I've been wondering what's the aims many Japanese learn English for. I feel a bit about it from your story.
Luckily I wanted to work taking photos about the Olympic spor t from the beginning.And I did.
The fields are definitely overseas. Those sports are hugely related with their countries' politics because every sports person can focus all their efforts on their own sport only when their nations are stable.
So we, world photographers, need to know the conditions of many countries at first. Automatically we might have a wider view for anything more than ordinary people.
When we can share our own stories, it might be valuable and fun 😊
One thing that I'm most impressive overseas is to meet someone who is the same age as me even their countries are in a harsh condition.

最近英語に対してのモチベーションが下がっていました。勉強しても結局何になるんだろう？結局日本にいるんだったら意味ないのではと思い、勉強をしない日が続いていました。
そしてそんな自分をダメだと思いつつも目標がないから仕方ないか〜と思って見過ごしたり🥲

私は70年間勉強してきて研究社の辞書一冊覚えて、旺文社のロイヤル英文法も勉強終えていますが未だに聞き取れないので話せません。私の時代は読み書きが出来ても話せないのは普通でしたが令和の若い人たちはどうなっているのか不思議です。勉強法が変わったのか?
貴女は長くても年齢的に私の6分の1年月しか勉強していないはずなのに。
