I am a new BDO player and perhaps you have been playing for too long and forgot but when you start you are overwhelmed by a lot of mechanics such as amity, worker nodes, fairy, cooking, fishing, housing, crafting... I honestly spend MUCH more time doing those secondary stuff than actually levelling. Took me around a week to reach level 52 (which is the level i am right now), just because I was taking my time and enjoying the game and all the features I have been presented to. To use level as a measurement of game time, from my new player point of view living all the new experience right now as we speak is wrong. Also as a new player I fully agree with most things he say, however I weight those cons differently, they were not so much of a drawback to make me quit.
but a good MMO shouldnt show you everyone either, it suppose to be a big world and u got to learn bout it bit by bit, you are not suposed to start BDO today and learn everything bout it in 1 day , idk why so many people are fixated with wanted to know everything ASAP bout a game, it might be true bout diff genres for as MMOs that a big apeal that is true that not many people realize
also in a MMO especially the less you know the more excited you gonna be to play the game, once you learn everything bout a game it become boring
yeah thats the common newplayer experience, happened to me too, the BDO worlds draws you into a shit ton of things and you naturally want to know whats going on, the hard thing to do is to focus bit by bit and not trying to do everything at once
Boots up a PC game on PC, plugs in a console controller "Why is this control method sub par, wtf?!". Would be a valid complaint if it weren't an MMO, literally no MMO plays well with a controller, you can do it, but mouse and keyboard will always be more efficient and comfortable as it is the intended control method. Pretty common knowledge, one should probably question why this guy thinks he has any business making a first impressions video when he doesn't understand pretty basic concepts.
I use controller on pc but I’ve played on console for like 2 years before I switched to pc. I like controller and do just fine.

That was cool, thanks man, glad you liked the take. People like that have such a linear game idea that this game doesn't make sense, and they are already so invested in this game, it seems sub standard. You could tell from his tone he never wanted to and yeah I mean after fighting that long with anything, really shouldn't even have played it. There is also a lot of subtle british humor strewn throughout this and again that is a cultural issue that is lost in translation, but still yet yeah, I tried my best to help him see it a bit different. Truth is though, a lot of things are like that in BDO, gearchecks of IQ and sticktoitiveness. None of us would have over 1k hours in it if we didn't have those things and saw a clear thing we wanted out of the game and worked to get it out of it. GGS man.

When it comes to questing, there ARE actually good quests, in specific MMOs. Specifically, Elder Scrolls Online quests, are actually REALLY good as far as MMO quests go. Some of them have solid/decent loot too, but the real kicker is that usually, they give enchant fodder, skillpoints, and decent gold.

As someone who plays PC with Controller and Console. Yes, the Optimization is better on Console but the UI editing is better on PC. The only thing u gotta really get used to on PC with a controller is u still gotta use your mouse when in CM, and ofc typing only can be done on keyboard. Oh yea bdo also favors Xbox because u can only use a Xbox controller unless u do what I did and use a 3rd party software to trick bdo into thinking I'm using a Xbox controller when I'm actually using PS controller. I only play controller to prove its not hard to beat M&KB players, I do it in every game to prove a point. I am good with both tho just in case someone challenges me on it
If they made the mini bosses like the boss rushes in lotml people would actually appreciate the combat more and will make the new player wanna learn how their class works I wish them boss rush style boss fights was in the game way before lotml was even a thing

In all fairness and honesty, as a new player, it took me almost a week to hit 56. I watched every cut-scene, listened to the entire story plot, and did many research videos to figure stuff out along the way.
DUDE the 1st time I played BDO, I didnt even look at cash shop. I hust played it until I loved it.

29:30 I think they should speed up for new players, but not low level, let player hit wolf 5-10 times before it die, but don't force to be in valencia or polly forest for xx hours, cut this part, make this faster. Devs make it so fast that they had to cut early content already, remember that you start from Olvia or island in early game, but it take more to go to kill mobs, than kill mobs.
And where are software for devs to lip sync with text, use it, because even new quest animation are for Korean language not English.

