I absolutely love it. You can hook it up to power if you have it but it will still run off solar until the sun goes down. I have not hooked it up to the power yet though.
I have a shed with collectibles with it and am really worried about them overheating. No power there, so I think this may be a so,union. Glad I ran into this.
I'm glad you found my video as well, and hope this works out for you. Not sure where you live, but in the winder I disconnect the fan, and plug the shroud with insulation in a plastic bag to keep the heat in vs letting it escape through the big opening.
Good morning Larry, hope all is well. No cover for the rain, hoping being under the overhang will help, but it isn't like we won't be watering indoors. Floor is basically one big drainage bed. Good idea on keeping the cold air out. I think that would be quite an easy fix to make a plug to fit in the back during winter months. Great suggestion.
I really enjoy your videos, love that you get right to the point, hit the “high points” so to speak. Tbh, I’m shocked you don’t have more views. My question have you ever used any of the smaller solar powered storage devices. I’m thinking about getting one, then buying a regular exhaust fan with a thermostat so it will only run when temp goes above a certain degree. Because I also want to plug in a humidistat controller attached to a mist system or fog machine. Would love to hear any thoughts or suggestions you have on this thought process. For the last 4-5 years I said I wanted to start a greenhouse & ultimately a backyard nursery (with hopes of making it a full time business) but I kept putting it off for one reason or the other. My Dad(73) passed away 2 weeks ago, exactly a year after my mom (72) passed. While in the hospital he asked me had I started my greenhouses yet, so that’s what I’m gonna do. Any tips you may have I’d love to hear them. Sorry for the long comment, but thank you for your videos. I’ll do my best to share them with as many ppl as I can.
Thank you so much for the feedback, really enjoy when folks take the time. Have I any experience with solar powered storage devices? interesting timing of the question. "Santa" brought the family a solar generator for Christmas and I just got around to digging it out of the boxes last weekend. Now, I (oops, Santa) went a bit overboard as my intent was to be able to run the fridges, freezer, and some fans (or heater) in the event of a power outage at the house. So we ended up with a Bluetti AC200 (big, bulky, heavy, and just over 2000 watts of storage). They are very easy to use (video be out in a couple weeks of my first impressions of that one). End of the day it comes down to matt. This fan in this video is a 30w fan, 100w solar panel. I think if you went with something in the 500w range you should get a good 12 hours of fan off a full charge, and if you can get 60w+ of charge out of the panel during the day it could run the fan and keep the unit fully charged. I did learn that charging really falls off when panel is in shade or it is cloudy. I did learn that the fan was not enough given I don't live where the greenhouse is, I can't keep the windows open except on weekends, so the shade cloth I installed made a big difference. I tried starting in February this spring, for me, here, that is too early without artificial lighting. Plants need X hours of sunlight per day to do well, so next year I will not start my seeds until late march. My peppers and tomatoes are doing extremely well in the summer heat as long as I keep them watered. Just started some herbs to see how those work out. Best of luck with your greenhouse and business plans, my hope is to have our little hobby farm break even or make a little profit here in the near future. Still years away from good yield from the fruit trees we planted, and I have a lot to learn about running a mini orchard before then. For us, keeps us outdoors, keeps us active, keeps us happy... but not wealthy :)
It is tough to make a good choice without some video to reference. Amazon can be misleading on the size or capacity of various solar fans... you think that is a great price, but read the fine print and see they are only 6" x 6". I know this one is expensive, but it takes a lot to really draw out the heat from a big space like a greenhouse. Glad you found the video helpful, very much appreciate you taking the time to leave the comment!!!
@@TryNewThings and they do everything in millimeters and probably invent their own measurement system soon because people are getting smart What we used to call the communist system versus the American system!
I was pleasantly surprised. Cost a bit of $$$ but end of the day I believe I will think it was worth it. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment, very much appreciated.
