    I was lucky enough to fly from Auckland to London return on BOAC/BA Super VC-10's in 1974. Our tickets were BA but the VC-10's were still in BOAC livery. My grandparents stayed in Isleworth under the approach to Heathrow & got to see a VC-10 Standard, along with 707's & a 747 freshly painted in the Negus scheme. Also the prototype A300 in the Airbus house colours scheme.

    I have very fond memories of traveling several times ORD/LHR return in First Class on BOAC VC-10. Outstanding inflight service and so quiet since the four engines were tail mounted (two on each side). Btw, BOAC also carried Her Majesty on her honeymoon to South Africa. She boarded her outbound flight with the title of Princess Elizabeth and due to her Fathers death, upon return, stepped off her BOAC flight as Queen Elizabeth. My favourite livery of British Air is the BOAC

      It's their 100th year so they are celebrating it throughout the year and they trace their 'birth date' back to August. August being before October would make BA the older out of the 2

It was yourself making the claims on which airline held the "oldest airline in the world" title ;)

    • @MattCruiser
      @MattCruiser 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@C2K777 What I'm trying to say is that BA is simply doing this for a publicity stunt, as BA really isn't 100 years old. Even excluding the "Operating under original name" part. BA claims to be 100 years old because AT&T had its first flight in August of 1919... However BA is not just a renamed AT&T, AT&T went defunct a few years later and was then purchased by another airline. This airline then had multiple mergers before becoming BA. Hence I find it a hard to believe claim by BA that they're 100 years old, as really, they're just not.

Today they no longer represent anything approaching the world beating organisation they were a few short years ago. The most profitable airline in Europe has achieved their dividends and bonuses through charging for a premium service, trading on a brand that took decades to build whilst delivering a low cost carrier experience in densified, dirty and badly maintained cabins.

    How far the mighty have fallen In August 2019 as a direct result of cost cutting for the 7th time in 2 years tens of thousands of customers were let down / stranded from the cancellation of their flights. On board BA no longer bother to clean their longhaul fleet adequately nor load enough catering for the pax onboard. They deliver a sub low cost experience for the price of a premium carrier. Unless there is a reversal of the last 5years of cuts and service degradation BA are Best Avoided if you want comfort, service, catering, reliability, quality or value.

      the 747 has the advantage she is still good heavy lift freighter.
      Converting them to 747-800M(Side loading door) Freighter is the only option.

      @@obelic71 Totally right, nothing can hold a candle to the 748 for carrying freight however in this case Sammy suggested BA 'upgrade' to it which would, imho, be anything but an upgrade in comparison to the 350-1000 as they are a passenger carrier not a freighter airline.

      @@C2K777 I was not sure if BA had freighters.
      KLM, Lufthansa for example have 747 freighters.
      As a passenger plane the 747 is at the end of the line. Only the few newest 747-800P version will fly passengers for sure the next 5 years. The new 777x/787 and A350 will replace the entire 747-400P/777-100-200 and A340/A380 passenger aircraft.

    A very misleading video. To clebrate 100 years of existence an airline has to have been operating under the same name for 100 years as is the case with QANTAS and KLM. British Airways as it now exists only came into being in 1974. And they are not the flag carrier of the UK as they only operate international flights out of London. The UK consists of far more than that dump......