i play BDO on PC but i love playing the game with controller. An i dont use the controller grid, i made my own controller setup with keyboard.
I think RuneScape has good/fun quest. Allot of them are unique and pretty engaging. Like finishing a quest in that game feels like end game evetime imo.
I absolutely cannot play and be good at this game with keyboard and mouse. Ive tried to game on the computer and i cant get the hang of it. I can smash with a controller though. I think its due to my freakishly long e.t.-like fingers hitting too many keys. Idk why people dont like questing in this game. I enjoy them. They arent as good as dragon age quests but its leagues above eso dragons dogma etc. Ive played them all. Skyrim quests were even lackluster unless you were doing the main quest. I also agree with the difficulty issue. I was getting bored with the mini bosses as a awakened ninja lvl 58. Then i met garmoth. That was challenging and took me a little longer due to me needing to move around alot more

Yea you should hit like 60 to 61 before an opinion then after that put your opinion forward. I’ve been playing for like at least 2 months so I’m new to the game but not dumb about it. Tbh I think it’s a solid game just needs more work added to it. I think there is some amount of content missing especially on console and be in mind my whole review is from playing console because that’s all I played so far upto level 60
Unfortunately console is a watered down version of BDO several years behind on content and missing various things we got years ago. Many of my console friends have rerolled to come join me on PC. It's still a good game on console, so I don't mean to knock it, but it definitely ain't quite the same as the "real" BDO - as many of my console homies have said.

I started playing about a month ago, here's my first impression: I stopped playing yesterday, this game still suffers from every style of p2w out there.
Wanna play casually and lifeskill? nope, no without value pack the other cash montly buffs or the busted 50% chance to extra loot from the pet.
Decide to grind in circles for hundred/thousand of hrs? you better buy that tent, even then i didn't found a single person that thinks "great lets grind!!!".
If you wanna play casually, u can do it without all those buffs that you are critizicing hahaha, thats just for tryhards that want to min max their profit and efficiency, but if you just wanna play casual, u dont need to pay for shit

Decided i wanted to play lifeskill since grinding isn't fun at all and was impossible without valuepack, on top my hededog giving 50% extra loot feelt unfair, if i didn't buy the buffs my energy wouln't refill fast enough and if i decided to play it chill i sense im wasting my valuepack days.
I also believe investing 3k hours to play pvp wich im almost sure will be an unbalanced mess is not worth it.

One of BDOs biggest problem is, the Devs start to implement a ton of stuff, but most of the stuff is bugged af, after that it takes MONTH for them to fix and complede it, insteed they implement one after one and do that stuff right or even finish it....

IMO the video was mostly a copy paste of reviews and opinions he found online.
He didn't mention ANY of the core fundamental aspect of an MMORPG game like: gear progression, character progression, combat fluidity, game stages, character building, world immersion, among a lot of others. Most that's mentioned is either not even scratching the surface or meaningless for the day a day gameplay.
A first impression review and an "honest opinion" doesn't equal to just booting the game once.
I think what most got upset with was with his petty responses in the comments.
But again, undeserved amount of negativity and a meme channel after all, we should move on.

If you want to enjoy the story, dont spam R. It is that easy. Story is great in BDO, majority of people just skip it. I think MAgnus quest line was amazing. I think Mountain of Eternal Winter was amazing. I felt for Jordine and it sucks when he in the end threw all his hopes for normal life out of window and entered demon realm. Reworked Balenos quest line is decent aswell. People are unwilling to read. And that is ok too.
I hate those new campaign minibosses. They are unbalanced and not intended to bring the same feeling for different classes because of the huge stat difference on low lvl pre-awa skills. No one ever bothered to tune those low skill stats during the development BUT they have reworked the freaking bosses
As someone who's played 100 or so hours of BDO on and off over the past couple years, the onboarding experience sucks for new players. Between the controls, the UI, the graphics settings, and the painfully slow start, I have yet to convince any of my RPG/MMO playing friends to last more than a week/10 hours in the game.
Personally I got to the point where it becomes enjoyable, so I can recognize the potential. I actually enjoy playing the game. But there's only so many times I can lean on "trust me, it gets better if you stick with it" before they look for something else to do. Interestingly enough, I encountered the same problem with FF14, but for very different reasons. But the "trust me, it gets better if you stick with it" didn't really work there either outside of a few cases.
Unfortunately alot of the "beginner" guides for this game assume you've survived the first 10 hours and are open to the game, rather than trying to help people who were instantly confused or put off by it actually want to give it a chance. Nobody cares about unlocking class awakening if they're annoyed by the controls and are getting bombarded with useless popups and are in inventory hell on day 1. And it's a real shame because if you can survive that initial experience, there's a lot of good in BDO.
The wildest thing about the Sawman first impression video is every single player in BDO agreed with all he said, but they were frothing at the mouth over his title, and called it misinformation. Even though everyone agreed with all the points.