It is still performing great for us. I do disconnect it in the winter when it is not needed, and on occasion I do have to go up there and clean out some bugs (bees and hornets etc) that get sucked in and stuck to the protective grill. Does serve to keep them out of the greenhouse though, so that is a win. This time of year it is running pretty much non-stop during the day, and is doing a great job and expelling the hottest air from the apex of the greenhouse, causing 'cooler' air to be drawn in from the other other end from outside. Never gets cooler than the outdoor temp obviously, but keeps it from cooking me and everything else that happens to be on the inside. I hope this answered your question, if not just hit me back up and I'll try harder. Thanks for checking out the video, much appreciated.
Would it be necessary to install a backup battery for longer run times? That is one nice looking fan. Like the completed package on the greenhouse. Job well done, now you need to get started on winter garden.😊
LOL - I know, I know, my wife has already said "great job on the greenhouse, now hurry up and install some planting tables..." Taking a 2 week break from the greenhouse build to try and finish my little zipline project before my daughter is off on fall break, then I'll get to the planting surfaces. Battery backup would be good. I know in the video i say there is no power at the greenhouse - and that is true - but I'm just a 30' extension cord away from the barn, so if need be, I could plug in the AC backup which is supposed to only kick in when solar power is too low to run the fan.
The exhaust fan kicks butt.... but right now (First of March) I have plugged it up with piece of insulation (and unplugged the panel) to keep the heat in... I'm assuming I'll be plugging it back in and letting it suck the heat out again around first of April.
Paul thanks for the question. Other than having to clean out some bugs that get drawn in once in a while it works great. I did disconnect for the winter. I stuffed a plastic bag with insulation and stuff that into the shroud for the winter, and so I don’t lose my heat in the spring when I start my seeds. When it warms up, I just pull out the bag and plug it back into the solar panel.
Now that you’ve used it for a few months, what is your current review on it? Still a good piece of equipment? Or would you suggest trying something else?
Thanks for the question. It is still kicking butt. They did not sponsor the video. I would highly recommend it just the same. Or something of similar stats. I have been blessed with a number of folks using my included link to Amazon only to end up buying a much smaller or less powerful fan. Our greenhouse is about 190 sf with 8’ walls, and it is of sufficient capacity that it can run occasionally instead of constantly to keep the heat out. Hope this helps. Regardless what you end up going with, if you go through Amazon feel free to start your search with my link… the 3% I get from them helps offset cost of future projects. Cheers!!!
Working great! I have disconnected it from the solar panel for the winter though at the moment as I stuff a piece of insulation in the circular surround until the temp starts to pick up in April. Just filmed a '1st year review' video for the greenhouse, will likely be posted in a few weeks, but I call out that fan as one of the things I got most right in my build.
I'm still in the planning phase, the fan seems very powerful, probably more than I need. I saved to a wishlist, I'll try and use your link when I purchase (if I do). No promises! Lol thanks for the reply.
@@IsaacSchultz why thank you sir, feel free to use the link to get started with any Amazon purchase, oddly enough it does not matter what you end up purchasing, as long as you got to Amazon via the link, they will still kick back 3% to myself and the channel. It certainly is, there are less expensive ones for sure, however watch out for capacity when looking at your options. This one will push a ton of air, I am also impressed with the solar panel etc.
@@jeffbrantley5222 this may be an option. Note you have to ask for the thermostat to be included (looks like it is free). I can't personally vouch for this one as I have not tried it, however it looks like it may be capable of providing similar flow (1750 cfm for the one I bought) at a lower price. amzn.to/40BTkdA

Is there some type of cover to keep the rain out as well as the cold air when not in use? Impressive set up...

One more thing. From December to March I unplugged it from the panel and put in a circle of 4” foam to keep the heat in for winter….
Can you set the temp on the thermostat
Hello BSC. On this particular unit it auto-starts when the temperature hits 77 degrees. Unfortunately there is no adjustment to that value.
Just ordered it should have a month ago price went up to 409
