The etymology for stan actually comes from the Eminem song, "Stan" about an obsessed fan who ends up acting out similar actions in real life, based on lyrics from various songs and antics from Eminem's music. Then kind of became a colloquial term for "a crazed or intense fan" in social media/pop culture as a whole
The awards are great and I look forward to them every year, BUT I can't believe the boys couldn't show the respect the awards deserve and dress appropriately for the occasion. Suit and tie expected or at least a suit with no tie.
I paused my cell, my pager and my podcast app just to come here and hate on y’all for not being Eminem Stans. Anyways, I hope you get this guys, hit me back just to chat. P.s. we should be together too
Issac wire to wire in a better field, in a 5 round tournament is a way bigger performance than Gannon winning against a guy that fell down. Sad for Isaac.
My favourite disc golfer is still Paul McBeth. For how dominant he was. For how professional he is. And for all he's done to promote the sport and to grow the game. Look for him to have a big year nexr year after not winning a tournament for the first time in a long ass time
Yall should do a listener bag battle. Take 2 peoples bags and put them head to head. 3 man vote to see who wins. Then the winner at the end of the off season gets an atlas bag.
The legit spotter of the year belongs to the 3-man crew at hole 3 at the tobaggan course. I volunteered there som I'm biased, but they really deserve a shootout. The woods to the right of that downhill is/was extremely thick. Ive found discs, but never my own every time ive had to get in there. It eats discs and because it's downhill they can go far/deep or get caught up early. The right miss is extremely common too, the wind comes at you, plus the downhill throw, and discs get turned over very easy. Not only did the spoters not loose a disc this year(or in the past 3 years) they usually end up finding extras from AMs and practice rounds. They were all good people too.
BEST PERFORMANCE does not mean who had the coolest, flashiest or whatever win, it should mean who performed the best in comparison to the field in a specific event. Isaac went wire to wire over 5 days in the biggest tournament of the year, two courses, and the most difficult field of the year. Gannon had a come-back victory against Ricky who choked! Without a Ricky choke this isn't even a conversation! Gannon player of the year is a no brainer, but best performance of the year is Isaac Worlds and its not close.
Just now getting around to listening...you missed another HUGE choke. European Open, Evelina had 3 shots on Silva and 7 on Kristen, then lost 14 strokes on the round to Kristen's comeback. Wild times.
Oh man imagine RobbieC getting sent an award for the worst take of the year, hell that take might not be beat for years to come 😂😂 That can't be fun. It's ok Robbie we all love you. I hope your award is cool though.
They need some 32-bit float recorders. Everyone does. Maybe it will catch on in just an audio nerd. Maybe some pop filters on top of what they got would fix that
2015 was before I was even playing disc golf. But the question isn’t about if Gannon would have dominated in 2015 too. That’s irrelevant. The discussion is who’s season was better compared to the field at that time
I find it interesting to designate Ricky with the choke of the year while also giving Gannon, beneficiary of that "choke" the award for performance of the year, does that not kind of undermine just how significant of a performance it was?
What I am about to write might be controversial or "hot take" as you would call it. I am not questioning Gannon as player of the year. But here is my opinion on Paul McBeth 2015 vs Gannon Buhr 2024 season comparison. I would lean towards Paul McBeth's 2015 season purely because of one thing - He won that year World Championship. And Gannon didn't win it this year. If we are talking about players, we don't say Paul is 3 time USDGC champion or 5 time European champion. We say, Paul is 6 time World Champion. World championship has a meaning and is a bit above all the majors, because if you win it, you will be remembered by it. If we were to ask Gannon Buhr, if he would swap one or even 2 of his titles this year to win Worlds, I believe he would do that in a heartbeat. If Gannon were to win Worlds this year on top of everything else he has won, this season would definitely be better than Paul's 2015 and probably would be considered as best season of all time and might not be overtaken ever. However since Gannon didn't win the worlds, I still consider Paul McBeth's 2015 season as the best so far. And also I would give player of the year to Evelina for the same reason, because it is was a tight race and she won the Worlds and Kristen and Missy did not. If its a tight race, I would give the Player of the Year to person winning the World Championship.
Did they ever say how these get voted or nominated? See that’s why I like the way the dgpt does their awards because they get actual players to vote and get the fans involved. I get it’s all fun in games here but outside of just obvious biases we heard throughout the year, it just seems kinda meh just another episode. Think y’all missed a good opportunity to make these something more special