I also don't understand the take of, everything you say is so right, but you can't say it's right until you get to "X" level. If something is true, then it's true, and no amount of level means it's MORE true. It's a strange take. Like saying the sky is blue when your 5 years old, but someone comes along and says you don't have a right to say that until you're 15. True is true regardless. First impression is at the beginning of something, you know, the "First" part. The start. You don't make a first impression in the middle. I think some people need to understand what first means.

I mean he's right about how questing is mostly trash, but that's pretty much it? Like how controller feels bad is user issue 100%, like just be an actual human being and use m&kb. UI & settings can be fine tuned in like 10 minutes, so I don't really get the criticism here either. Questing in bdo isn't meant to be exciting, their vision of it it was obvious to narrate the lore, up till Winter zone they try to make it a bit more "exciting", questing carries the lore and gearing the combat, its obvious that the game is sorta split in that sense, fair for a brand new player isnt obvious or clear since most expect something more theme park like, wow, ffxiv etc
Even though they've added super fast leveling and streamlined character progression with season servers I actually think it's a worse off new player experience. I started playing after Kamasylvia was released and although the world map was smaller it was more manageable, so zones in turn felt more meaningful encouraging you to explore. Quests felt like they all had a purpose even if it was just for XP.
Now almost every side-quest is pointless outside of a few with core unlocks.. you blow past the core game map barely even seeing it, you level faster than you can understand your skills. By the time you're 58 everything must have felt like a rush, transient, barely able to take anything in - that experience surely can't entice new players into the game..
34:00 people can be upset, because in MMO which takes hundreds of hours to play, guy giving his opinion spending 100x more time editing than playing... yeah, he don't even try other areas, don't get out of tutorial. "oh game is bad, because tutorial area is bad"... he may be right, but it as blindly throwing darts, it don't count.
And playing on PC using controllers... and problem with resolution, mostly because he have 2 screens, and he crop setting on...

If I did a first impression on any other mmorpg or even OLD DAYS rpg and gave it how much time HE gave bdo- id hit level 3 and be like "yeah thats enough for me" and not even be out of the tutorial xd (but in all honesty his video is a good watch, just wish he spent more time on the game itself)

He is right tho, the questing the oneshot mobs, it's all so god awful. I sincerely believe they would be better off just letting people grind aimlessly and increase all early Mobs HP by a lot. If you are not at least going to guide people with your shitty quests to engage in cool combat then what the F is the point of the quests, cause narrative ain't it.
You know what other game has god awful quests? Classic WoW, but do people hate the questing? No, and it's all because the 10 fucking spiders they send you to kill will eat you alive the first time you agro 2 mobs at once, at this point you are already hooked on "i need more gear" treadmill.
BDO is the biggest waste of time and electricity you can ever install on your PC. This coming from someone who's currently online in BDO right now with a family Playtime of 3311 hours.

Hey , thanks for watching and actually giving it a fair react.
However I think the issue is a lot of you are overlooking is the simple fact that I came into the game with no prior knowledge, and a fresh view on it.
I’ve heard enough people make the assumption that I’ve played for next to no time and then made my review.
A lot of other MMO’s usually force you to do questing to level, gain gear and learn about the basic controls. Which is what I did with BDO. I followed the quest , watched the cut scenes and had more health potions than I’ll ever need for low level.
I actually streamed the first bit of my time in bdo for 2 and a half hours on twitch and believe me I wasn’t max level, it’s still in my vods. It was a tedious time.
I decided to play the rest of it offline , as I was trying to configure the game UI and graphics. I knew this wouldn’t make good streaming.
The issue is, all the clips people seem to take literally. I didn’t put the clips in chronological order and I didn’t clip some of the more boring stuff I did. So lots of people assumed I just jumped in and out. That’s my fault for not thinking about how literal people may take the footage.
I tried to get into the life skills but I was being flooded with all sorts of bonus items and being asked to exchange crystals. It was overwhelming. None of which is properly explained. I did try fishing as it looked super popular, bought a rod and had a bad time with it. Even watched a video on fishing telling me how I can do it in AFK… it didn’t look exciting…once again , bad impression. However I didn’t go into to much details around this because I didn’t want to seem like I was complaining for the sake of complaining… oh sweet irony
Even after posting my video I carried on playing because I got some helpful comments.
Unfortunately the comment section turned into a cesspit. I got accused of all sorts and even had people say I was deleting comments. I assure you i only delete the ones telling me to kill myself or whatever TH-cam filters. People need to learn to sort by newest.
My point is, I went in saying the new player experience is bad, had veteran players dog pile me for my opinion. Which is now part of MY new player experience, being gas lit by toxic fan boys.
I just wanted to say, good react, you heard my points which was nice, but people need to realise not everyone picks up a game to just grind. Story, exploring and learning the tutorials is all part of a new player experience and can take time to do.
Fun fact I made a new toon to see how far i could get in 10 minutes. It was level 8, maybe I’m just bad or was too distracted by the art style 🤷♂️

