@@formxr I love every single thing about that song. The intro, the forlorn guitar sounds, the lyrics, the chorus. It is just such a sad and beautiful song. “With the birds I share this lonely view” is just a beautiful line. Love it. And you’re right, it comes in strong (yet somehow soft at the same time).
"In the book Scar Tissue, Anthony Kiedis explains that this song is about his drug addiction. The "slide" is how far he will get back into his drug addiction, since he would stop doing drugs for a time, then get right back into it. Yeah!! Another Rhcp song❤️❤️..video is based off a foreign film that Flea (bassist) saw I believe in Germany and he wanted to re-create it for a music video
Otherside was written for and in some cases by the members of the band suffering through heroin addictions. Founding RHCP member, Hillel Slovak (guitarist) died of a heroin overdose in 1988. Anthony Kiedis (singer) and John Frusciante (guitarist) both dealt with this crippling addiction. From what I understand (I admittedly do not have first hand knowledge), heroin addiction is merciless and defies reason, making it hard to get away from it and stay away from it. The struggle may get easier over time, but once introduced to heroin, they have to stay hyper-vigilante because the pull never goes completely away. Things that seem harmless or unrelated to it can pull once stable people into a tailspin. This song was released about a decade after Hillel Slovak's death (1999). The decade prior to this songs release, Anthony and John grappled with their addictions in their own way and on their own timetable, but both seemed to make it to the...you guessed it, other side. However, other side can mean different things depending on where you are in life, and your perspective of that place, at the moment you are asked to define what the other side is.
I never realized you could understand the chorus to mean that. And then I see Mr. Video reacting to it and I am like tf thats def the most simple way to interpret the lyrics. I always considered it to mean ' to have to deal with something in the spiritual dimension' like the other side behind the curtain, and now I am like what happened Anthony?

Burn me out, leave me on the other side
I yell and tell it that it's not my friend
I tear it down, I tear it down
And then it's born again
How long, how long will I slide?
Separate my side, I don't
I don't believe it's bad
Slit my throat it's all I ever
How long, I don't, I don't believe it's bad
Slit my throat it's all I ever
This song meant everything to me and I still listen to it
In your face, take it or leave it. 100% Anthony Kiedis, lead singer. You are spot on Mr Video.
This has always been my favorite RHCP song. Flea is awesome
Omg!!!! My favorite band ever.
It was so alter when you light that cig, for such a dark RHCP song, loved that 😁🤘✌️
Absolutely ❤ how you let these songs hit you Leo...
💯 Old School 🔥🔥🔥
I love watching your reaction videos, your honesty is wonderful and refreshing :) I actually enjoy seeing your reactions to "older" music, so much of that music is the background music to my life lol. I would be interested to see you react to some newer groups/songs that I've been introduced to; such as Fire From The Gods - Right Now or Falling in Reverse - Popular Monster. Keep keeping it real :D
Yeah!! Another Rhcp song❤️❤️..video is based off a foreign film that Flea (bassist) saw I believe in Germany and he wanted to re-create it for a music video
YAAASSS!!! Thank you!!! 💖🌠💖
Mr. Video, Bobby Caldwell "What you wont do for love" = NO RESULTS! Lets do it! lol