Back then Paul still had to beat many great players like Ricky, Simon, Schusterick, prime Sexton/Koling, Ulibarri, Doss, Anthon, Barsby, Orum, Locastro, Feldberg, Gurthie etc. Some of these players have retired and some have replaced them. Are fields bigger nowadays? Yes and that's why there can be more different winners but what McBeth did to these great players back in 2015 can't be taken lightly. Climo also had that crazy season in 1995 when he won 23/26 tournaments so I wouldn't put Gannon's season past that either. I think this season of Gannon's beats Paul's 2019 and that's it. So it's still the 3rd best season of all-time and I think Gannon should be humble enough to take that. To match Paul's brilliance I think Gannon has to win at least 3 majors including worlds and over half of the elite series tournaments. Paul won 5 majors and 14/19 elite series events so I think it's as fair as it gets. I mean the strenght of the field like I mentioned earlier wasn't that significantly stronger as Paul still had to beat dozens of great players.
Has Ricky ever lost a pro tour event when he had that large of a lead going into the final round in his entire career? I can’t recall. That’s another reason for choosing Buhr for performance of the year.
Argument against the "Gannon would be just as dominant if not more than Paul in 2015": Gannon is still a teenager who came up in disc golf in the 2020's. Very different than coming up in disc golf back in the early 2010's. I think if you stuck Gannon back there in the early 2010's and had him compete with Paul and Rick in 2015, Gannon would not be as competitive vs Paul and Rick as people think he would be. The pros throw much further now, yes. But if you put Gannon back in that era, he would have to learn his form with the resources available. There would not be the thousands of youtube videos like there are now. Also, there were more courses on tour in 2015 that really required touch and gap hitting. I am not saying Gannon doesn't have touch or gap hitting skills, but Paul was on another level with those two aspects of his game that year. It felt like he never missed a shot when other pros would have difficulty with that same shot. Interesting discussion though! I'm glad disc golf has these discussions now because it shows longevity and people finding value in the different eras.
Some problems with your argument: To say Gannon would not be as competitive as Paul and Rick is ridiculous, at least the Ricky part, Gannon played against a better version of Ricky this year and came out on top most of the time. Second, if you go back and look the best players after McBeth were Will schusteric, Nate doss, Nikko, Simon, Drew Gibson, Ricky, sexton, Jerm, Uli. Gannon beats all of those people. The question can’t be Gannon vs. that era because he would obviously win. To say people weren’t throwing as far is true but also not fair, that is when Simon was at his peak throwing absolute monsters. It has to be Gannon vs. Paul on the 2015 courses and only against Paul. McBeth dominated that season, I think if you drop Gannon into the 2015 season right now it would still be really close.
@@landonwebb886 That last sentence is precisely the thing I was forming my argument around. If you dropped Patrick Mahomes into the 1970's NFL, he would absolutely tear apart defenses. However, if you dropped him in that time and had him develop in that timeframe, the argument changes. Gannon is a better player now, yes. If you dropped him back in 2015 with his current skillset, different argument. Gannon is playing at a very high level, but so is the rest of the field. The strength of field argument is actually logically false especially when you consider that you only have to really beat the top echelon of players in modern disc golf to win an elite event. Back in 2015, Paul still only had to beat the top echelon of players which would namely be Ricky (who was one year removed from winning back to back world titles by the way). But to say that Gannon beats all of those players in 2015 is actually pretty diminishing of them in the form they were in during that season. The ratings are inflated now due to higher participation, but those players were very competitive and consistently playing at a high level. Just look at their ratings and how they compare to how high the ratings are today. It's actually very similar and there's a guy on reddit that did a statistical analysis of that. The field is just deeper now. There's more players who achieve that high level. Gannon winning as much as he did this year is very impressive because he beat more players playing at that high level. Paul won 20 times in 2015 with most of those events being NT's and Majors. He beat players week in week out who were playing at that high level. The consistency to never finish outside the top 3, even in that era, was mind blowing.
I have to either disagree or play devils advocate here, but I haven’t decided which. How can you give Ricky biggest choke but Gannon best performance based on the same round? I feel like you can’t have both here. It’s like when the media asks a team “did you lose the game or did the other team win it”. I side with Trevor on the best performance. Going back to back just enhances the performance that much more.
Ngl I’m a big Rick fan but I’m kinda salty he said it’s not even close between Gannon and Paul, I think that was Rick not wanting to admit Gannon is better than him right now

