher) 1970.
I tell people growing up in Burbank as a kid was The Best Place to Be!
My Wife lived on Orchard and went to Burroughs
Very interesting to see the early 1900s photos. They seem so peaceful.
Born in the Reseda area, I can appreciate this.
Awesome song!💝
It is mind-numbing how the planners in the Los Angeles area chose greed and development over common sense and facilitated the near-complete urbanization of the region. The virtual wiping out of local farming, including orchards, truck gardens, and dairies have left us vulnerable when it comes to disruptions in food supply and freshness. It still goes on as densification continues. I thought these 'public servants' were supposed to look out for us.
Heaven to hell and more hell to come
I grew up in north hollywood, the valley. Miss it. It was a quiet place.
Thank you. Valley from January 1941 until March of 2003...
Early morning, I can only imagine if I didn't have these... Fun and games are on the horizon.
I went to Piece College two 1968-1969. From the student job center Anson Williams and I got a weekend job at the Paladium in Hollywood at an Italian festival of some type. He wanted to make movie industry connections. 2:51 The Glendale Theater was there until at least 1977 when I saw A Bridge Too Far with Sean Connery.
This was a well-done video and kind of sad, too. Lived in Woodland Hills for four years. Walked all over, even in summertime.
Lots of old memories...Loved the old car Blue and White 1959 Ford Fairlane...First Car I learned to drive on in 1962. Things change over the years. Been in the valley off and on since 1961 ..Miss some of the old things...
Actually it was a 1957 Fairlane 500.
Born in north Hollywood and lived in reseda for 5 years. Interesting video
We used to drive our cars under the runway (Sherman Way underpass) and turn off our engines then pump the gas. Then turn the key on again and make the loudest noise when they backfired. More then one guy lost a muffler to that.
Very well done thanks!
0:35 Reseda Park. Reseda High School is not there yet.
0:53 Looking N/E. Van Nuys blvd in the middle. Fillmore on the left heading towards Lopez Cyn. Pierce is on the very right. Half way up the photos and just to the right of pierce is Hanson Hills, that small mountain you see near Whiteman Airport which had not been built yet. Little Tujunga and Kagel cyn s the little valley at the base of the mountains on the right top of the photo.
01:13 Looking South towards Ventura Blvd. Coldwater cyn on the Left. In the middle of the photo the road (lower loop) that runs onto Ventura is Fairway Avenue. The upper loop is Sunswept Dr.
Beautiful video
In the immortal words of the photographer Dorothea Lange, "Documentary photography needs no justification."
I am totally into the Baby Boomer Tributes! And I am only 18.
It's great living in this place!!
Then it was..Now a concrete hell hole with people wearing muzzles..
Fun fact: Nichelle Nichols (Uhura in Star Trek) lived in Woodland Hills, just off Ventura Blvd.
Studio City shot of Harvard Westlake High ( aka upper school ) when it was a golf course & you can see the east ridge of the Rain Forest Trail.
made me cry...
2:43 - Lindero Canyon Rd and Westlake Lake
LOVE THAT SONG MUSIC SUCKS TODAY!
lol boomer
Is amazing how the people growing up all the Beauty is gone back in the day now is smog everywhere no more clean air is something to paid attention . .
Awesome times..Still had good ol American farm families on every 40, 80., 160 acres. Better days for sure..Hard yes but they knew no better..Amish still live like that..
Very saddening in nostalgia way.. Heaven on earth back then..Now people are muzzzled ..Looking at phones every 5 seconds..Boys are girls. And no one knows shit about farming /ranching..
I was there. It was good. You WISH you could have been there.
Grew up here in the 80s-90s.. I have a love hate for the 818…more love though.
How come my high school in Van Nuys was around 800 years or more old ? Because there was civilization there before !
Just beautiful, what's the title of the song?
Thanks for sharing..

He Ain't Heavy by the British rock band The Hollies
@@spiff8862 Oh, they of the Long, Cool Woman in a Black Dress song. Nice
What about panorama city ??? I always wondered how it looked like that before 🤔
i love the town i live in CANOGA PARKE
I miss the 18th Century. No traffic, no smog, everyone was dressed nicely, all the women had hats and bustles, not the trash heap it is today…everything’s gone down hill since 1769.
1:36 - I'm interested in finding out where the ranch that Desi Arnaz & Lucille Ball owned was in relation to that landscape.
That shot is Topanga canyon Blvd in Chatsworth, taken from Stony Point, just before it turns up over Santa Susana Pass to Simi Valley. The intersection at the diagonal is Chatsworth street. Far upper left is the intersection of Topanga & Devonshire. My uncle owned an orchard & turkey farm on Devonshire, where the tall eucalyptus trees are. the property you are interested in was well to the east off Devonshire in what is now the Granada hills/porter ranch area.
Hi missing van nuys Hollywood Sherman oaks orange county California Oklahoma Texas Mexico
Tampa and Victory 1961 has to be a mistake because that's a white 1963 Ford stopped at the light, I grew up in Tarzana/Reseda in 1958 and I'm an auto mechanic. So I guessing it's a 1964-65? pic.
RESEDA HIGH '74 GOOOO REGENTS !!
This is the song from the end of Rambo 3
Who sang this song?
The British rock band "The Hollies"

Wow van nuys
They butchered Glendale...Should have kept that small town feel, like downtown Palo Alto did, with the still remaining Stanford Theatre and walkable downtown.
It's Pacoima, not Pacomia - heheheheh
So. California use to be a beautiful place of orchards, groves, and farms, now it's a place of over population and ugliness.
Much of California is still "a beautiful place of orchards, groves, and farms [sic]".
In case you haven't noticed, the population of many places has risen exponentially over the past century.
