  • In this video, we see tons of diverse motive power, as well as the last of true Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Southern locomotives. We also hear some RS3L horn action from ATSF 667 on the Warbonnet Local.

    I’m 37 now, but when I was much much younger, I was taken on a cab ride from a local CSX maintenance depot to the yard about 3 miles down. In an old GE U36B locomotive, with an absolutely perfect K5LA. I manned the the horn over every crossing and it was an experience I’ll never forget. Your video in the cab brought those memories back. I’ve subbed!

    I've been on a few locomotives, I've been I side of a NS AC44C6M, but if you want to get some shots of the cab interior just ask the crew nicely and don't take any of the crew

    • @Southern_Plains_Railfan
      @Southern_Plains_Railfan  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I guess I could’ve. In the moment I really wasn’t sure what to do though, and I didn’t want to ask too much of the crew since they had already been very generous.

    Very nice catches! It’s awesome that you got invited up into the cab of that Warbonnet. I’ve been on a few locomotives, the most recent being an NS SD70ACC, but unfortunately the crews can get fired for that nowadays. Even if I were to try to ask the crew, they'd most likely report you for trespassing in my area which sucks.

    • @Southern_Plains_Railfan
      @Southern_Plains_Railfan  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yeah, the crew of the Warbonnet Local said they used to invite people in the cab all the time. That's pretty cool, how were you able to get inside? Dang, sound's like the RR is pretty strict about trespassers where you are.

    • @iLoVeSD70Ace35
      @iLoVeSD70Ace35 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Southern_Plains_Railfan Yeah, I live on BNSF trackage and it’s very hit or miss on how friendly the crews are. As for that cab tour, they (and a bunch of other trains on the line) were being held up for some reason and after a little while, the conductor literally just opened the nose door and waved me and a younger friend of mine over and asked if we wanted to come inside. I would share the footage but I’m afraid of getting the crew fired, although I can’t say that I’ve had a confirmed sighting of either of them since (this was a little over a year ago). The unit had a very loud but nice K5LA at the time but unfortunately that horn was switched out afterwards. I’m not going to mention the road number publicly but it was not the one featured in this video (you saw NS 1823). The ACC’s do have a cab camera mounted on the back wall behind the engineer btw.

    When I was about 10 years old I lived about five blocks from the Burlington northern Maine through Omaha Nebraska and I often spent my summer days down by the crossing near my house to watch Burlington northern and Missouri Pacific Trains roll through as their tracks were side-by-side. One day when I was about 10 or 11 years old or so a Burlington northern freight was stopped just short of the crossing and the crew allowed me to come up inside the cab of the engine I believe it was an SD 40-2. My friends never believed me. how cool of them to do that for you.