I've played BDO since 2019, and yes the story itself is not good, but the lore on the other hand is interesting. Part of the problem is... the combat and the story is not in sync with each other now. Because there used to be no voice acting, no cutscenes and no budget for questing at all in the beginning. You just pick a bunch of "go here kill there" quests to just get right into the action. But right now, because they took questing more seriously, so the pacing of the story is just not in par with the gameplay anymore, so right at the start when... let's say you think "Ok, BDO is an action combat game, let's do some questing with action in it!" then it's the wrong idea, because they took their time and introduce the world to you, slowly. If you feel like BDO questing is not for you, part of it is the game problem, yeah questing in BDO is not great. But...
In BDO there is knowledge system, which kinda like Dark Souls kind of storytelling where bits of the lore are hidden around the world, usually nothing really that deep, but sometimes it's really expand the world of the game. And it took very long time to get to know the world like that, so people just gave up on and tossed the lore out of the window, say BDO has no story. Which is I think your situation in your video.
I also think people just mad and called you out because your lack of enthusiasm to making a review on BDO, hard pushed one of the worst aspect of BDO, i guess?
Real talk if you had put the life skilling bit into your video and then explain why you didn't like it how you did above, I think the video would've been 100x more palpable. Because even though I agree with certain aspects of your criticism, it did come off as you jumped in and then jumped out.

I think you were a bit unfair to the game, first, as blue says you played with controllers when the game on pc is not fully optimized for that and you criticized it as if it was about everyone's gaming experience, which is false. The UI is useful when you know it well, everything serves a purpose, I understand that it can be challenging for new players, but for those of us who know the game we know that everything about the UI has a reason to be. There's a wikipedia for AoC with a lore section and there have been countless videos done on what the AoC lore is and it's not out yet. What excuse does an almost decade long game have exactly?

I know this is an old video, but one point just doesn't really make sense to me, as I'm currently playing FF14, BDO and WoW(on and off), I can 100% tell that the quests themselves, or better to say quest objectives, are dog water no matter what game you play, especially on lower levels and especially when it's the original "expansion"/game, so to speak.
Everyone shits on BDO having shit quests/story, but did anyone actually bother to read that stuff like they do in FF14 for example? I'm not saying it's good, but I can't in good faith agree that BDO, or any other MMO at that, has a dogshit story unless I or the person telling me that actually gone though all of it and read it.
I have no clue why people complain about the questing being easy too, because it's not exclusive to BDO either. Technically it's not wrong, it would be nice to have something more engaging, but it is a plague of all MMOs, not just one or two.
Hes just talkin from a view of a "veteran" mmorpg player hes just comparing one with another mmo, i have been playing mmorpg fro 20 years, started with "Helbreath" good old pvp monster mmorpg, switched to Lineage2 mu online mostly tried wow didnt like it because i was a Lineage 2 player and the pvp is superior last one was TERA, loved the PVE in tera for is the greates PVE with good question history and dungeons raid mechanics. Moved to BDO in 2017-2018 already knowing is not a PVE MMORPG focused but i loved the combat system and open world pvp. I think hes so wrong to tal about "new player experience" means youre a new player to the genre that kind of ppl are the ones voting UP on steam actually with a good story but nobody read it, excellent combat huge open world tons of things you got to do in the game that for a new players is glorious and new player meaning actual new player to the genre without comparing BDO to any other mmorpg. Btw my english sucks.

