Said it before and I’ll say it again, Ben you gotta bring back the visor, that’s the difference, once the visor is back where going on a massive run ! 🎉
Something most high handicappers don’t realize. The slightest change in a swing changes so much. And it’s not only learning what the change does but getting it to a consistent and predictable swing. It’s fun watching your journey Ben!
I always had a strong grip and was self taught got to a plus 4 handicap. Then I decided to take a few lessons and some guy convinced me to weaken my grip and ruined my game for three years. since I went back to the stronger grip, I started playing real golf again. I can almost guarantee you will be going back to a stronger grip at some point.
I forgot who you were working with instructor wise...all I do know, as someone in a similar pool of standards as you, is you're not far off. You just need some better matchups. To my eye, it's literally as simple as some connection stuff for your backswing and then a match-up pattern for the downswing. I dont think you're there right now, and that's why there's some frustration on your end. Regardless of what anyone says, theres on a few things that a player at your level needs: Space (Make sure the body is working in a way that is not getting in the way of your impact = reduce manipulations), and STRUCTURE (Disconnection ruins structure, crappy takeaways can ruin structure, being excessively laid-off or across the line ruins structure etc). . .If you feel like you're making a manipulation to some extent, figure that crap out, Ben. It'll be as simple as using this Winter to do some stop-n-go drills on the range and keeping your mechanics in front of you. Just get yourself feeling "efficient". You got this! Not a criticism, rather a suggestion on a line of thinking for the next few months.
Friday im going to play my first round of golf, your dedication to becoming better is part of my inspiration to finally go for it. Only took me fifty two years lol. Stsy the coarse young man, and thank you.
rooting for ya ben, i like what im hearing from you, taking it in stride, enjoying the journey not just being focused on the end goal. this feels like one of those rounds where you learned a lot, keep building momentum.
As a college golfer myself i totally get making changes and finding consistent ball striking but ever since I tore my pcl in my knee i was forced to slow down my swing and im much more consistent with it. I can still poke it 300 with driver but im hitting a lot more fairways. I understand the want for distance but when you cant hit a fairway why not slow it down a tad. Just a thought. Also another thiny is I wear an xl glove and i couldnt stand the standard sized grips. So I switched to mid and got a little more control. And then recently switched to a jumbo mcc +4 and my ball striking is elite. Just a thought
You need a “grunt” counter to realize how many times you are holding your breath during your swing. I cannot tell you how much tension that creates in your body creating erratic swings. This is 2nd time I tried to help you relax. Exhale and then swing is a huge factor and game changer. In any sport breathing correctly is massive. Enjoying your journey.
@@benhaddengolf This is great science for the human body performance. If I were to hit you in the stomach while you held your breath, which is what amateurs do, the fight would be over very quickly. In singing you push the diaphragm out to get power and long lasting notes. In all sports that involve hitting you want to exhale before swinging to relax the body and gain not only more power but control as well. You are a great player but the best coaches in the world would tell you that I am giving you great wisdom. I love your journey and am just trying to help you hit your goals faster. You will get there!!
@@DeztinyDanze I think I see what you’re saying, but I also think you’re overestimating how much air I have in my diaphragm and how much tension I’m holding. The grunt isn’t letting a bunch of air out, the mic is just 4 inches from my mouth. In other words, if you played with me in person, the only way you’d hear it is if you were standing too close. I carry very little tension in my setup, and the tension I create throughout the swing is normal for high exertion athletic movements. Watch mic’d up nfl QBs after they throw a deep ball, or tennis players after a hard serve. They’re making similar sounds if the mic is in a position to pick it up. I love that you’re enjoying the content! Hope this explanation helps bridge the gap
Thank you for taking the time to respond. If you were grunting at impact I would agree with you but your grunt is always delayed which tells me your holding your breath. That is the very definition of tension in a golf swing. The bottom line is every swing is unique to each golfer just like baseball. If you are happy with the feel and result then I am happy for you. I do love watching your content and the journey. I wish nothing but great things for you Ben.
Thank you Ben for the content, I know it can be frustrating to see people comment on what you should be doing. For me this video helps me stay motivated in the changes I am making with my swing and it does require patience 😊
Going through a similar change…except maybe a bit more extreme… I was about 50 degrees strong with my grip, and made the change to a neutral grip in June. Not sure how I was able to reach scratch with that super strong grip…anyways, felt horrible for a month or so, no idea where the clubface was up top, and transition felt like the club was gonna come out of my hands. But after a few months of grinding, I’m up to a +1.2. Stick with it man, and enjoy the results.
The grip change is one that I was hoping you'd make a year ago. But now you've taken the plunge, you will have to make way less compensations in your golf swing. Enjoy the control! BTW _Scottie Scheffler still uses a training grip. He understands the benefits!
Draw a line on his rear end at address then freeze at impact and you’ll see his rear end coming off that line and towards the ball ( early extension ) he can hit way left or way right with that going on. His path and club face will gain more control if he can stay in spine angle longer through impact and not have his lower body go towards the ball but instead the left hip will work back keeping more spine angle and that will give him more room on the downswing and allow him to cover the ball better instead of playing from under neath
Just by following your journey and still trying to coach for free haha. And get you to come play in oregon with me. LOL My observations is and I could be wrong. Along with the grip change. It’s looks like you are a little more rotational. With your great speed it looks like you have laidback on the vertical force and subbing it for rotational torque. Your Q school swing you would get taller before impact. Now I notice your head level stays dang near the same thru impact if not going down a little. Either way you can get it down with whatever you work on. All about them match ups brotha I myself am thinking about starting a revamp thru the fall and winter to get ready for next season. Keep believing it’s going to happen you are going to make it.
I’ve tried the switch from strong to weaker grip and I just can’t do it. Screws my contact, timing and everything up. My main problem is lower body rotation. And I always use my Always Press ball marker. Good luck with the switch and the tournaments. I look forward to seeing it start turning the corner.
I tried going from a pretty strong grip to weak, gave it a year and while I can defintely work the ball both ways better I just found myself not being able to get center club face contact consistently...almost like my body was telling me my wrist didn't want to function that way
Hey Ben, don't think anyone has mentioned it yet - your lie angle looks upright in the putts you hit this video, maybe something you should pay attention to? I play a DF3 with a stock shaft and know that when I don't sit the putter flat, I do tend to add side spin to my putt
Should have taken your time on that putt for birdy on that short par 4. Way to keep positive bro. I dont think you want to mail that prov1x to the Philippines 😂
you wanna shallow out? get your weight to the back foot on the backswing so it isn't stacked over the front. not sure a weaker grip is gonna solve that issue. what do I know though? 😂 im just some random in your TH-cam comments. best of luck to you brother!
shoot, if your gonna sign it and send it i wont complain. Once you win a masters or other major ill send it back and trade you for another one. Just as a reminder of this moment on how far you've come and where you will be. All as long as you keep pressing *wink*.
