Huge newborn, I can't imagine the possibilities of complicated birth. It is the first time in my life (I am 72) that I see the birth of a baby donkey, I was moved to tears, to tell the truth I was afraid that one of them would die, I felt a lot of anxiety, wishing to see them in their shed safe, a relief that everything went well, how lucky to have them in your care
I’m 70 and I feel the same as you. An amazing and worrisome experience watching the special event. Other wonderful animals checking them out and these two wonderful people. Thank you for sharing this wonderful experience with all of us.

One of the best memories I had with my deceased Son was watching a birth in the pasture. We are talking a big far with lots of cattle. I had always been curious so he called me to come see. It was amazing how the mother was given her space.she had one cow with her that was basically a mid-wife. She had several that protected a perimiter around mama and baby. Thankfully God saw fit ti bring her a healthy birth. Both mother and midwife cleaned the baby, placenta etc. Once they got the baby to stand mid-wife started calling a couple at a time to come see and congratulate mama.I am still in awe to this day. We don't give them enough credit or space to do it their way. Without seeing you can't be sure but I think Steve was trying to help. He was definitely ready to meet baby girl!
I have to admit I am laughing out loud at Freedom trying to kick you when she was so thankful you helped her give birth. She even let you pet and pick up her baby - but then it was "..back up that is MINE..". Thank God you saw her and reacted as fast as you did. Congratulations. You did exactly what I have seen a vet do-AWESOME work.
Daniel, isn’t it amazing that God had you in the right place at the right time?! The way you handled the delivery was so perfectly done, obviously you’ve had experience delivery livestock & ? maybe, as a trooper, a baby? I was blessed to be a part of the birth of my Norwegian Fjord pony 21 yrs ago (3/23/01), an experience I will never forget & a bond that won’t be broken. I never had children, but in nursing school worked in labor & delivery (most of my work was pediatrics icu). Seeing the birth of a baby, whether human or animal, I believe everyone should have a chance to witness. The gift of life is so precious & maybe then more would have the compassion that is so sadly missing in much of today’s society. Thank you for capturing & sharing such an incredible moment. First off, I have to give you and your family a big hug for the trauma you went through last week with the accident. To still go to the Expo and then relate your story to everyone there had to take a lot of fortitude. To share such an emotional event and do it with that Arms Family delivery that you do in all your videos, just shows everyone that you were meant to do what you do. You are truly following Gods plan for your family. Now on a brighter note, congrats on the new baby donkey. Looks like two sisters for the farm. Unless Dejae has more plans for another spotted Joey . I thought the videos I’ve seen about the Okie Expo showed what a huge success the event was. Keeping it Dutch, Hidden Heights Farm, along with Walker Farm Fam and Adler Farm did an outstanding job pulling this off. I’m sure your all very excited with the turnout and already making plans for next year!

Oh my gosh I was so nervous through this whole video. So much happened between at first thinking Steve was hurting her to her not being able to get the baby out and thinking the baby was dead to Daniel having trouble getting the baby out to thinking Freedom didn’t look well after she had the baby and didn’t follow you up towards the barn. So relieved everyone is fine and way to go Daniel, I do believe you saved them both and the sweet baby is beautiful!

Aside from the fact that I am so glad the timing was perfect when you came out to bottle feed and be able to help momma ... My favorite part of this video is how all the other animals smelled and followed the baby. It seemed like they all welcomed it into the family! So sweet!! 💕

This was a miracle! Seeing Freedom deliver her baby was a blessing for me. Thank God Daniel noticed her husband dragging Freedom from her neck in circles. The rest is history, but now they have a new beautiful addition! Amazing to watch the other animals were mesmerized by the new born. I enjoyed watching Freedom trying to kick her assistant.

Great job Daniel getting the little one out. Most likely Steve knew something wasn't right and while we would like to think Steve was trying to help, more likely Steve was trying to put her out of her misery or get her to stand. Most of the time Male donkeys get very protective when they see something "not normal". that's why Male donkeys are great livestock guardian animals in a sheep herd...they have been known to kill coyotes and cougars. When this happens in a herd, especially with Bison and Donkeys, the male often tries to kill the problem instead of help. The Herefords would also react if they see distress so best to put Freedom and baby in the barn area alone until that baby is up and around much better. It's also possible Steve was trying to also get her to stand up and get away from the "problem". I"m just glad you were there to help pull. If that baby got stuck, the head would swell and definitely kill the baby and possibly Freedom. Here's to a healthy and happy little baby Jenny. Just keep an eye on Freedom that she passes that placenta and doesn't get an infection. Sometimes with large babies like this, that afterbirth doesn't pass well. Freedom is a very protective momma...Can't fault her for that really...

Glad you were able to save the baby and momma! I remember the first time I helped deliver a calf. It was a Sunday afternoon and my husband and father-in-law were not to the barn yet. Momma needed a little help so we helped her just like you did. What a thrilling experience to see a new baby on the farm!

Oh my gosh I was so nervous through this whole video. So much happened between at first thinking Steve was hurting her to her not being able to get the baby out and thinking the baby was dead to Daniel having trouble getting the baby out to thinking Freedom didn’t look well after she had the baby and didn’t follow you up towards the barn. So relieved everyone is fine and way to go Daniel, I do believe you saved them both and the sweet baby is beautiful!

In the animal world, Steve was trying to get his mate to get up before a predator found her. Yes, she probably did need help due to a large baby. Great job, Daniel! Glad you both were there, DJ to get the birth on film. Now little Phoebe will have a forever friend.

Aside from the fact that I am so glad the timing was perfect when you came out to bottle feed and be able to help momma ... My favorite part of this video is how all the other animals smelled and followed the baby. It seemed like they all welcomed it into the family! So sweet!! 💕

This was a miracle! Seeing Freedom deliver her baby was a blessing for me. Thank God Daniel noticed her husband dragging Freedom from her neck in circles. The rest is history, but now they have a new beautiful addition! Amazing to watch the other animals were mesmerized by the new born. I enjoyed watching Freedom trying to kick her assistant.

Great job Daniel getting the little one out. Most likely Steve knew something wasn't right and while we would like to think Steve was trying to help, more likely Steve was trying to put her out of her misery or get her to stand. Most of the time Male donkeys get very protective when they see something "not normal". that's why Male donkeys are great livestock guardian animals in a sheep herd...they have been known to kill coyotes and cougars. When this happens in a herd, especially with Bison and Donkeys, the male often tries to kill the problem instead of help. The Herefords would also react if they see distress so best to put Freedom and baby in the barn area alone until that baby is up and around much better. It's also possible Steve was trying to also get her to stand up and get away from the "problem". I"m just glad you were there to help pull. If that baby got stuck, the head would swell and definitely kill the baby and possibly Freedom. Here's to a healthy and happy little baby Jenny. Just keep an eye on Freedom that she passes that placenta and doesn't get an infection. Sometimes with large babies like this, that afterbirth doesn't pass well. Freedom is a very protective momma...Can't fault her for that really...

Glad you were able to save the baby and momma! I remember the first time I helped deliver a calf. It was a Sunday afternoon and my husband and father-in-law were not to the barn yet. Momma needed a little help so we helped her just like you did. What a thrilling experience to see a new baby on the farm!
