  • A review of sorts about my time and love for the little Panasonic Lumix LX3. It was a groundbreaking little compact when it came out in 2008, and i think its still a very valid option in 2024. I will share my experience from owning this hidden gem when it first came out, but also how it holds up in this day and age. As always sprinkled with some of the images i have taken with it as well. Enjoy!

I keep hunting them and I jave 3 now. Use them more then my Fuji X100T or Sony A7R III. LX3 in bw mode and iso800 all the way. Greetings from Malmö.

Hej! Yeh i can relate to the feeling of wanting to stack up and save for the future as well :D Im so happy to have 2 now at this point, but will surely also add a LX5 in the near future if i can find one in decent condition. For the moment i have found myself using the LX3 more than all my other cameras hehe....so yeh i can really relate there as well.
      Greetings back from Stockholm :)

I bought the LX3 new and loved it. Still have it and it's working well. Decided to upgrade and considered the LX5 but read that it wasn't much better. Bought a used LX7 with an eye level finder at a good price. Much better that the LX3 and probably the LX5 too. Still my main camera. Good 1080p video. Go for the LX7. A bit more money but worth it IMO. Get a 3 blade auto lens cap. You won't regret it after the annoying cap on a string.

Very nice video! Trevlig film =)
I bought my leica d'lux 4 on a second hand store 300kr and this was 4 years ago.
It was in really good shape.
I later bought a brand new just in case that my first one dies.
Its one of the best camera i ever used.

I bought a new LX5 back in 2011 and must admit to it being one of my favourite cameras. I bought a couple of genuine Panasonic accessories, including the EVF and the tube extension, allowing me to use filters. The lens on the LX5 has slightly more reach, and I find the range 24-90 covers most of my photographic needs. I never go above 400 iso and predominately shoot jpeg as I now prefer to be out shooting rather than sitting processing RAW files. When i have my days out on my motorcycle, this is the camera I take with me.

The LX5 was a great little camera, and i also recall it being slightly better at creating separation when you wanted to take something more akin to a portrait with it which made it even more versatile than the LX3 :) I will most likely add the LX5 in the future if i can find one in decent condition and for the right price . Also the LX7 as i never got to try it out, but rather got the Fuji X-T1 and left the LX series after the LX5.
I hear you, i have some awesome cameras both analog and digital, but i tend to grab what is the lightest and easiest 80% of the time nowadays, and lately since i got them back again, the LX3 is in my bag a lot :) So handy and fun to use.
      Thank you. Regards Martin.

Very beautiful photos, many of which hadn't been possible with a heavy camera at home. Today I saw a LX7 in a shop but the photos I saw online don't catch my attention, as if they had not much soul, as with the LX3. Maybe the LX7 lens is digital corrected, what usually gives a subtle "digital image" look rather than photography, at least to me.

Hey ! Thanks a lot for your kind comment first of all :)
I never tried the Lx7 actually, but you might very well be on to something there. Thats the case with many cameras and lenses i feel that are newer. The quest for companies back the was after all to produce a lens and camera combo that felt as modern as possible and with sharp and truth to life tones etc.
Unfortunately for us liking character and a film look does not hehe. So the newer the lens and camera that is the case it seems.
Im on the hunt for another LX5 now actually as i feel at least that camera met my demends when it comes to character etc. But still the Lx3 is even more special :)
      /regards Martin.

I absolutely loved my LX3, we had a fantastic time. I still have it but not used it for a while. I kept all my cameras even if they break (Ricoh GR)
Now on a Journey with The Q, I agree they are both amazing.
Fuji X10 is another gem to try.

The Q is one of my favorite cameras ever, especially the Q-P i owned last. Wish i had kept that a lot of times. The Fuji X10 was a fun camera that packed a punch as well :)

I had both the LX3 and the LX5, but preferred the 3. In the end I got rid of both of them because here in Japan the menus are locked in Japanese and the language can’t be changed. Sony does the same thing so Sony and Panasonic are both off the table for me.

Ow thats a shame! :) and that you cannot change that as well. Nice to hear you preferred the 3 in the end, i tend to have more fond memories about it too. Thank you.
