I used Northern lights and fired at cone 5. The results were beautiful but I got some serious pitting. Have any suggestions on solving that problem? Thank you in advance.
This is not unusual for firing Jungle Gems when you fire them hotter. You can try to apply them thinner or maybe add a hold to the kiln, but it could just be a reaction with the heat/clay body.
Jungle Gems™ are Food Safe (regulatory term) but Mayco does not recommend crystal glazes used on areas where food comes into contact. Due to the nature of the glaze there are crevices and crazing that may trap bacteria. Since earthenware bisque is not dishwasher safe it is difficult to properly sanitize. Jungle Gems® were developed for a cone 05/06 firing. However, we have seen very pleasant results at cone 6. Each individual jar with give the cone 6 firing results. The crystal glazes will move more and change colors. Enjoy,
These glazes are designed for cone 06 oxidation to work how they are advertised. They can be pushed outside of this range in any way you like, but if you want what the tiles on our website showcase cone 06 oxidation is how you achieve those results.
Hi I have a jungle gems super spill and I don’t know how it is looking after firing and I try to get the chart of jungle gems to see it colour and result, but I can not see anywhere the picture of it. Do you have the result picture after firing the super spill CG712 ?
@@marciasilviajohnson6461 that color must have been discontinued a VERY long time ago. Sorry we do not have samples on our website. Sounds like a test tile is in order!
Jungle Gems can be fired to cone 6. We always suggest testing prior to use. Our Jungle Gems are also not labeled dinnerware safe, but should be dinnerware safe as long as your clay body is vitrified. Clear glaze does not need to be applied.

Is this waterproof like can I use it on a soap dish ?
Jungle Gems are waterpoof once fired but it is more about the clay you are using.
Do these glazes need an special kind of firing or will a regular gas firing achieve the results?