Use this comment to roast Trevor for not dressing up 😂
He's even trashing used car salesmen! That a jerk!
They cave to comment pressure so quick
Boom roasteddddddddd
So lame, definitely should have dressed up. Trevor L
(I wouldn't have noticed if he didn't bring it up)
Trev is looking like a middle school golf coach now.
I always looked forward to you all dressing up.
“Stan” originated from an Eminem song that is sung from the perspective of a psychotic fan named Stan
It’s an incredibly sad song, you guys should give it a listen
Incredibly sad and incredibly written. It's a full length film jammed into one of my favorite songs from the mind of a genius.
Geez them not knowing this really showed how young these guys are lol
Next year you guys should do a highlight reel with this, it would be cool to announce someone and then see what they did this season, next level
Then having post editing media has been an ask for a couple years. Don’t hold your breath.
Also - “stalker fan” shortens to Stan.
youngins these days
Need one more debate night this week to let callers join and roast some of these picks
The awards are great and I look forward to them every year, BUT I can't believe the boys couldn't show the respect the awards deserve and dress appropriately for the occasion. Suit and tie expected or at least a suit with no tie.
I'm so excited! And also terrified!
I paused my cell, my pager and my podcast app just to come here and hate on y’all for not being Eminem Stans.
Anyways, I hope you get this guys, hit me back just to chat.
P.s. we should be together too
Seems like Trevor needs to improve his drip
tour life is the all time goat i love paul and brodie just yapping
I like how Trevor's Trivia turned into a "History of the Grippies."
Dressing up adds to the vibe, you have to do it next year.
Man I love that you dress up, y’all look sick
Can't believe big Trev wore a sweater to present prestigious awards ...
26:50 the origin of Stan is Eminem wrote a song called Stan about an obsessive fan of his.
The boys not knowing where “stans “ comes from killed me 😂
A Manufacturers cup would be sick! IT would be cool having manufactures having it each year they win like the Stanley Cup
I really like you dressing up and you look SICK
giving best performance to gannon at the tour championship is diabolical
Next year at least get tuxedo t-shirts
Issac wire to wire in a better field, in a 5 round tournament is a way bigger performance than Gannon winning against a guy that fell down. Sad for Isaac.