i started bdo last week. a friend lured me onto the season server into LoML and i have been disappointed with everything exept the story so far. random teleports, popups for the first couple hours, interface bugs caused by the teleports, no fights at all. i was feeling like playing a visual novel with running simulator breaks.
i plan to start on the normal servers and the traditional start to give the game a fair chance but i honestly think i wont hit 20 hours playtime before uninstalling.
32:00 to be even more honest the typical take of having more than 100 hours in a game to give a review is a sad take. give enough efford to start enjoying something? shouldnt it be the other way around? to enjoy something and than give more effort to get better and enjoy it even more?

you start a new hobby and instantly hate it after an hour and only after torturing yourself though hundred hours, which for the average working human with obligations and family is a quater of a year of free time, you MAYBE learn to enjoy it.... i would rather spend a quater of a year to look through different hobbies and have a chance to find one which i enjoy instantly after a month or so.
32:45 also also. i have been playing 8 hours so far on the season server and dint reach lvl 50 yet. heck the interface is so cluttered and unintuitive i spent nearly 4 hours just fixing stuff on my end which i wasnt even able to do without the help of reddit and yt tutorials. i already spent around 10 hours outside of the game to even find out about where to get tools for life skilling which isnt adressed at all (loml) which should at least have been a hint window when picking up your first bush. like with the pets, come just let me have the tutorial the pets got from the black spirit for every life skilling thing.....

For game like bdo i think for review 100hours is Good thing if they play for 30minutes no way in hell can they accually tell anything about the game,

it was even more painful to see so many incohecent and random skips, teleports and mechanics in the game. sometimes you ghet teleportet, sometimes you dont, sometimes you get a flashed out cutscene sometimes just a still image, sometimes a mechanic was explained sometimes it wasnt. it felt like playing an early alfa of a new company not a finished line from an established one.
and it doesnt matter which kind of game/activity it is 100 hours of it to give a review? bullshit. if the first couple of hours is boring/painful you can give a review on how painful and boring the first hours are also it is mentioned that the video was an impressions video. and if you thinjk you need 100 hours to say how the first impressions are.... god damn i hope you do everything you give a try 100 hours even if its pure torture.
and reaching level 20 takes at most 30 minutes? if you dont read the story it may only take 30 but if you read it is a whole nother ballgame. not everyone just smashes text away without reading and randomly equipping stuff. have been 16 hours in the game on a season server before stopping and the character is level 47. i am totally aware you can advance to the normal server in a couple of hours but this is with smashing every bit of text away.
how can you even say that 10 hours is not enough to test everything when you clearly give a time to reach a specific level which requires skipping everything?
@@thonex8787 if u ask me review and first impression are totally differend and everyone i know that plays games always checks things about game before they even get it/try it. one thing u find about this game is that story aint good so if u came to game to think story was good then thats just their problem to not doing any research about game u are gonna play. But those problems(skips/teleports etc.) I didnt get them so not gonna comment on that one.
and for me every mmo i have played in beginning are kinda bland and i have needed to play atleast 10hours to get some grip of the game and have more fun.
of course i aint saying this game is perfect and it DOES need LOT of work. story for example. but anyways hope u will have fun in the game thats what they are for and happy new year in advance
no one picks up an mmo for a story.. thats what single player rpgs are for. You play mmos to compare progression with friends.

Funnily enough half of the problems can be solved by making the earl mobs encounters actually hard and challenging. Imagine if the grey wolf you fought in the first battle could actually eat you alive if you don't use your skills properly. Playing BDO is like playing an RPG with a god mode on, at no point in the main quest your life is in danger you can steam roll everything in one hit and you can afk in the middle of a damn monster zone eat, jerks off, take a shower, sleep, wake up the next day and your char will not die. It's really really dumb

Objectively, if you're playing a game and can't get to endgame because it's boring with a bad UI that's a problem for the growth of a game and worthy of a review. The combat on bdo looks great, and everyone I know that plays at end game loves it. Why not make the progression more like that? That seems reasonable to me and not pointless.

The game is bad if they can't make a good controller optimization. Even when it is a PC game.
So what you're saying is games like LoL, CS2, Minecraft, WoW, FF14 etc etc are bad because they feel better to play with their intended controls instead of a very secondary way of playing.