i thought "stan" came from the eminem song stan
It did. These guys aren't smart.
Let’s goooo🎉🎉
I side with Trevor, because he’s Trevor!
the grippy grandma award sounds like one they’d give out at the AVNs honestly
MGGA Make the Grippies Great Again. Need black tie!
Stokely deserved a nomination for best Tour Life host.
And Brad, right!?
And bill too
best season of all time
In the bag idea: best ways to introduce a player on the first tee (saxophone has already been taken)
You guys should do starter of the year, I would pick the saxophone guy this year in California
Idea for in the bag: use the names of discs to create a team to take over the world
Gannon totally has the better season. Yall hit that on the nose.
Yall should do a listener bag battle. Take 2 peoples bags and put them head to head. 3 man vote to see who wins. Then the winner at the end of the off season gets an atlas bag.
Manufacturer’s Cup needs to be a cup trophy
a small matter i think some ppl forget about Gannon.. its his first season w DM... imagine when i gets REALLY comftable with his discs... :D

‘Stans’ comes from the Eminem & Dido song Stan about an obsessed super fan who ends up killing himself and his pregnant girlfriend.
Throwing far is a skill
Should have video of the of the spotter things
I tend to agree with Trevor more often, but I think Hunter is right on performance of the year
Obviously the performance of the year should be Gannon. Just for that -13 and the W
Pausing to get my suit on
How exactly are Prodigy and House of Disc cutting costs a Fire Fest situation?
Hunter said “best run” instead of “best ran” 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Vote for runner up spotter who opened the gap on the island hole at sunset hills mid tournament.
No Joey Buckets for breakout player ???
Wow! No grammie nomination for the Saxophone player at OTB?! Calling for a recount.
BEST PERFORMANCE does not mean who had the coolest, flashiest or whatever win, it should mean who performed the best in comparison to the field in a specific event. honorable mention for the Grippie Grammy has to be the saxophone player at OTB. I mean c'mon lol

Please put a High pass filter on the vocal mics. Every time there is a plosive, B, or even a table touch it is insanely bass heavy.
no u
It's a good thing Tour Life is streamed live, because Audition would crash trying to apply effects to a mix that long.
a pop filter would help a bit when they are speaking
They need some 32-bit float recorders. Everyone does. Maybe it will catch on in just an audio nerd. Maybe some pop filters on top of what they got would fix that
You're an idiot, obviously the best way to fix it is a multi band compressor to just super compress the low end🙄
24:08 out of context, Konnor: 🫤
How is Joey Buckets not in the mix for breakout MPO player of the year?!?
Lowkey think that who’s got it big Kon’s got it should’ve won the Grippy Grammie award
How was Joey Buckets not a nominee for breakout player of the year?
The origin of “Stans” is Eminem had an obsessive fan named Stan and even made a song about it
Bro they literally always cave to comment pressure. DRESS UP NEXT TIME
Choke of the year: didn’t something crazy happen in FPO at the European open?
Disagree with the host grippie. That award goes to the one and only????????? BRAD off course and nobody else comes even close!:):):):):):)
For the best music you forgot the saxophone guy
An over looked accolade for Tattar, first FPO 1000 rated. Definitely FPO player of the year.

@1:03:30 Trevor what does Aiden Scott have to do with Evan??
"Dickerson Riders"

Performance of the year goes to Gannon? I think Issac!!
Can we get a 3 claw Grip Locked shirt?
Never fun when mom and dad are fighting
The proper awards show attire is a Steelers jersey...
I hate TH-cam sometimes.. 6 commercials in a 10 minute span what is happening?
“Stans” comes from the Eminem song “Stan”
Joey Buckets should've been considered for break out player
Back then Paul still had to beat many great players like Ricky, Simon, Schusterick, prime Sexton/Koling, Ulibarri, Doss, Anthon, Barsby, Orum, Locastro, Feldberg, Gurthie etc. Some of these players have retired and some have replaced them. No nomination for the saxophone player???
Trevor dressed like an Uber driver
(Join the movement and make fun of Trevor’s outfit to bully them into dressing up again next year)
ricky just salty you love to see it
Funny that when Trevor is reasonable and Hunter isn’t, we side with Trevor because, and only because, he’s opposed to Hunter.
You guys need tuxedo t-shirts
Its eminem boys jeez. If that was comment bait...well done.
The man with a 10 strike lead won vs Isaac going wire to wire. Clearly Isaac’s performance was better.
Has Ricky ever lost a pro tour event when he had that large of a lead going into the final round in his entire career? I can’t recall. That’s another reason for choosing Buhr for performance of the year.

black tie next year pls
Stan = short for “stalker fan” - originated from the Eminem song by that name.
Greatest season without Worlds? How?
Still upset Konner never game me the shout out I was promised for getting him the USDGC Roc....
